Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4367 (KB5044373) was a Beta Channel build released on October 11, 2024. Its main change was a new way to share local files directly from File Explorer or the desktop with apps that support Windows sharing. Microsoft also fixed several Start menu, Live captions, and taskbar problems.
This was a historical Windows 11 23H2 preview build—not a current production update. As of September 22, 2026, it should not be treated as the latest Windows preview or as proof that the feature shipped to every retail Windows 11 installation.

Microsoft announced the build in its Windows Insider release notes. The 22635.xxxx numbering path was used for Beta Channel builds based on the Windows 11 23H2 development branch.

The headline feature allowed some Insiders to share a local file directly from its context menu. The workflow was:

- Open File Explorer or go to the Windows desktop.
- Right-click a local file.
- Choose the relevant sharing command or a compatible app exposed through Windows Share.
- Complete the selected app’s sharing process.
This reduced the need to open an app first and then browse for the file. It also made compatible sharing apps more visible at the point where users select a file.
The limitation is important: Microsoft described the feature for local files and apps that support sharing in Windows. It was not universal sharing to every installed application. The release announcement does not establish that the command worked for folders, cloud-only files, network shares, or every file type. Those scenarios should be treated as device- and app-dependent rather than guaranteed behavior.
Why the option might not have appeared
The sharing integration used a gradual rollout, sometimes called a Control Feature Rollout. Microsoft made the feature available to a subset of Beta Channel users and expanded it over time. The rollout was associated with the Windows Update option to receive new features as soon as they became available.
As a result, two PCs running the same build could show different context-menu behavior. Microsoft also warned that Insider features could change, be removed, or never become available to the general public.
22635.4367 versus 22635.4225
These two builds are easy to confuse because both involved Windows sharing, but they addressed different destinations:

Therefore, Build 22635.4367 should not be described as the build that introduced Android sharing. That was associated with the earlier 22635.4225 feature path.
Bug fixes in Build 22635.4367
Microsoft listed these fixes for the build:
- Start menu: Fixed unexpectedly large spacing between entries in the All apps list for some Insiders.
- Live captions: Fixed a crash that affected Live captions at launch for some users in the previous two builds.
- Taskbar keyboard shortcuts: Fixed an issue where pressing Windows key + number, such as Windows + 1, did not cycle through multiple open windows for an application pinned to the taskbar.
- Uncombined taskbar: Fixed an issue where application icons appeared beside the window name instead of showing the icon for the individual window.
Microsoft also described the release as containing general improvements. That wording does not provide benchmark data or support a specific claim about faster performance.

Build 22635.4367 was an Insider preview, not a normal production update. On an eligible Windows 11 PC, the enrollment and update path was:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Open Windows Insider Program.
- Choose the Beta Channel.
- Enable Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.
- Return to Windows Update and check for updates.
Enrollment and the toggle did not guarantee an immediate offer of this exact build or its sharing feature. Insider availability depended on Microsoft’s rollout controls and the device’s configuration.

To check whether the exact build is installed, use either Settings > System > About > Windows specifications or press Windows + R, enter winver, and press Enter. The result should contain 22635.4367.
Troubleshooting the missing sharing command
The option is not visible
- Confirm the installed build with
winver. - Confirm that the PC is enrolled in the Beta Channel.
- Check whether Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available is enabled.
- Test with a local file stored on the desktop.
- Try an app known to support Windows sharing.
- Update the receiving app and sign in if its own sharing workflow requires an account.
If the command remains absent, the feature may not yet have reached the device, or the selected app or file may not match the supported scenario.
The feature appears inconsistently
That behavior can result from the gradual rollout. Microsoft explicitly allowed preview features to reach only a subset of Insiders initially, so build numbers alone did not guarantee identical feature availability.

The file is in the cloud or on a network share
The documented scenario covered local files in File Explorer and on the desktop. A cloud placeholder that is not fully downloaded, a network-share file, or a folder should not be assumed to have the same context-menu integration without separate verification.
Should you install this preview build?
Build 22635.4367 was most appropriate for Windows enthusiasts, developers, and testers who understood the risks of Insider software. The direct-sharing command could make everyday file workflows faster, but its availability was limited and its final shipping status was not guaranteed.
Users who depend on a primary work PC for reliability should not install an old Insider preview merely to obtain this feature. A stable Windows installation can continue using the existing Windows Share window, the target app’s attachment or import command, or a cloud-storage sharing link. For Android transfers, Phone Link and Link to Windows remained the relevant separate workflow.
Historical status
Build 22635.4367 was released on October 11, 2024, and belongs to Windows 11’s 23H2 Beta Channel development history. As of September 22, 2026, it is a historical build rather than a current Windows release. Its behavior should not be generalized to Windows 11 24H2, later releases, or retail installations without separate confirmation.
