What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Go to classroom.google.com, choose Go to Classroom or Sign in, and use the Google account connected to your class. Enter the password, complete any prompts, and choose I’m a Student or I’m a Teacher if Google asks. A class code is normally used after sign-in to join a class.
Which Google account should I use?
Your account type determines which Classroom you can access:
- School account: A school-managed Google Workspace for Education account, often formatted like [email protected]. Use it for classes provided by that school, including when you study from home.
- Personal Google Account: An account such as [email protected], created by you, a parent, or a guardian. It may be appropriate for homeschool, tutoring, clubs, or other non-school classes.
- Organization account: An account managed by an employer, nonprofit, or other organization, often using that organization’s domain.
Having a Google account does not automatically grant access to a particular school’s Classroom. The school or organization must use Google Workspace and enable Classroom for the relevant accounts. Google explains the account differences at its account guidance.
Sign in to Google Classroom on a computer
- Open a web browser and go to https://classroom.google.com.
- Select Go to Classroom or Sign in.
- Enter the email address connected to your class and select Next.
- Enter your password and select Next.
- Read the welcome message and select Accept, if it appears.
- If prompted for a Google Workspace for Education account, choose I’m A Student or I’m A Teacher.
- Select Get Started when shown.
After a successful sign-in, students should see their available classes. Depending on permissions, teachers may see classes to open, create, or join. Google’s official first-time instructions are at Google Classroom Help.

Already signed in to the wrong Google account?
On a computer
- Open Classroom and select your profile image or initial at the top.
- Select the account connected to the class.
- If it is not listed, choose the option to add another account and sign in.
On Android or iPhone/iPad
- Open the Classroom app and select the profile image or account control.
- Select the correct account, or choose Add another account.
- Sign in with the school, personal, or organization account used for the class.
If you can sign in to Google but see “You can’t use Classroom with this account”, the selected account is usually not permitted or associated with that class. Switch accounts or sign out and sign in again. Keep the correct account selected before joining a class, particularly on a shared device. Google’s account-switching guidance is in the sign-in help.

No. A class code is normally for joining a class after you have signed in. Students can also join through a class link or an email invitation.
- Sign in to Classroom.
- Select Join class.
- Enter the teacher’s code.
- Select Join.
Class codes are 6–8 characters made from letters and numbers; they cannot contain spaces or special characters. See Google’s class-code instructions, plus guidance for class links and email invitations.

Google Classroom sign-in problems
| Message or symptom | Likely cause | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| You can’t use Classroom with this account | The wrong Google account is selected. | Switch to or add the account associated with the class. |
| Your administrator hasn’t activated Classroom | Classroom has not been enabled for the account. | Contact the school or organization’s Google Workspace administrator. |
| This service has been disabled by your admin | Classroom is disabled for that account. | Ask the administrator to enable the service. |
| Password forgotten | Account recovery is required. | Use the recovery route for your account type, described below. |
| Signed in as a student but should be a teacher | The managed Classroom role is incorrect. | Ask the administrator to change the role. |
Forgotten password
- School Google Workspace account: Ask your teacher to contact the school’s Google Workspace administrator or IT department. School-managed accounts may not support ordinary consumer recovery.
- Personal Google Account: Use Google’s standard account password recovery process.
- Organization account: Contact that organization’s administrator.
See Google’s student guidance at this page and password-reset guidance at this page.
Role or service problems
If your school does not use Google Workspace for Education, or has not activated Classroom, a student cannot fix the issue from the sign-in screen. A teacher or administrator must provision the service. If a teacher was provisioned as a student, the administrator must correct the role; Google documents that process at its teacher troubleshooting page.

Classroom requires an active internet connection to sign in. Check Wi-Fi or mobile data, then retry. If the page repeatedly returns to the wrong account, inspect the profile menu, switch accounts, add the correct account, and sign out and back in.
What parents and guardians can access
Parents and guardians generally cannot sign in to a student’s Classroom to view assignments. If the teacher enables guardian summaries, they may receive email updates instead. A parent’s personal Google account is not a substitute for the student’s school account. See Google’s account and guardian guidance.
What to do after signing in
Students
Select a class to view announcements, assignments, due dates, and materials. If the class is missing, use the teacher’s code, link, or invitation while signed in to the correct account. Google’s student getting-started steps are at this page.
Teachers
Depending on the school’s setup, you can create a class, join as a co-teacher, or open a provisioned class. See Google’s teacher getting-started guide.
Still cannot sign in?
- Confirm the exact email address shown in the Google profile menu.
- Try the school or organization account rather than a personal Gmail account.
- Verify that your internet connection is active.
- Copy the exact error message.
- Contact the teacher or administrator with the error text and account type.
