A purported hands-on image published on January 27, 2025, showed the Xiaomi 15 Ultra with a strikingly large, circular rear camera module—a design some coverage nicknamed a “camera Oreo.” The image was a leak, not an official Xiaomi photo, and its provenance was not independently established. The phone later launched with a similarly camera-focused design, but Xiaomi’s final specifications provide a more precise picture of what sits inside that oversized housing.
What the leaked image appeared to show
Android Headlines reported that the image showed a large circular camera island, four apparent rear cameras, Leica branding and a red accent around the housing. The camera assembly appeared to protrude substantially from the back. The report also described a curved body with a flat display. These are observations attributed to the leak coverage, not details independently authenticated from the image.
“Camera Oreo” is informal media shorthand for a large round camera island; it is not Xiaomi’s product name for the design. Xiaomi later described the rear assembly as an “integrated 3D camera deco” and presented the phone as camera-inspired.

At the time of the January report, the camera hardware was still pre-launch speculation. The report expected a 50MP main camera with a 1-inch-type sensor, a 50MP telephoto, a 200MP periscope telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide. Xiaomi’s official global specifications later confirmed a four-camera system, with the telephoto roles and focal lengths described more specifically:

Xiaomi describes the system as providing optical-level focal-length coverage from 14mm to 200mm. That wording should not be read as a promise of a separate optical lens at every intermediate focal length. Nor does a high megapixel count alone establish image quality; results also depend on optics, stabilization, processing, light and shooting conditions.
The leak broadly anticipated the main camera and the two telephoto resolutions, but the final labels matter: Xiaomi calls the 50MP unit a 70mm floating telephoto and the 200MP unit a 100mm-equivalent ultra-telephoto. The 1-inch main sensor is confirmed by Xiaomi’s specifications, not proven by the camera bump’s size.

How close was the leak to the retail design?
The final phone did arrive with a prominent integrated camera decoration and a camera-first look, broadly consistent with the image report’s description. Xiaomi also describes a wraparound curved frame. That is compatible with a curved-feeling body and flat display; it does not mean the screen itself is fully curved.
This match makes the leak directionally informative, but does not authenticate the particular image. It could have shown a prototype, and details such as finishes or camera rings can change before retail. A matching design alone cannot establish where an image came from or whether it was edited.

The February forecast was superseded
The January report expected a February 2025 launch and suggested MWC in Barcelona as a possible venue. Xiaomi’s global FAQ subsequently listed March 2, 2025 as the launch and sale date. The February timing was a forecast, not the final date.

A large camera housing accommodates a substantial combination of imaging hardware, including the 1-inch main sensor and long-range telephoto cameras. The trade-off is physical: the protrusion can make the phone rock when laid on a table, affect its balance in one hand and require a case with a suitably shaped camera opening. The circular module is also a bold design choice, not a subtle one.

The global model is listed at 226g in black and white and 229g in Silver Chrome, with thicknesses of 9.35mm and 9.48mm respectively. A case or photography grip adds more bulk. Xiaomi lists a 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED display with a 1–120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 5,410mAh typical battery, 90W wired and 80W wireless charging, and HyperOS 2. These details help put the camera hardware in context, but regional configurations and availability can differ.
Xiaomi says the power adapter is not included in the box and sells the photography kit separately. The global product specifications and accessories may not describe every country’s package or sales terms, so check the local Xiaomi listing before buying.
