Overview

Activepieces brings workflow automation and AI agent building together for teams that want to define processes in chat, then shape how those processes run. It is a strong fit when integration breadth and deployment control matter; its credit limits and five-minute minimum run interval are important constraints to weigh.

Flows can include branching, retries, waitpoints, subflows, error handling, human approvals and inline TypeScript. That makes the platform suited to processes with exceptions and review steps, rather than only simple app-to-app handoffs. Teams that need frequent scheduled runs should look elsewhere: the minimum interval is five minutes.

Key features

The catalog contains 764 integrations, including Gmail, Slack, OpenAI, Notion, Google Sheets, HubSpot and Salesforce. Every piece is included on every plan, including Free and self-hosted deployments, so upgrading is not required just to access a connector. Multi-step workflows, conditional logic and webhook triggers give teams several ways to route and start automations.

Users can describe an outcome in chat and have Activepieces build a flow or agent. Connected apps can also be exposed through one Activepieces MCP server for Claude, Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP clients. Agents refer to connections by name; credentials are resolved inside the worker while a step runs. The company says customer automations, runs, documents and prompts are not used to train models.

Activepieces runs on its cloud, on customer infrastructure or in an air-gapped environment. Its security page states SOC 2 Type 2, AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS in transit and a 2026 penetration test. Activepieces Cloud runs in Frankfurt by default, with other regions available on request; self-hosted deployments can use a region chosen by the customer. The recommended Docker Compose installation requires Docker Compose v2, at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, so self-hosting offers control but carries infrastructure requirements.

Pricing

The Free plan is free forever. It includes 1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows, one user and community support. When credits run out, additional runs wait until credits refresh the next day. This is suitable for an individual trying the platform or running modest workloads, but not a shared team workspace.

Plus costs 20.00 USD per month, billed $20/mo. It raises the allowance to 10,000 credits a month, supports up to 5 users, keeps unlimited flows and charges $0.007/credit over quota. It is the practical step up for a small team that needs collaboration and a larger monthly allowance, though overage charges matter for unpredictable usage.

Team costs 200.00 USD per month, billed $200/mo. It includes 50,000 credits a month, 25 users, unlimited flows, unlimited projects and email support. That suits teams that need project separation and a larger group, but the jump from Plus makes it worth matching the included credits and seats to actual needs. Free and Plus include community support; Team adds email support.

Ultimate has custom pricing and includes unlimited users and flows, with dedicated support. Embed has custom pricing and includes 760+ integrations. Enterprise control has custom pricing and includes SSO and SCIM, custom RBAC, audit logs and secret managers. There is no free trial; the free tier provides a continuing way to evaluate the product, subject to its one-user and credit limits.

Platforms

Activepieces is available on the web and through an API, and can be self-hosted. Cloud deployment avoids the stated Docker Compose resource requirements, while customer-hosted and air-gapped options suit organizations that need to choose their infrastructure or region.

Who it's for

Activepieces is best for teams building multi-step automations or AI agents that need branching, approvals, exception handling or a choice of deployment environment. Its all-plan integration access is useful for teams comparing tiers by credit and user needs rather than connector availability. It is less suitable for solo users who quickly outgrow 1,000 monthly credits, teams needing more than five-minute scheduled intervals, or organizations that want a free trial before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: All 764 pieces are included across plans, including Free and self-hosted deployments, keeping connector access broad without a tier upgrade.
Pros: Branching, retries, approvals, error handling and inline TypeScript support more involved workflows than a basic linear sequence.
Pros: Cloud, customer infrastructure and air-gapped deployment options let teams choose where automations run.
Cons: Free is limited to one user and 1,000 monthly credits; runs wait for the next day's refresh after credits are exhausted.
Cons: A five-minute minimum run interval rules it out for scheduled tasks that need a faster cadence.
Cons: The recommended self-hosting setup requires Docker Compose v2 and at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM.

Alternatives

Make is worth comparing if mobile apps matter or a free allowance of up to 1,000 credits a month is enough; its Free plan also caps users at two active scenarios and a 15-minute minimum interval. Choose Zapier if its Free plan's 100 tasks per month and two-step workflows fit your needs, or if a free trial of Professional and Team is important.

Pabbly Connect is another freemium workflow option to compare. IFTTT suits readers seeking applets and mobile app access, with a Free plan limited to two applets. Joget is an alternative with a Free Tier for three users. Zoho Flow offers a Free plan with 100 tasks per month and five flows. Tines has a Free edition capped at three live workflows. Albato is another freemium option, with a Free plan that allows 100 transactions and five active automations.

Verdict

Choose Activepieces if your team needs capable workflow and agent building, broad connector access, and the option to control deployment. Its most compelling advantage is that all pieces are available even on Free and self-hosted deployments; the main reasons to look elsewhere are the Free plan's tight user and credit caps, the five-minute minimum interval, or the infrastructure burden of self-hosting.
