What Comic Draw is

Comic Draw is an iPad app for making comics and cartoons, with tools for scripting, drawing, inking, lettering and publishing. Its SmartScript editor recognizes script elements as you enter them, then lets you move script text onto comic pages. For artwork, it offers 34 brushes that can be customized or used to make new brushes, along with customizable perspective guides and perspective snapping. A panel tool arranges pages with configurable gutter widths, while lettering tools provide customizable balloons, caption boxes, title elements and more than 130 fonts.

Finished work can be exported as Comic Draw files, PDF, ePub, JPG or PNG. The app also supports iOS sharing options, including AirDrop and iCloud Drive, and can publish to Comic Connect, where readers can follow creators and receive notifications about new work. The Basic app allows viewing and sharing; an in-app purchase unlocks full editing. There is a 14-day trial. Comic Draw requires a 64-bit capable iPad, such as iPad Air or newer, running iOS 9.1 or later. Plasq, its maker, was founded in 2005.

Limits

The Basic app is limited to viewing and sharing; full editing requires an in-app purchase. The trial lasts 14 days, and the Comic Draw for Schools version does not include Comic Connect publishing.

Verdict

Choose Comic Draw if you want an iPad workflow covering comic scripts, artwork, lettering and page export, with an option to publish to Comic Connect. Look elsewhere if you need a platform beyond iOS/iPadOS or require Comic Connect publishing in the Schools edition.
