Overview

BigRoad ELD combines driver logkeeping with fleet tools for tracking, communication and hours-of-service alerts. It is a strong fit for North American owner-operators and fleets that want those functions in one system, but less compelling for drivers seeking an app that works without required vehicle hardware.

DashLink connects to a vehicle’s diagnostic port and sends engine data to the mobile app over Bluetooth for ELD logging. BigRoad says its ELD is registered on the FMCSA list and third-party certified by FPInnovations for Canadian ELD use. Offline logging is supported, which helps when connectivity drops, though regular use still calls for a suitable mobile data plan.

Drivers can edit log events within regulatory limits, then must recertify the day. Roadside inspection mode lets them show logs or send them to safety officials. The web app adds fleet tracking, communications and violation notifications for managers, making BigRoad more useful to a fleet than a standalone electronic logbook.

Key features

Logging and compliance

DashLink provides the engine connection for ELD logging, and offline logging offers a practical safeguard against gaps in connectivity. Permitted log edits help drivers correct entries, but the required recertification is an important part of the workflow. Inspection mode gives drivers a way to present or send logs when officials request them.

Fleet operations

The web app brings fleet tracking, messaging and violation notifications alongside driver logs. That combination can help managers follow operations and address compliance issues without relying only on a driver’s mobile app. BigRoad also provides training material for enabling access to third-party software integrations, useful for businesses connecting it to other tools.

Support and data use

Support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by phone and email. BigRoad recommends at least 500 MB of data for drivers operating only in the U.S. or Canada, and at least 1 GB with roaming for cross-border travel. Those recommendations are worth factoring into a driver’s mobile plan.

BigRoad’s privacy policy says access to personal information is restricted to select employees or representatives and describes security procedures, while acknowledging it cannot guarantee absolute security.

Pricing

BigRoad is paid software with custom pricing, and a free trial is available. The three published bundles have no fixed price; contact BigRoad for accurate pricing. That means fleets should compare quotes against their vehicle count and the capabilities they need before committing.

DashLink ELD Bundle: Includes the ELD package, vehicle mileage reporting, live messaging, IFTA mileage reporting and fuel tax reporting. It is the most direct fit for operators focused on logging and mileage and tax workflows.
Fleet Insights Advanced Bundle: Includes the ELD package, IFTA mileage reporting, vehicle GPS tracking, driving behavior monitoring and safety dashboards. Fleets that need location and safety oversight alongside ELD functions may prefer this broader operational set.
Insights Solution Suite Bundle: Includes Fleet Insights Advanced features, an AI dual-facing dash cam, video telematics, event recording, driver coaching and a DVIR app. It suits fleets seeking camera and coaching tools as well as core fleet insight features.

Each bundle is paid and carries custom pricing, so there is no lower-cost free tier to fall back on. The free trial gives prospective customers a way to evaluate the service before moving to a paid arrangement.

Platforms

BigRoad supports Android, iOS and web. The mobile app requires Android 8 or higher or iOS 12.0 or higher and runs on smartphones and tablets; it cannot be used on a laptop. The web app serves fleet functions, while driver mobile access depends on a compatible device. DashLink hardware is required for engine-connected ELD logging.

Who it's for

BigRoad describes its customers as owner-operators and fleet-owning businesses across North America. It is especially suitable for operators who need mobile logging, inspection workflows and fleet visibility together, and are prepared to use DashLink and manage a mobile data plan. Drivers who only want a basic log app, cannot use a compatible phone or tablet, or do not want required hardware should consider other options.

Pros and cons

Pros

Combines driver and fleet workflows: Mobile logs pair with web tracking, communications and violation notifications, so the system can serve both drivers and managers.
Supports inspection and correction tasks: Drivers can show or send logs to officials and edit events within regulatory limits, with recertification built into the process.
Offline logging and round-the-clock support: Logging can continue offline, and phone and email support is available 24/7.
Multiple fleet scopes: Bundles range from ELD and mileage reporting to GPS tracking, safety monitoring, camera features and driver coaching.

Cons

DashLink is required for engine-connected logging: Drivers cannot treat the mobile app as a hardware-free ELD solution.
Mobile use has device and data constraints: The app requires current-enough Android or iOS devices, cannot run on a laptop, and BigRoad recommends substantial data allowances for cross-border use.
Pricing requires a quote: None of the bundles has a fixed published price, making direct cost comparisons harder.
