Zen Browser 1.12.10b was a genuine release build published on June 1, 2025. It focused on bug fixes, including startup migration, pinned tabs, and restored windows. It is now a historical version, not the recommended choice for everyday browsing: use a current build from Zen’s official download page unless you need 1.12.10b for testing, compatibility, or archival work.
What is Zen Browser 1.12.10b?
Zen is a Firefox-based, open-source desktop browser. 1.12.10b identifies a specific version in the Zen Browser desktop project. The project’s release record labels it a release build; the trailing “b” should not, by itself, be taken to mean it was a nightly build. See the 1.12.10b release page and the project’s desktop repository.
You might encounter this version in an old error report, package listing, screenshot, or discussion of a profile or migration problem. Its historical relevance does not make it a good default for a new installation today.

The release date was June 1, 2025. Zen’s release notes associate this release cycle with updates to Firefox 139.0 and 139.0.1. That identifies the Firefox updates recorded by Zen; it does not mean Zen is an unmodified Firefox installer or that every platform build can be fully described by that version number. What changed in 1.12.10b?
The published notes describe a maintenance-focused update rather than a major feature launch. The fixes addressed:
- Startup migration: corrected a migration problem that could cause unexpected behavior when Zen started and leave some services unavailable.
- Pinned-tab favicons: fixed unloaded pinned tabs showing the wrong favicon instead of the cached one.
- Restored-window gradients: fixed gradients not appearing when multiple windows were restored.
- Pinned-tab containers: fixed previously closed pinned tabs reopening in the wrong container.
The release also drew attention to security updates and fixes involving pinned tabs, Essentials, and compact mode. For the release record and the project’s broader notes, consult the historical release page and official release notes. Do not attribute features added in later releases, such as Boosts, to 1.12.10b.

Is 1.12.10b current or safe to keep using?
No: by August 18, 2026, Zen had published many later releases. Check the release history or official download page for what is currently offered; version availability can change.

The practical concern is that it predates later browser updates, so it may miss security, compatibility, and reliability improvements. For ordinary browsing, install the current official build rather than staying on 1.12.10b. There is no basis here for claiming that this particular version has a specific unpatched vulnerability.

Where to download Zen—and how to handle the old build
For a normal installation, get Zen from its official download page, which offers builds for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The official GitHub releases are another project source. Avoid random file-hosting sites for browser installers.
If you specifically need 1.12.10b, start with its historical GitHub tag. Confirm that any downloaded asset is listed under that release and check any checksum or verification information shown there. Historical assets may not remain available; do not assume an unofficial re-upload is equivalent or authentic.

Before switching to an older version, back up your Zen profile. A downgrade can interact badly with profile data or migration behavior, and no single downgrade procedure is established for every operating system and installation method. For reproduction or compatibility testing, a separate test profile is safer than the profile you rely on every day.

Piping a remotely fetched script directly to a shell means executing code before inspecting it. If you prefer to review what will run, download and examine the script first, then follow the guide’s installation instructions.
Compatibility and troubleshooting caveats
- DRM video and music: Zen’s FAQ warns that its lack of DRM support affects services including Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Movies & TV. Support can change. If playback is essential, you may need a browser with Widevine support or the service’s native app; this limitation is distinct from the 1.12.10b bug fixes.
- Download or update failures: A failed update does not necessarily mean Zen itself is broken. A project issue describes failures on a managed Windows network where access to GitHub release assets was reset. Try the official download from an unrestricted network or ask your administrator whether release-asset domains are blocked.
- Older profile behavior: If a test build produces startup or migration problems, return to your backed-up profile or test with an isolated one. Do not use a downgrade as an unbacked attempt to repair your everyday profile.
Should you install 1.12.10b?

Zen’s desktop source is public under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and the browser is distributed as a free download; the project also accepts optional support through its donation page. That does not change the practical recommendation: use a current official build unless you have a concrete reason to run this historical release.
