Step-Wise
What Step-Wise is
Step-Wise is a free web tutoring app for adult learners practicing mathematics, physics and mechanics to pre-university level. It creates exercises with randomly generated numbers or parameters, giving learners varied, effectively unlimited practice. Problems can be worked through step by step, with a solution shown after completion or when the learner gives up. Automatic feedback checks units and can flag an incorrect unit, an implausible value or excessive significant digits. The app estimates each learner’s chance of success and aims to choose exercises with about a 50% success rate. A skill tree records estimated levels for individual skills, provides progress overviews and recommends practice. Teachers may access a student’s course progress when the student consents during enrollment; without consent, some related functionality may be unavailable. Step-Wise runs on the web, works best on a laptop and can be added to a smartphone home screen. Login uses third-party identity providers, and the app says it does not store passwords.
