Overview

AvePoint Cloud Backup is a cloud backup and recovery service for organizations protecting business applications across multiple SaaS and cloud platforms. It is strongest for administrators and security teams that need broad coverage and detailed recovery controls; its paid, custom-priced model makes it a harder fit for buyers who need a clear upfront cost.

Automated backups are intended to help recover from ransomware and configuration errors. The combination of item-level restore, cross-tenant recovery and protection for settings and permissions gives it a broader recovery role than simply keeping copies of files.

Key features

Coverage includes Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, Google Workspace, Azure, Power Platform, Microsoft Entra ID and other SaaS applications. This breadth can simplify protection for organizations with varied cloud workloads, but may be excessive for a team that only needs to safeguard one small service.

Microsoft 365 coverage spans Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, Viva Engage, Planner, Project Online and Power Platform. Salesforce backups can capture records and metadata up to four times daily, with copies kept outside Salesforce. Google Workspace protection covers Gmail, Drive, Shared Drives, Contacts and Calendars, with both granular and bulk restore.

Backups run multiple times daily. AvePoint says storage and retention are unlimited, and supports encryption, immutability and logical air-gapping. Ransomware detection is designed to flag suspicious activity and support recovery. These controls suit organizations with substantial continuity requirements, although they do not remove the need to assess the service against a buyer's own security and recovery policies.

Recovery options include item-level restore, data export and cross-tenant restores. App-aware recovery can include configurations, versions and permissions, which matters when a recovery must restore how an application is set up, not just its content. Storage destinations include AvePoint storage, cloud storage and FTP/SFTP-compatible destinations.

For Microsoft 365, data is protected in transit and at rest, with Bring Your Own Storage and Bring Your Own Key options. AvePoint lists ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 27017:2015 certifications; ISO 27017 scope includes its SaaS services and solutions. SaaS purchases include 24/7 Global Premium Support by phone, chatbot and online portal.

Pricing

AvePoint Cloud Backup is paid, with custom pricing available by request. There is one named plan, AvePoint Cloud Backup; no seat allowance, quota, trial term or renewal condition is stated. The plan's appeal is its broad workload coverage and stated unlimited storage and retention, but buyers should request a quote and confirm how its commercial terms fit their deployment before comparing total cost.

Platforms

The service is cloud-deployed and supports Android, iOS and web. Its stated SaaS coverage includes Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, Google Workspace, Azure and Power Platform, with Microsoft Entra ID and other SaaS applications also included in the product coverage.

Who it's for

AvePoint identifies cloud service administrators, security executives and end users among its intended audiences, and promotes multi-tenant management for managed service providers. It is a sensible candidate for organizations consolidating backup across several cloud services or needing granular and cross-tenant recovery. A small team protecting only one uncomplicated workload may find its breadth and custom-pricing purchase process more than it needs.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage across major productivity, CRM and cloud platforms can reduce the need to source separate backup tools for each service.
Pros: Item-level and cross-tenant recovery, plus app-aware restoration of configurations, versions and permissions, addresses both content and service-state recovery needs.
Pros: AvePoint states storage and retention are unlimited and offers several security controls, including ransomware detection, immutability and logical air-gapping.
Pros: 24/7 Global Premium Support is included with SaaS purchases.
Cons: Custom pricing requires a quote, so cost is not immediately comparable with products that publish rates.
Cons: Its wide service coverage may be unnecessary overhead for organizations that only need backup for one modest workload.

Verdict

AvePoint Cloud Backup is best for organizations protecting several cloud workloads that need granular, app-aware and cross-tenant recovery. Its breadth, stated unlimited storage and retention, and included round-the-clock support make it a strong shortlist candidate. Look elsewhere if your requirements are narrow or you need a published price before engaging a vendor.
