Overview

CloseZero is AI accounting software built for scaling startups that need one ledger across entities and currencies. It is best suited to founders who want bookkeeping, current financial reporting, and controlled investor access together. Its appeal is tempered by uneven regional coverage and the lack of a one-click export for the full ledger.

Key features

CloseZero categorizes transactions, matches them with supporting documents, and reconciles them against bank statement lines for review. Receipt and supplier-invoice capture extracts vendor, amount, date, and tax details, then attaches the source file to the entry. Keeping evidence with the transaction can help teams review work and answer later questions, but AI-prepared entries still need a person to check them.

The shared ledger spans entities and currencies. P&L, balance sheet, cash, burn, and runway reports update as entries arrive, supporting the stated aim of closing the books by month-end. Stripe connects using a restricted key; Brex, Wise, Revolut, and HSBC are also shown, and bank statements can be imported as CSV or PDF. The mix gives teams several ways to bring financial activity into the ledger, though it does not remove the need for accounting review.

Investor rooms provide read-only access that can be limited to particular entities and periods, or shared as a point-in-time PDF pack; access can be revoked. Accountants work in the same ledger, and auditors can receive read-only seats. That makes CloseZero a shared working environment rather than a substitute for professional accounting or audit work.

Regional support varies. CloseZero describes US GAAP consolidation, Hong Kong audit support, and Swiss VAT and QR-bill invoicing. Germany and China capabilities are labeled beta. German DATEV export and statutory report layouts remain on the roadmap; for China, local CAS books, domestic archiving, and Golden Tax fapiao workflows remain with the customer's accounting process. Businesses that depend on those local outputs should confirm the workflow before choosing it.

Documents can be downloaded and a read API is available, but a one-click export of the entire ledger is still to be built. The privacy policy says data is used to provide the service, is not sold or used for advertising, and access is role-limited to the user and invited people. The policy is marked as a draft to be finalized with counsel before launch, which may matter to teams evaluating governance commitments.

Pricing

CloseZero has a free plan with no time limit and no card requirement, for companies below $10,000 MRR or $100,000 raised. Accountants, auditors, and investors do not pay on any plan. There is no free trial because the product offers a free plan.

Free — 0.00 USD per free. Includes AI bookkeeping, Stripe and bank statements, invoicing, multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, live financial reports, and an investor room with PDF packs. The revenue or fundraising threshold makes it a practical starting point for smaller startups, but it does not include Growth's unlimited investor rooms, auditor access, scaled intercompany handling, or multi-GAAP mapping.
Growth — custom pricing. The rate is not set yet; CloseZero says pricing will be flat per entity, per month, and disclosed before anything is owed. It adds everything in Free plus unlimited investor rooms, auditor access, intercompany handling at scale, multi-GAAP mapping, and verified metrics. Some features are not yet built, so teams should confirm which capabilities are ready for their needs.
Scale — custom pricing. Pricing is based on entities, volume, and desired support. It adds everything in Growth, plus an audit firm workspace, REST API and OAuth apps, ERP-grade exports, SOC 2-backed enterprise sharing, and priority support. Some features are not yet live, so this tier is for teams prepared to discuss requirements and timing directly rather than buy a fully specified package off a price list.

The pricing page says documents are downloadable and a read API is available, but the full-ledger one-click export is not yet built. Scale lists priority support; support inquiries can be sent to support@closezero.com.

Platforms

CloseZero is available on the web and through an API. Those options suit teams working in a browser or connecting through software, rather than users looking for a dedicated mobile app.

Who it's for

CloseZero is a fit for scaling startups managing several entities or currencies, especially those that want current runway and performance reporting alongside bookkeeping and investor sharing. The free tier is a straightforward entry point for companies under its MRR or fundraising threshold. It is a weaker fit for businesses that require a complete ledger export, German DATEV or statutory report layouts today, or local Chinese accounting and tax workflows within the product.

Pros and cons

Pros: One ledger connects multi-entity bookkeeping, source documents, and consolidated reports, reducing the separation between transaction work and management visibility.
Pros: Scoped, revocable investor access and point-in-time PDF packs let founders share selected financial information without giving investors editing rights.
Pros: The free plan has no time limit or card requirement below its stated threshold, and invited accountants, auditors, and investors do not add paid seats.
Cons: Users must review AI categorization, matching, and reconciliation, so the automation does not eliminate oversight.
Cons: Full-ledger one-click export is not yet available, limiting portability for teams that need a complete self-service copy.
Cons: Regional support has important gaps, including roadmap items in Germany and customer-managed accounting workflows in China; beta capabilities may not suit compliance-critical operations.
Cons: Growth and Scale capabilities include features not yet built or live, so buyers should confirm readiness before relying on them.
