Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.1350 was a Dev Channel preview for Windows 11 version 24H2, released on August 9, 2024 as KB5041871. It added a small set of features and fixes, but several changes were distributed gradually rather than enabled for every device. It is now a historical preview build, not a current public Windows release.

Microsoft’s Build 26120.1350 announcement identifies the release and its changes. These identifiers are not interchangeable: 26120.1350 is the OS build, KB5041871 is the update’s Knowledge Base number, 24H2 is the Windows version, and Dev Channel describes the Insider flight. A PC running this build was not thereby running the equivalent of a stable, publicly released 24H2 update.
Why the build mattered beyond its visible changes
Most of the user-facing changes were modest. The larger servicing context was Microsoft’s move to Dev Channel builds based on Windows 11 24H2 using the 26120.xxxx numbering family and an enablement-package/checkpoint cumulative-update model. New features and staged changes
Microsoft marked several changes as gradual rollouts. As a result, two PCs on Build 26120.1350 could behave differently. Being on the same build did not guarantee the same features were enabled.
SmartScreen verification for MSIX packages
Microsoft began rolling out a change in which SmartScreen checked the source of an MSIX package and assessed whether it was safe to install. The announcement covered local MSIX installation and web delivery through the ms-appinstaller://?source= mechanism.
This is an installation-source and safety check, not a guarantee that an application is harmless or a new MSIX installer. If a warning appears, it is not by itself proof that the software is malicious; it is a reason to verify where the package came from and whether you trust that source. Availability could vary during the rollout, and enterprise policy may also affect SmartScreen behavior.

Sharing from Windows to a paired Android phone
Windows Share began rolling out an easier way to send content to a paired Android device from the Windows Share window. Microsoft listed Phone Link on the PC and Link to Windows on the Android phone as prerequisites, with the devices paired. This was not unrestricted file transfer to every Android phone, nor did it promise compatibility with every device or configuration.
If the option did not appear, possible considerations include whether the pairing and required apps were configured and whether the feature had reached that device in the staged rollout. Android version, manufacturer customizations, permissions, connectivity, account state, and app versions can also affect practical behavior; the announcement does not guarantee identical results across them.
Windows Share interface
The announcement also showed an updated icon in the Nearby Share area associated with Android sharing. This was a presentation detail accompanying the sharing change, not a separate broad transfer feature.

Task Manager graph colors in dark mode
A gradual-rollout fix addressed incorrect graph colors on Task Manager’s Performance page when using dark mode. This fix should be read alongside the separate known issue in the same build: navigating between Task Manager pages could crash the app. Fixing one visual defect did not eliminate that more disruptive problem.

Windows Sandbox launch error 0x80370106
The build fixed an issue that could stop Windows Sandbox from launching and produce error 0x80370106. The scope is specific: it does not establish that every Sandbox launch problem, virtualization configuration issue, or hardware-compatibility fault was resolved.
Voice Access in supported non-English languages
Microsoft fixed an issue that caused Voice Access commands to fail in supported non-English languages. This should not be read as a claim that the build added support for every language.

What the Windows Update rollout toggle did
Dev Channel Insiders could use the Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available setting in Settings > Windows Update to receive selected gradual rollouts sooner. Turning it on could provide earlier access; it did not guarantee immediate access to every feature, and it did not make a Dev Channel build stable. With the setting off, a feature could still arrive later as Microsoft expanded availability. Controlled or server-side rollout could also affect when a change appeared.

These were reported limitations of this preview build, not proof that every user would encounter every problem. They matter when deciding whether to test the build on a machine used for daily work.

At the time, ordinary Insiders would check Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, with Insider enrollment and channel controls under Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program. Access depended on the device’s Insider configuration and Microsoft’s availability. The update toggle described above controlled earlier access to selected gradual feature rollouts; it was not a guarantee that every listed change would appear.

To check an installed Windows build, open Settings > System > About and look under Windows specifications for OS build. Alternatively, press Win+R, enter winver, and press Enter. These methods identify the installed Windows version/build; they do not show whether every controlled-rollout feature is enabled.
Windows Update was the normal route for consumers. Administrators handling controlled deployment can consult Microsoft’s servicing documentation, but Microsoft Update Catalog packages and multi-file deployment details are not a substitute for joining the correct Insider channel. Related Insider servicing guidance for a related 26120-series update describes package considerations for certain deployment scenarios; it should not be treated as a verified manual installation recipe for KB5041871.

Build 26120.1350 was an official Microsoft preview, but “official” is not the same as production-ready. Back up important files, avoid testing on the only copy of a critical system, and know your recovery options before moving channels or attempting a rollback. Channel changes and rollback paths have requirements and limitations; do not assume switching channels will always provide an immediate downgrade. If an update repeatedly fails, record the error code and use Microsoft’s Insider support guidance rather than repeatedly forcing installation.
Microsoft also cautioned that Dev Channel features can change, be removed, or never ship publicly. Treat the MSIX and Android-sharing changes as preview behavior, not as guaranteed features in a future public Windows release.
What followed this build?
Build 26120.1350 was not the endpoint of the 24H2-based Insider path. Microsoft announced the later Dev Channel Build 26120.1843 on September 20, 2024, and later used the 26120 series in other Insider contexts, including a 2025 Beta Channel build. As of August 2026, 26120.1350 is best understood as a historical snapshot, not a current release recommendation.
