Overview

Bookamat is studio-management software for boutique studios and independent teachers. It is best suited to operators who want class scheduling, member sales and client self-service in one system, particularly when they run more than one venue. Its active-client pricing can suit a small roster, but payment processing options depend on the country.

Founded in 2016 and based in Melbourne, Bookamat focuses on the operational needs of yoga, Pilates, barre, dance, fitness and similar studios. Clients can book, pay and reschedule in a mobile browser; the service can also be installed as a Progressive Web App on a phone or desktop home screen.

Key features

Scheduling and attendance

Online and desk bookings, calendar scheduling, class capacity and booking policies cover the core work of managing a timetable. Waitlists, recurring classes, room and instructor scheduling, attendance tracking and QR check-in add useful controls for studios handling regular classes. Automated reminders can help keep clients informed, though SMS may carry a separate usage charge.

Payments and memberships

Bookamat combines recurring memberships, class packs, credits, coupons, private sessions and gift cards with billing and invoicing. Online payment support is through Stripe in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada; Square in Australia; and Paystack in South Africa. Studios elsewhere should confirm that a suitable payment route is available before committing.

Integrations and multiple venues

Google Calendar and Mailchimp sync, plus links for online and hybrid classes through Zoom and Google Meet, connect Bookamat to common studio workflows. Unlimited venues and business-wide reporting are included across the plans described, making it a stronger fit for multi-site operators than a system whose subscription is tied to one location.

Security and support

Bookamat describes safeguards including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls, tenant data separation, backups, audit logs and secure development practices. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal information. Customers receive email support from the people who build the product, with priority support on Team and Growth.

Pricing

Bookamat is freemium and offers a 14-day trial. Its pricing counts clients with at least one booking during the subscription month, rather than every person on a studio's contact list; inactive clients do not count. This can make the entry plans workable for studios with fluctuating attendance, but active-client growth affects the bill.

Free access: 0.00 USD per free after the trial for studios with 10 or fewer active clients. It includes core studio-management features, but usage-based SMS may cost separately. The cap makes it an option for a very small studio, not a durable free tier for a growing client base.
Solo: 3.50 USD per month, billed USD $3.5 /active client after your first 10, up to $49/month. It supports up to 2 staff members and includes core features, all integrations and unlimited locations. The cap controls cost as the roster grows, but the two-person seat limit rules it out for larger teams.
Team: 68.60 USD per month, billed USD $68.60 /month at 35 active clients, from $59. It allows up to 5 staff members and includes core features, all integrations, unlimited locations, pay-as-you-grow pricing and priority support. It fits a modest staff team that needs a defined monthly starting point.
Growth: 113.75 USD per month, billed USD $113.75 /month at 70 active clients, from $99. It adds unlimited staff members to the shared core features, integrations, unlimited locations, pay-as-you-grow pricing and priority support. It is the clearer fit for a larger team, though the listed price corresponds to 70 active clients.

Bookamat offers migration help that can include importing a client list, with timing depending on the data and studio setup.

Platforms

Bookamat supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows and the web. Its browser-based member access and optional home-screen installation mean clients need not rely on a conventional app installation to manage bookings.

Who it's for

Bookamat makes the most sense for independent teachers and boutique studios that need scheduling, attendance, memberships and payments together, especially businesses with multiple venues. The Solo plan's two-staff limit suits small operations; Team and Growth are more appropriate when staff numbers increase. It is less suitable for studios that cannot use one of its supported payment processors in their country or want a predictable bill unaffected by active-client counts.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited venues and cross-business reporting support multi-location operations without a location cap on the plans described.
Pro: Scheduling, sales, billing and client self-service sit together, reducing the need to manage these studio tasks across separate systems.
Pro: The active-client billing rule excludes inactive clients, which can be helpful for studios with a larger but intermittently attending customer list.
Con: Payment processing support is geographically limited to the stated Stripe, Square and Paystack countries, so some studios may not have a supported option.
Con: SMS can cost extra, and Solo is capped at two staff; studios should account for both before treating its low entry price as their long-term cost.

Alternatives

Class Manager is worth considering for operators seeking a free plan with no monthly subscription; it charges a flat service fee for online payments, with tailored pricing for high volumes.

PushPress offers a free plan with unlimited leads, admins, members and staff, alongside stated card and ACH fees; its Pro plan is 159.00 USD per month. It may suit studios prioritising those unlimited free-plan counts over Bookamat's active-client pricing structure.

Stepsi has annual plans capped at 100 or 250 active members, making it an alternative for a studio whose needs fit those membership limits.

WellnessLiving offers a Starter plan at 62.00 USD per month billed annually, with one staff member and classes and appointments booking; it is an option for a studio that wants those booking types in a paid plan.

Bookwhen has a free web plan capped at 50 bookings per month, one team member and one booking page, which may fit a small operation with low booking volume.

CourseDeck has a free Starter plan capped at 25 active students, one location and one admin, with basic scheduling and manual attendance; it is an alternative for a small, single-location setup.

Omnify is another freemium option to consider.

ClubReady is a paid alternative available on web, iOS and Android.

Verdict

Bookamat is a strong fit for boutique studios and independent teachers that want scheduling, memberships, payments and member self-service alongside support for unlimited venues. Its main advantage is the breadth of studio operations in one service; its main reason to look elsewhere is the combination of country-limited payment options and pricing that changes with active clients. Check both against your studio before choosing a plan.
