YouTube has not generally removed Autoplay. The switch is placed differently in the Android and iPhone/iPad apps, desktop website, TV and console apps, and casting controls. It can also be absent on Shorts, live streams, embedded players, or a temporarily changed interface. Start with a normal, on-demand video, then use the location for your device below.
Find the Autoplay control on your device

| iPhone or iPad app | Tap the video and check near the top of the player, or open Profile picture → Settings → Autoplay. |
| Desktop website | Hover over a standard watch-page video and check the bottom edge of the player. |
| Smart TV or game console | Open the YouTube app’s Settings → Autoplay. |
| Casting | On the connected phone or tablet, expand the bottom control bar and change Autoplay in the queue. |

If the button is not visible
- Use the right test video. Open a conventional, on-demand video from a normal YouTube watch page. Shorts, live streams, playlist views, embedded players, third-party web views, and simplified TV interfaces may not expose the same control.
- Show the player controls. Tap the video on mobile, or move the pointer over the player on desktop. On a computer, do not look only in YouTube’s general Settings menu: the documented control is at the bottom of the player.
- Check the platform setting. On Android and iOS use Profile picture → Settings → Autoplay; on TVs and consoles use YouTube Settings → Autoplay. Preferences can differ between devices.
- Refresh the session. Reload the page, force-close and reopen the app, restart the TV or streaming device, or disconnect and reconnect casting.
- Test without extensions. Open YouTube in a private or incognito window. If the switch returns, temporarily disable ad blockers, interface customizers, privacy or script blockers, cookie tools, user-agent switchers, and browser media-control extensions, then re-enable them one at a time.
- Try another browser or device. If Autoplay appears there, the original browser, app installation, device, or signed-in session is the likely local source of the problem—not necessarily a YouTube-wide removal.
- Clear local YouTube data. Delete YouTube site data or cookies in the browser, or clear the app cache where your operating system offers that option. Clearing app data can sign you out and remove local preferences.
- Update or reinstall YouTube. Install the latest available app update on mobile and TV devices. Reinstalling can repair damaged local data, but it cannot undo a server-side interface experiment.
- Compare signed-in and signed-out views. Sign out, or use a private window. A difference may reflect account-specific testing, a supervised-account restriction, a corrupted session, or a synchronization issue; it does not by itself prove which cause applies.
Autoplay is on, but the next video does not start
The switch controls whether another related video starts after the current one ends. Even when it is enabled, YouTube says playback can stop when:
- you scroll away from the player;
- you type a comment or search;
- you choose Cancel at the end of the previous video;
- the session reaches YouTube’s inactivity limit—30 minutes on a mobile network or four hours on Wi‑Fi;
- the next item is unavailable, restricted, age-gated, region-limited, or otherwise unable to play; or
- an extension, content blocker, privacy tool, network filter, outdated app, or corrupted local data interferes with the player.
Return to the player, try a different standard video, and repeat the diagnostic sequence above before treating the failure as a missing-button problem.

Autoplay next video
This is the YouTube watch-page feature that starts another related video after the current one finishes.
Video previews
Silent snippets that play while browsing or hovering over thumbnails are previews. Their behavior is separate from the next-video switch.

Embedded players
A video on another website may be configured by the site owner with YouTube’s autoplay=1 player parameter. The YouTube.com switch does not necessarily control that embedded player. See YouTube’s embedding help and the YouTube player-parameters documentation.
Browser media autoplay
Browsers can independently allow or block media playback. That permission may affect an embedded or automatically starting video without changing the Autoplay switch on YouTube’s own watch page.

Account, age, device, and casting exceptions
- YouTube says Autoplay is turned off by default for users aged 13–17.
- On supervised accounts, a parent or guardian may prevent the viewer from changing Autoplay. Do not try to bypass that restriction.
- Changing Autoplay on a phone does not necessarily change it on a desktop browser, TV, or console.
- During casting, manage the queue from the connected phone or tablet rather than searching for the same switch on the television screen.
- On mobile data, Autoplay may stop after 30 minutes of inactivity; on Wi‑Fi, YouTube documents a four-hour inactivity limit. This expected stop is different from the control disappearing.
How to stop videos when the switch is unavailable
If you want Autoplay off and cannot reach the setting, close the video before it ends, select Cancel when YouTube presents the next video, and avoid leaving a playlist or queue running unattended. Browser- or device-level media-blocking settings are a last resort because they can affect other sites and apps.

- device model and operating-system version;
- YouTube app version or browser name and version;
- whether you are signed in;
- whether the issue affects normal videos, Shorts, playlists, and live streams;
- whether it occurs on Wi‑Fi, mobile data, or both; and
- a screenshot or screen recording.
Community reports can show that users see different locations or behavior, but they do not establish a permanent platform-wide change. YouTube’s official documentation still describes Autoplay controls on major platforms: support.google.com/youtube/answer/6327615.

- Open a normal, on-demand video.
- Reveal the controls and check your platform’s documented location.
- Check the device-specific Autoplay setting.
- Refresh YouTube and test another video.
- Use a private window or disable extensions.
- Try another browser or device, then clear local data only if needed.
- Update or reinstall the app and report the issue if it persists everywhere.
