The record

What it does: OpenTalking is an open-source framework for real-time digital-human conversations that connects frontend interaction, LLM replies, speech services, and avatar video playback.
Conversation features: Its conversation workflow includes session state, speech recognition and synthesis, voice selection, interruption control, subtitle events, and WebRTC audio/video playback.
Model backends: The project describes pluggable backends including Mock, QuickTalk, Wav2Lip, and remote inference options such as FlashTalk.
LLM providers: OpenTalking supports OpenAI-compatible LLM endpoints and documents Qwen, DeepSeek, and GPT as examples.
Deployment: The project supports self-deployment, private deployment, Docker, and distributed deployment, with API, worker, frontend, and model services deployable separately.
Free evaluation mode: Mock mode can validate the API, LLM, streaming TTS, subtitle events, WebRTC delivery, and browser playback without downloading video model weights.
Hardware limits: The installation guide says macOS supports Mock mode only, Windows uses Mock mode with WSL2 recommended, and the main deployment target is Linux with CUDA 12.
Browser support: The installation guide requires a WebRTC-capable client and says the frontend has been tested in Chromium-based browsers; Safari requires additional CORS configuration.
Integrations: The project lists Edge TTS, aiortc, OmniRT, and several digital-human model projects among its acknowledgements and ecosystem references.
Security and privacy: The maker describes private deployment and local operation, but the reviewed product and repository pages do not state security certifications or compliance claims.
Use cases: The maker presents live commerce, tourism guidance, medical guidance, news broadcasting, companionship, and character content as example scenarios.
License: The GitHub repository states that OpenTalking is licensed under Apache License 2.0.
