Overview

Bird Verify confirms access to a phone number or email address by sending a code for the recipient to enter. It is best suited to product teams adding verification through an API and needing a choice of delivery channels. The no-fee verification plan is useful, but channel messages still cost extra.

Key features

SMS and email cover common verification flows; WhatsApp and voice offer additional routes, alongside channel orchestration. Voice OTP is rolling out, so teams that need an established voice-verification route should not rely on it as their primary option. Eligible fallback can send another code on a different channel without restarting the session or changing its expiry, helping when the first route fails.

Sessions allow a bounded number of code checks, five by default. Per-recipient send caps and a resend cooldown add practical limits on repeated attempts. Bird says codes are generated from a cryptographic random source, stored as HMAC-SHA256 hashes, and compared in constant time. These controls suit teams securing account access, but delivery still depends on correct channel setup: SMS numbers must use international format, and requests cannot select a channel unavailable in the country configuration. WhatsApp requires a Bird-managed business number and authentication template, and may be unavailable in some countries.

Developers can build with Node.js, Python, Go, PHP, cURL, CLI, and MCP; the plan also names TypeScript among its SDK languages. Webhooks support event notifications. Workspaces, API access controls, team roles, and audit logs give teams ways to manage access and trace changes. Integrations span CRM, AI, customer support, data warehouse, and developer-tool categories. Bird directs customers to email support and account-specific options in their workspace.

Pricing

Verify: 0.00 USD per free. There is no separate verification fee; channel messages are billed separately. That makes it a straightforward starting point for teams whose costs are driven by message volume, but it is not a promise of cost-free delivery. No paid tier is described, so this plan is the relevant option for teams evaluating the service.

Platforms

Bird Verify is available through an API and on the web. Its developer languages and tools make it aimed at implementation in a product or service rather than a standalone mobile messaging app. Scheduled messages, 10DLC support, webhooks, event webhooks, dedicated IP, inbound and outbound calling, phone number support, SIP, and call recording are supported; TOTP is not.

Who it's for

Choose Bird Verify if your team needs to confirm phone or email control in its own service, particularly when fallback across channels and workspace-level access controls matter. It is a weaker fit if you require TOTP, dependable voice OTP today, or a delivery channel that cannot be enabled in the recipient's country.

Pros and cons

Pros: No separate verification fee keeps the verification component free; fallback can preserve a session and its expiry; bounded attempts and hashed-code handling support security-conscious flows.
Cons: Message charges remain; country settings constrain channel choice; WhatsApp has setup and availability requirements; voice OTP is still rolling out.

Alternatives

Textedly is a better fit for teams seeking a mobile and web messaging service with a free plan and trial: its Basic plan is 29.00 USD per month for 500 messages monthly, or 600 messages per month with annual billing. For businesses comparing messaging products, see Business Text Messaging Software, SMS Gateway Software, and Transactional SMS Software.

Kenect and Pulse SMS are paid alternatives available on web, iOS, and Android. Text Request offers a free trial and an Enterprise plan at 575.00 USD per month, including 20,000 texts, 10 dashboards, and additional texts at $0.032 each. MessageDesk is another option for teams comparing messaging products; its Team yearly plan is 29.00 USD per year, billed per user per month under an annual contract with a three-user minimum. Remelo is a web-based freemium alternative. Sinch Engage has paid plans for teams comparing SMS volumes and workflow limits, with plan prices not published. Apptoto is a paid option with a free trial and a plan starting at 30.00 USD per month.

Verdict

Bird Verify is a strong choice for developers who need multi-channel phone or email verification, session controls, and workspace administration without a separate verification fee. Choose it when channel fallback matters and you can budget for message charges; look elsewhere if TOTP or established voice OTP is essential.
