About The People's Operator

The People's Operator was a virtual mobile network operator serving customers in the United Kingdom through Three and in the United States through Sprint and T-Mobile. Launched in 2012, it presented itself as an ethical network operator. The company said private customers could direct support toward selected good causes, charities, nonprofits, progressive organisations, or ethical groups and receive updates about how money was spent. Businesses could use the service for corporate social responsibility commitments. The company’s stock lost nearly 90 percent of its value during the year and a half after launch. Trading on the London exchange was suspended in July 2018 after it failed to provide its 2017 financial reports. In December 2018, its majority-owner holding company provided a cash infusion. On 13 February 2019, The People's Operator announced that it had entered administration, and its stock stopped trading on 26 February 2019. The operator was headquartered in the United Kingdom and listed both the UK and United States among its countries.

Who it suits

It was aimed at mobile customers and businesses interested in linking phone service with support for causes or corporate responsibility.

Verdict

The People's Operator combined mobile service with an ethical giving proposition in the UK and United States. Its administration and cessation of stock trading mean the entry describes a former operator, not an active network.
