Overview

Bring an existing HTML design into Blocks Edit, then set editable areas using a visual theme editor or HTML classes and attributes. That gives designers a way to retain control of a layout while letting content teams make changes within it. The trade-off is that the workflow starts with HTML: it is useful for maintaining prepared designs, not a substitute for an unrestricted design canvas.

Blocks Edit supports websites, blogs, landing pages, marketing emails, digital forms and other content. It works with HTML, CSS and JavaScript platforms, can publish to a chosen host or CDN, and can export email content to service providers. It does not send customer emails or hold audience lists, so delivery and audience management need to happen elsewhere.

Key features

Editing and preview

Inline editing and drag-and-drop components let editors change prepared designs without making every update a code task. Live preview and editing for mobile and dark mode help teams address those views before publishing. This balance is most useful when editors need room to work but developers still want to define the available structure.

Review and quality checks

Commenting, role-based permissions and revision history support a review cycle with clearer ownership and a record of changes. A shared content library and campaign checklists add useful coordination for repeat work. Checklist-based review, broken or missing link flags and automated image formatting can catch common content issues; they do not replace a separate email-sending system.

Connections and security

Direct connections include AWS, GCP Storage, Salesforce, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, Iterable, Okta and OneLogin. Standard sFTP and SAML support broaden its fit for established workflows, while custom integration requests require a yearly plan with at least five team members. Blocks Edit says remote server access uses VPN and two-factor authentication and is limited to workers who need access for their work. Uploaded files are backed up daily and data sent over public networks is encrypted. Its stated PII scope is limited to team account credentials.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes solo editing, unlimited editing and 5 GB storage. It is a reasonable starting point for an individual, but solo editing makes it a poor fit for a team that needs shared review. Blocks Edit also offers a 30-day trial.

Collaborate costs 20.00 USD per year and includes 250 GB storage. The 5 users plan costs 99.00 USD per year and provides five users. The Yearly plan is shown at 20.00 USD per year, billed at $20/user with five users shown at $99 per month after a crossed-out $125; integrations are priced separately. Those terms are presented differently across the plan names, so teams should confirm the billing total and period before choosing. Additional storage costs 25.00 USD per month for each additional 250 GB increment.

Integrations cost 10.00 USD per month, billed $10/user per month each, for each integration covering asset hosts, email providers and SSO. That can make connection costs significant for larger teams or several integrations. Custom pricing is the route for needs beyond the published plans, including custom integration requests, which require a yearly plan with at least five team members.

Platforms

Blocks Edit is web-based. Its compatibility with HTML, CSS and JavaScript platforms and publishing to a chosen host or CDN make it flexible across web stacks, though teams should not mistake that flexibility for native email delivery.

Who it's for

Freelancers and agencies can use it to keep client HTML designs editable while coordinating review. Enterprise teams may value permissions, revision history, SAML and storage options, while marketers, managers, designers, developers, copywriters and content editors each have a role in its workflow. It is less suitable for a solo user seeking a standalone email sender or for teams that need to build designs without an existing HTML basis.

Pros and cons

Pros: Editors can work within imported HTML while designers control editable areas, a useful division for teams protecting layout consistency.
Pros: Comments, permissions, history, shared content and checklists support collaborative review rather than isolated edits.
Pros: Publishing and export options plus multiple direct connections suit teams with an existing web host or email service provider.
Cons: It does not send email or manage audience lists, so email campaigns require separate delivery and contact tools.
Cons: The free plan is solo-only, limiting its value as a no-cost team collaboration option.
Cons: Integration pricing is per user per month for each integration, adding cost on top of team plans.

Alternatives

For broad category comparisons, browse Email Template Software and Email Design Software.

Canary is a free email app with mobile, desktop, web and browser-extension platforms, including inbox features such as unified inbox, read receipts and templates; choose it when inbox management matters more than editing HTML designs.
MJML is an open-source option with a free-to-use REST API; it may suit teams looking for an open-source email-development tool rather than Blocks Edit's review workflow.
Dragble has a free plan with 3 projects, 10 GB storage, 10 core content blocks and branding, plus a $99.00 USD per month Starter plan after trial; its project and storage allowances may suit teams comparing a different freemium builder.
Foundation for Emails is a free web option for readers considering another email design tool.
MailEditor has a $9.00 USD per month Starter plan billed yearly, with stated member, export, test email, template and storage allowances; compare it if those quotas better fit the workflow.
Mosaico is a free, open-source email template builder under the GPL license, an alternative for those prioritizing open-source software.
Postcards offers a free plan with 10 template projects, 5 monthly exports, 10 daily test emails and unlimited teammates; that may fit a team focused on template export quotas.
Serious Email Studio has a free plan for 1 user, 3 projects, 10 templates and responsive previews, for readers weighing a smaller solo allowance.

Verdict

Choose Blocks Edit if your team already works with HTML and wants controlled visual editing, structured review and publishing or export connections in one web workflow. Its clearest reason to choose it is the combination of configurable layouts and collaboration tools. Look elsewhere if you need email delivery and audience management included, or if your team needs to start from a blank canvas rather than an imported design.
