WingetUI 2 was a real version of the WingetUI graphical package manager, but it is not the current product name. The project continued as UniGetUI, a graphical interface for WinGet and several other package managers. For a supported installation, use the current UniGetUI releases, the Microsoft Store, or the official package-manager commands—not an old “WingetUI 2” mirror.
What was WingetUI 2?
WingetUI was an open-source graphical front end for software package managers. Its version 2 line let Windows users search for packages, install and remove applications, update existing software, and perform bulk operations without typing every command.
The important distinction is that WingetUI did not replace the package managers underneath it. WinGet is Microsoft’s package manager; WingetUI was a graphical client that could orchestrate WinGet and other backends. The historical project is documented in the original WingetUI repository.
Why is it called UniGetUI now?
The original name highlighted WinGet, although the application supported more ecosystems than WinGet alone. The project now uses UniGetUI to reflect that broader scope. UniGetUI is the continuation of WingetUI, not an unrelated replacement. The maintained code and releases are published by Devolutions.

References to “WingetUI 2” therefore usually mean one of three things: the historical version line, an old installer, or a search for the current UniGetUI application. Current fixes, compatibility work, and downloads are associated with UniGetUI.
WingetUI, UniGetUI, WinGet and winget-pkgs

Package availability and metadata come from the selected backend and its repositories, including the WinGet community manifests. UniGetUI does not host every installer itself.
Is WingetUI 2 still supported?
There is no separately maintained current product line called “WingetUI 2.” The practical upgrade path is UniGetUI. As of August 16, 2026, the official releases page showed UniGetUI v2026.2.5, released July 16, 2026: check the releases page for changes after that date.
Version 2026.2.5 added searchable settings, a configurable skip level for minor updates, improved update notifications, fixes for PowerShell 7.x module-install scope, and corrected sorting of installed packages under NativeAOT builds. Earlier 2026 releases completed the Avalonia migration, enabled NativeAOT by default for release packages, added Windows 11 Snap Layout support, and expanded cross-platform work.

How to install UniGetUI safely
The project’s official README recommends the Microsoft Store on Windows. You can also use these verified routes:

Scoop

choco install unigetuiChocolatey package metadata can change, so verify the identifier in Chocolatey before copying a command.
Official installer or portable build
The official releases provide x64 and ARM64 installers and portable ZIP files. The repository describes UniGetUI.Installer.exe as the legacy/default x64 alias and recommends choosing an explicit architecture when it matters. Download from GitHub Releases, not a third-party download portal.

The current project documents support for WinGet, Chocolatey, Scoop, Pip, npm, Bun, .NET Tool, PowerShell Gallery, Cargo, Homebrew, APT, DNF, Pacman, Flatpak, Snap and other managers. Operating-system and backend support differ; a control shown for WinGet may be unavailable for Pip, Scoop or another source.

- Search and browse package catalogs.
- Install, update and uninstall packages.
- Bulk-install or bulk-update multiple packages.
- View package metadata and, where supported, choose versions.
- Choose architecture, scope or installation location when the backend exposes those options.
- Configure manager behavior and use the current CLI or local automation interface.

Its local automation transport can use named pipes or TCP with options such as --transport, --tcp-port and --pipe-name.
Installing and updating software in practice
- Open UniGetUI and select the package manager or source you trust.
- Search by application name, then compare publisher, package ID, version and source.
- Review available scope, architecture, version and installation-location choices; these are backend-dependent.
- Install the package, approving elevation if the installer requires it.
- Use the updates view for individual or bulk updates, checking exclusions and skipped versions.
- For removal, select the installed package and confirm the underlying manager’s uninstall operation.
For scripting or repeatable provisioning, native WinGet is usually the better layer:

Why an application or update may be missing
UniGetUI can show only what a supported backend and its repository expose. A program may be absent or outdated because:
- The publisher has not submitted a package or its manifest is stale.
- The installed copy was not registered with a supported manager.
- The package uses a different ID, source, architecture or scope.
- The vendor uses a private updater, interactive installer or staged release.
- The source is disabled, unavailable or deliberately holding a version.
If an installed application is not detected, compare the manager’s records before installing another copy:
winget search <application-name>
winget list
winget source updateIf the vendor website shows a newer version, compare its release date, package-manager version, package ID, architecture, installer source and preview/stable status. Repository publication can lag behind a vendor release.

UniGetUI does not remove the need to evaluate installers. Microsoft performs checks on software available through WinGet, but the UniGetUI project still advises using trusted publishers. Before installing, verify:

- Publisher name and package ID.
- Selected source and installer origin.
- Digital signature or published hash where available.
- Whether the package is an official submission or an unofficial repackaging.
Do not use an old “WingetUI 2” mirror simply because its filename looks familiar. Prefer the Microsoft Store, the official repository and its releases page.
Common problems and recovery
Old download links are broken
Stop using the obsolete link, open the official repository, choose a current release, or run the current WinGet command with Devolutions.UniGetUI.
WinGet is unavailable
Recent UniGetUI releases include a Pinget fallback, described by the project as a portable WinGet alternative. Treat it as a fallback, not a replacement for repairing Windows App Installer or WinGet through Microsoft-supported channels: Microsoft documentation.

The installer demands administrator rights
- Retry with UniGetUI launched as administrator.
- Check whether the package supports per-user installation.
- Try the backend’s native command.
- Confirm whether the installer is interactive.
- Do not disable security checks just to force installation.
Administrative-installation behavior varies by package; see the project’s example issue at issue 4898.
Two copies of the same application appear
A manually installed application and a later package-manager installation can create duplicate files and independent update paths. Check winget list or UniGetUI’s installed list, confirm publisher and ID, and keep one primary update mechanism per application. UniGetUI or a native package manager?

UniGetUI remains useful as a visual front end even when a backend is managed directly, but it does not hide backend-specific behavior or repair every broken package-manager registration.
Bottom line
“WingetUI 2” refers to a genuine historical version of a graphical package-management application. The maintained continuation is UniGetUI. Install the current build from the Microsoft Store, the official releases page, or a verified package-manager source. Choose UniGetUI for graphical, multi-manager software management; choose native WinGet, Chocolatey or Scoop commands when scripting, repeatability and backend-specific control matter most.
