Overview

WebPurify has provided moderation services since 2007, serving customers from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies. CMS plugins, APIs and hybrid deployment options give it routes into both smaller websites and larger applications. Its appeal is breadth and choice of review workflow; the main trade-offs are plan-specific throughput limits and advance setup for dedicated human teams.

Key features

Text moderation and integrations

The profanity filter supports 15 languages and lets operators define custom block and allow lists. Offensive intent detection is confined to custom plans, so organizations that need that capability must move beyond the standard monthly tiers. WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plugins suit sites built on those CMSs, while web and mobile applications can integrate through the API.

Unlimited submissions on the Plugins, Standard and Enterprise plans do not mean unlimited concurrency: each license permits only one, two or four simultaneous requests, respectively. That distinction matters for busy services, which may need to assess whether the cap fits their traffic pattern or consider custom infrastructure.

Image, video and audio moderation

Images can be reviewed by AI, human moderators or a hybrid workflow. WebPurify says AI checks average about 250 milliseconds; standard human review typically takes around two minutes, with a stated maximum of five minutes. The 100-photo image trial requires neither a contract nor a credit card, making it a low-commitment way to evaluate the service. Human turnaround is slower than automated checking, but gives teams an option when review criteria call for human judgment.

WebPurify also offers moderation for user-generated videos and live streams, as well as audio and generative AI content. Dedicated human teams can be trained on a customer's guidelines for explicit images, but setup takes three to four weeks. That lead time makes dedicated moderation a poor fit for projects that need a bespoke team immediately.

Privacy and moderator safeguards

WebPurify says reviewed content is not kept on its servers and that it does not store customer data. It also says human moderators undergo background checks and work in keycard-secured environments with a clean desk policy and anti-screengrab software. These safeguards are relevant for services handling sensitive material, though teams should weigh them alongside their own operational requirements.

Pricing

Text plans have a 14-day free trial with full feature access and no credit card required. Image moderation has a separate 100-photo offer. There is no general free plan; the image plans below are priced per image rather than as monthly text subscriptions.

Plan	Price	What it includes	Best fit
WebPurify AIM	0.00 USD per once, billed per image	AI categories, real-time results, API access and email support.	Teams seeking AI image checks with real-time results.
Live Moderation	0.02 USD per once, billed per photo	Turnkey criteria, results within five minutes, API access and email support.	Teams that need human photo review rather than AI-only screening.
Plugins	5.00 USD per month, billed monthly	One simultaneous request, unlimited submissions, one domain or IP, no subdomains, one language, CMS plugins and email support.	A small CMS site with modest concurrency and a single language. Its single request and domain make it the narrowest text tier.
Standard	15.00 USD per month, billed monthly	Two simultaneous requests, unlimited submissions, one domain or IP, two subdomains, one language, full API access, and email, phone and URL filtering.	Web or mobile applications needing API access and more filtering options, provided two concurrent requests suffice.
Enterprise	50.00 USD per month, billed monthly	Four simultaneous requests, unlimited submissions, six domains or IPs, 12 subdomains, multiple languages, regional endpoints, SSL encryption and advanced reporting; email support.	Organizations with several properties or multiple-language needs. It still caps concurrency at four.
Custom Dedicated Servers or Host it Yourself	Custom pricing	Unlimited simultaneous requests and submissions, unlimited domains or IPs, multiple languages, offensive intent detection, and dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting. Includes 24x7 email support and premium support with an SLA.	Teams that need unrestricted concurrency, custom detection or dedicated/self-hosted infrastructure; dedicated human teams require three to four weeks to train.

The cheaper text tiers trade concurrency, domain coverage and language breadth for lower monthly prices. Plugins is limited to one language and one domain or IP; Standard adds API access and two subdomains but remains single-language. Enterprise is the first monthly tier with multiple languages and broader property coverage. Custom is the route to unlimited request capacity, but requires a sales conversation rather than a published monthly price.

Platforms

WebPurify supports Android, iOS, web, API and self-hosted use. The CMS plugins and API provide distinct integration paths, while dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting is available on the custom plan.

Who it's for

WebPurify suits site operators who want multilingual text filtering, publishers needing CMS plugins, and platforms that need a choice between automated and human image review. Its broader video, live-stream, audio and generative AI services also make it relevant to teams moderating mixed media. It is less compelling for a text service whose traffic needs exceed the four-request Enterprise cap, or for an organization that cannot wait weeks for a dedicated human team.

Pros and cons

Pros: Text filtering covers 15 languages and supports custom block and allow lists, giving community operators control over local policies.
Pros: Image workflows range from fast AI checks to human or hybrid review, so teams can choose a moderation approach by use case.
Pros: The 14-day text trial and 100-photo image offer lower the commitment required to evaluate separate services.
Cons: Monthly text plans cap simultaneous requests at one, two or four, despite unlimited submissions; high-concurrency teams may need custom pricing.
Cons: Dedicated human teams take three to four weeks to train, which is a meaningful delay for time-sensitive launches.
Cons: Offensive intent detection is limited to custom plans, placing it beyond the fixed-price text tiers.

Alternatives

Google Cloud Vision API is worth comparing for API-led image moderation if a freemium service and a free allowance for the first 1,000 are a priority.
Amazon Rekognition Content Moderation offers a free tier for 12 months, including 60 free video analysis minutes per month; consider it when that time-limited allowance fits your evaluation or workload.
Hive Moderation may suit developers seeking access to more than 10 models and free credits after adding a payment method.
Sightengine is an option for teams wanting a free plan with a stated 1 request-per-second limit, but its free tier excludes video processing and live-stream support.
Llama Guard is a self-hosted, free alternative for teams prepared to work with model weights.
Besedo may suit teams looking for a trial that includes 10,000 pieces of moderated content each month, unlimited users, and moderation, automation and analytics.
Moderation API is another API-based option; its Basic plan costs 79.00 USD per month and includes 10,000 messages, video and audio moderation, and three team members.
Tisane API is an alternative to consider for Windows or Linux deployments.

Verdict

Choose WebPurify if you need moderation across text and media, particularly when configurable text rules or a choice of AI, human and hybrid image review is valuable. Its main advantage is that range of workflows; look elsewhere if fixed-price text plans cannot meet your concurrency needs or if a dedicated human team must be ready sooner than three to four weeks.
