Zen Browser 1.12.5b is a genuine release, published on May 14, 2025. Zen labeled it a “Zen Stable Release,” but it was a small bug-fix update—not a major feature or security release.
As of August 18, 2026, it is obsolete. Zen’s official changelog lists 1.21.14b, released August 13, 2026, as the latest stable version. Use the current Zen download unless you specifically need 1.12.5b for historical testing, compatibility work, or software preservation.
What is Zen Browser 1.12.5b?
Zen Browser 1.12.5b is a version of Zen Browser, an open-source, Firefox-based desktop browser. The version number identifies a particular release; it is not a separate browser product.

Release date and official status
Zen Browser 1.12.5b was published on May 14, 2025, under the official GitHub tag 1.12.5b. The release page identifies it as a stable release and provides installers, update packages, source files, and SHA-256 checksums.
That historical label does not make the build current today. Zen’s official release notes show continued development through August 2026, including stable version 1.21.14b, which is listed with Firefox 153.0.4 as its Firefox base. The visible 1.12.5b notes do not identify its bundled Firefox version, so that detail should not be assumed.
What changed in 1.12.5b?
The official release notes list two fixes:
- URL-bar shadow: Fixed an unusual or unwanted shadow around the URL bar. This is a visual interface correction, not a stated performance, privacy, or security improvement.
- All-tabs button: Fixed the “all tabs” button appearing unexpectedly. The release notes do not specify the exact trigger, so it would be misleading to attribute the problem to a particular setting or user action.
No feature expansion, benchmark improvement, or named security fix is listed in the release entry.

Was 1.12.5b a security update?
It should be treated as a minor bug-fix release, not as a documented security update. The visible official notes contain no security section or named CVE.
That wording is important: the absence of a security section does not prove that the build contained no upstream Firefox security fixes. The release page also does not show the bundled Firefox version. It therefore cannot establish that 1.12.5b is fully patched or suitable for sensitive browsing in 2026.
Can you still download it?
The archived official GitHub release page remains the appropriate source for this exact version and lists 17 assets for Windows, macOS, Linux, and source packages. Individual assets or their availability can change, so avoid relying on unofficial mirrors.

Choose the architecture that matches both your hardware and operating system. When the exact asset or architecture is unclear, use the current official download page instead of guessing.

How to verify a 1.12.5b download
The official release page publishes SHA-256 checksums. A checksum confirms that the file you received matches the file represented by the published hash; it does not make an obsolete browser safe for modern browsing.
- Download the file from the official GitHub release.
- Calculate its SHA-256 hash locally.
- Compare the output character-for-character with the checksum shown on the release page.
- Do not run the installer if the hashes differ.

Should you install Zen Browser 1.12.5b today?
For normal use, no. The build is more than a year older than the latest stable release and may lack later browser-engine updates, security fixes, compatibility fixes, and Zen improvements. Modern websites and extensions may also behave differently from the way they did in 2025.
Do not use this archived build for banking, work accounts, email, password management, or other high-value activity. The official current download page is the better choice for a new installation.
When the old version can make sense
There are legitimate reasons to use 1.12.5b:
- Reproducing a historical bug.
- Testing a website against an older Zen build.
- Comparing interface behavior before and after a later update.
- Preserving a historically significant software environment.
- Maintaining a controlled test setup where updating would invalidate results.
For these cases, use a separate profile, test machine, virtual machine, or isolated operating-system account where practical. Keep the installer and its checksum together, and do not casually open a modern primary profile with an old executable. Profile migrations and settings formats can change between browser versions, so back up important data and prefer a disposable profile.

How to move to the current Zen release
For everyday browsing, download Zen from zen-browser.app/download and consult the official release notes for the current stable channel. The latest stable version identified there as of August 18, 2026 is 1.21.14b, released August 13, 2026.
You can also check Zen’s latest GitHub release. Before replacing an old installation, back up any profile data you need and confirm that you are downloading the correct build for your operating system and architecture.
Bottom line
Zen Browser 1.12.5b was a real, officially published stable-channel release from May 14, 2025. Its documented changes were limited to a URL-bar shadow fix and an unexpected all-tabs button fix. The archived installer is useful for reproducible testing or preservation, but it is not the right choice for a current browser installation. Use the latest stable Zen build instead.
