Xiant Filer was a genuine Outlook add-in, but it is now legacy software. It was built for the Outlook 2007 era, with archived listings targeting Windows XP/Vista and .NET Framework 3.5. There is no verified current vendor release, support channel, or modern-Outlook compatibility, so installing an old copy is not advisable except for carefully isolated archival research.
What Xiant Filer did
Xiant Filer was designed to reduce Outlook inbox clutter by helping users move messages into folders. It could suggest a destination folder, file a message with a click, handle groups of related messages, and learn from the user’s previous filing decisions. Historical descriptions vary on how automatic the process was: the safest description is learning-based assisted filing, not a modern, autonomous AI sorter.
The add-in also offered “topics.” A topic collected messages from selected conversation threads so a user could follow a project or subject without relying only on the normal Inbox or folder tree. Topics were an additional view, not necessarily a replacement for Outlook folders.

- Select or receive a message in Outlook.
- Review Xiant Filer’s suggested folder or filing action.
- Accept or reject it.
- Let later suggestions reflect those choices and the mailbox’s folder structure.
That approach could save time, but bad confirmations or a poorly organized folder tree could also produce poor suggestions.
Who made it?
Xiant was a software company associated with Vulcan Technologies, the investment organization linked to Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen. Reports describe Allen as the product’s originator or driving force, while Xiant engineers developed the software. Xiant Filer was not a Microsoft product, and Allen’s involvement did not make it Microsoft-endorsed or Microsoft-supported (ITPro Today; Webnews).
Historical versions and requirements
The clearest surviving archive record identifies version 1.2.542.0, listed as updated February 8, 2010. Its historical requirements were:

These details come from archived software metadata, not a current support document (Softpedia listing). A separate retrospective mentions version 1.8 and Outlook 2003/2007 on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7, plus a historical price of $19.95. Treat those as claims from that archive, not a definitive official compatibility matrix or current price (Arobase).
Is Xiant Filer still available?
Historical reports say Xiant distributed the beta from its own website in 2009. Current results, however, identify old third-party archive listings rather than a maintained official download or support portal. An archive page or mirror is not proof that an executable is authentic, unmodified, safe, or licensed.

Do not bypass antivirus warnings or recommend an old mirror installer for everyday use. If you need the program for software-history research, use an isolated, disposable virtual machine, keep the system offline where practical, and preserve a known hash of any research sample. Do not install it into a production mailbox or your main Windows account.
Does it work with current Outlook?
There is no verified evidence that Xiant Filer supports current desktop Outlook releases. Its documented environment predates Microsoft 365, modern authentication, current Office architectures, and the new Outlook for Windows. It should not be assumed to work with:

An old installer launching successfully would not prove that its add-in loads, that it can access a modern mailbox, or that filing actions are reliable. Possible symptoms include a blocked installer, missing .NET components, a disabled Outlook add-in, no filing suggestions, incorrect moves, or topic views that conflict with current search and conversation features.
Should you install it?
For normal use in 2026, no. The software is obsolete, unsupported, and distributed—if found at all—through old archives. An outdated Outlook add-in can silently misfile messages, fail after an Office update, or conflict with security and account changes. The narrow exception is controlled archival work in a virtual machine using nonessential test data.
What to use instead
Outlook rules
Rules are the closest built-in replacement for deterministic filing by sender, subject, recipient, or other conditions. They are supported through Microsoft’s current Outlook ecosystem and are easier to audit than a discontinued learning system. Categories, search folders, and conversation views
If you want organization without moving every message, use categories and dynamic search folders. Conversation views group related messages, while categories let one message belong to several work contexts without duplicating it. These tools are more transparent than Xiant’s learned suggestions, though they require deliberate setup.

Current Microsoft 365 Outlook
For supported Windows and cloud-connected workflows, use the Outlook edition included with your organization’s Microsoft 365 plan or current purchase. Third-party services
Cloud services can help with different parts of the problem, but none is an exact Xiant Filer replacement:
- SaneBox focuses on inbox triage and prioritization.
- Clean Email emphasizes bulk cleanup, grouping, and unsubscribe workflows.
- Mailstrom is aimed at large-scale cleanup and decluttering.
Before connecting any service, check account permissions, privacy terms, supported mailbox types, trial conditions, and current pricing on the vendor’s own site.

- Review folders for unexpected moves or missing messages.
- Disable the add-in and observe whether filing behavior changes.
- Remove it through the installed-apps or Programs and Features interface; labels vary by Windows version.
- Recreate useful behavior with rules, categories, search folders, or a supported service.
- Keep a rollback plan until you have confirmed that messages are arriving and filing normally.
Moving a message between Outlook folders normally does not delete it, but verify the destination and any automation before relying on it for business or legal records.
