Overview

Wikily is a platform for building game-community wikis with pages, maps and structured reference material. It suits volunteer groups that want to publish guides and game data without code or server administration. Its strongest case is combining interactive maps with shared datasets; ad-supported reader pages and manual translation are notable trade-offs.

Key features

Visual editing and team oversight

Creators arrange pages with draggable blocks and widgets in a live preview instead of writing markup. That makes it a practical option for contributors who can organize information but do not want to work directly with code. Owners can invite editors, assign roles, review revisions and draw on revision history, which gives a community tools to manage contributions and track changes.

Maps and shared data

Maps support pan and zoom, filterable markers and links from locations to wiki pages. Tables and datasets can feed both page entries and map markers, so a change to shared information can update multiple views. This suits games where readers move between locations and reference data; a prose-led wiki may have less reason to choose Wikily's map-and-data approach.

Appearance, languages and AI

Wiki owners can configure themes, colours, fonts and logos. Wikis can offer supported reader languages, but adding a language does not translate the content, so multilingual communities still need to provide translations themselves.

An AI assistant that speaks MCP can edit a wiki through a service token assigned a selected role. Its edits follow the wiki's review and version-history mechanisms, keeping that workflow within the same editorial controls as other changes.

Privacy and support

Wikily's privacy policy identifies NX Software SAS as the data controller and says it does not sell personal data. It says stored data is hosted using Hetzner, describes locked certified data-center storage and encryption where possible, and mentions periodic security reviews. Support channels include a Discord community, a contact channel and a service-status page.

Pricing

Wikily uses a freemium model, with a Free plan at 0.00 USD per free. Wiki creation is free forever, and wikis are free to read. The plan is a clear starting point for communities building a reference site without a subscription commitment; no paid Wikily tier or additional plan limits are described here.

Reader pages carry ads from Wikily's ad partner. Readers with Premium see no ads, so communities should consider whether advertising suits the experience they want for their audience. Wiki languages also require actual translated content; selecting a language alone does not provide it.

Platforms

Wikily is available on iOS, web and Windows. Those platform options cover browser-based access as well as the listed mobile and desktop platforms.

Who it's for

Wikily is best suited to game communities that want to publish guides, calculators, build planners and maps together without maintaining code or servers. It is particularly relevant when shared datasets need to appear across pages and maps, or when several editors need roles and revision review. Groups focused mainly on prose, unwilling to maintain translations, or seeking ad-free reading for all visitors may prefer a different fit.

Pros and cons

Pros: The visual editor provides live preview without markup, making page construction accessible to non-coders.
Pros: Shared datasets can supply both pages and map markers, reducing divergence between related reference views.
Pros: Roles, revision review and history support accountable collaboration among community editors.
Cons: Adding supported languages does not translate content, leaving localization work with the community.
Cons: Reader pages carry partner ads unless readers have Premium, which may not suit communities seeking an ad-free default.

Alternatives

Game Wiki Software is the broader category guide for readers comparing game-wiki tools.

Consider Campfire if its writing and worldbuilding modules are a better match; its free Try For Free plan offers limited access to those modules and requires no credit card. Huijiwiki is a free, web-based alternative with free registration and site applications, though applications are not guaranteed approval.

Kanka may suit campaign organizers: its free Kobold plan offers unlimited entries and campaigns. Miraheze is worth considering for free wiki hosting with 300+ extensions and skins, and it describes its code as open source.

Nectory is a possible fit for a small team needing a public wiki and draft-and-publish workflow: its free plan allows one wiki space, three team members and 1 GB storage. Obsidian Portal may suit campaign managers who can work within a free allowance of two campaigns, 2 MB per campaign and one map.

wiki.gg offers free wiki hosting, but applications are accepted case by case and hosted wikis use a wiki.gg subdomain. World Anvil is another freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose Wikily if your game community needs collaborative wiki pages tied to interactive maps and shared data, and can manage its own translations. Its free-forever wiki creation makes it accessible to start; look elsewhere if partner ads on reader pages or the need to create translations are unacceptable.
