Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4435 (KB5044377) was released to the Beta Channel on October 25, 2024, for Windows 11 version 23H2. It added elevated launching from Start and taskbar jump lists, more Dynamic Lighting effect controls, and limited Copilot-key configuration, alongside targeted fixes. It is a historical preview build—not a current Windows 11 release—and some features were rolled out gradually rather than appearing for every Insider at once.
Microsoft’s announcement and full changelog are the primary reference for this build.

Microsoft delivered this release within the Beta Channel’s 22635.xxxx enablement-package series. It was a modest preview update rather than a major redesign: three visible feature changes were accompanied by a wider set of reliability, device, and security fixes. Because it is an October 2024 flight, its behavior should not be assumed to match current Windows Insider builds.
New features and changes
Launch jump-list entries as administrator
For supported launchable items in a Start-menu or taskbar jump list, hold Shift + Ctrl while selecting the entry to launch it with administrator privileges. Microsoft’s example is opening PowerShell as administrator from a Windows Terminal jump list.

This is a shortcut for launching an eligible item elevated, not a permanent grant of administrator rights and not a universal Run as administrator command for every app or jump-list entry. User Account Control may still ask for confirmation. If it does not work, check that you are holding both keys as you select an actual launchable jump-list item, and that the system has this feature enabled. Microsoft listed the change as gradually rolling out, so it might not have appeared immediately on every PC running the build.
Dynamic Lighting gains effect directions
On compatible RGB hardware, the Dynamic Lighting settings gained additional direction choices:

The settings page also gained a clearer empty state. When Windows detects no compatible Dynamic Lighting device, it displays a placeholder message and disables the Brightness and Effects controls. That is a usability change, not an expansion to all RGB peripherals: compatibility still depends on the device and its support, firmware, and drivers, and third-party lighting software may expose different controls.

Build 22635.4435 re-enabled Copilot-key configuration after it had been disabled in Build 22635.4291. The setting was at Settings > Personalization > Text input. However, this was not unrestricted remapping: the key could launch only apps that had opted into Microsoft’s experience. Microsoft said the restriction was intended to ensure eligible apps met relevant security and privacy requirements. The announcement did not provide a list of eligible apps, so the change should not be read as permission to assign any executable or arbitrary shortcut to the key.

Fixes in the build
Most of the remaining changes addressed specific reported problems. They should not be interpreted as blanket fixes for every issue in the same product area.
Taskbar, gaming, and input
- Taskbar shortcuts: Fixed cases where Win + number-key shortcuts associated with taskbar positions did not work correctly.
- Closing taskbar windows: Fixed cases where the X button for closing an app window from the taskbar did not work for some Insiders.
- Multi-monitor games: Fixed an issue where opening and closing Game Bar could unlock the mouse from a game window on a multi-monitor setup, leaving the mouse unusable as expected inside the game. This is a targeted scenario, not a fix for every multi-monitor cursor problem.
- WebView2 controller input: Fixed WebView2 applications failing to detect input from Xbox 360 and Bluetooth controllers.
Bluetooth, meetings, and sign-in
- Bluetooth: Addressed an application hang caused by a memory leak in a device. Microsoft did not name every affected device or application, so this does not establish that all Bluetooth stability issues were resolved.
- Teams from Outlook reminders: Fixed a problem that prevented joining a Teams meeting by selecting it from an Outlook meeting reminder. It does not imply that all Outlook-to-Teams issues were fixed.
- Windows Hello for Business: Fixed PIN reset failing after a user selected “I forgot my PIN” on the credentials screen. The report concerns that reset flow in business deployments, not every Windows Hello PIN issue.
Printers, mobile operators, and diagnostics
- USB multifunction printers: Fixed a specific case where a USB-connected multifunction printer printed network-command text instead of carrying out the expected operation. This is not a general compatibility guarantee for printers.
- Mobile operators: Updated profiles for certain operators through the Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA), relevant mainly to cellular-capable Windows devices. The announcement did not name the operators.
- Performance Monitor collector sets: Fixed collector sets failing to close properly if an exception occurred during startup or while a set was active. In some cases, the command to stop a collector set could stop responding; the change did not alter command syntax.
Virtualization and security
- Virtual switches: Fixed a vmswitch stop error under a specific configuration: LBFO (Load Balancing and Failover) teaming, two virtual switches on a virtual machine, and SR-IOV enabled on one of those switches. This is a narrowly defined virtualization fix.
- Vulnerable driver blocklist: Updated
DriverSiPolicy.p7b, the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file, with drivers at risk of BYOVD (Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver) attacks. BYOVD involves abusing a signed but vulnerable driver to obtain powerful kernel-level access. Blocking known vulnerable drivers is one defensive measure, not complete protection against driver-based attacks. Microsoft’s announcement did not enumerate the newly blocked drivers. - Product activation: Added product-activation phone numbers for several regions; the announcement did not specify which regions.
Rollout and availability
This build was offered to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11 version 23H2, not released as a normal stable-channel update. Microsoft separated changes that were gradually rolling out—associated with the option to get the latest updates as soon as they are available—from changes rolling out more broadly to Beta Channel users. As a result, two PCs on the same build could show different feature availability.

For the Windows 11 Insider experience of that period, the general route was Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program: configure or join the program if eligible, choose Beta Channel, enable the latest-updates option if available, then check for updates and restart if prompted. The exact labels and screens can differ in later Windows releases. To check an installed build, run winver or open Settings > System > About.
Why a feature or fix may not appear
- A feature is missing: It may have been in gradual rollout, not yet enabled for the device, dependent on hardware or software conditions, or changed in a later flight. Installation alone did not guarantee immediate access.
- Dynamic Lighting controls are disabled: This is expected when Windows detects no compatible Dynamic Lighting device; the build explicitly added that empty-device state.
- The Copilot key will not launch a chosen app: Only apps opted into the Copilot-key experience were eligible. It was not a general-purpose remapper.
- A listed fix did not resolve an issue: Each fix addressed a stated scenario. For example, the Bluetooth item concerns a memory-leak-related application hang, while the controller fix concerns Xbox 360 or Bluetooth input in WebView2 applications.
Microsoft cautioned that Insider features can change, be removed or replaced, or never ship outside the program; some features might also be incompletely localized. Avoid undocumented feature-enabling workarounds unless you have a trustworthy, separately verified reason to use them.

Do nearby October 2024 features belong to this build?
Not every feature covered in October Beta Channel reporting shipped in 22635.4435. Microsoft’s nearby announcements place local-file sharing in Build 22635.4367 and Snipping Tool’s “Copy as table” feature in Build 22635.4371. Those features should not be attributed to this build. Should you install Build 22635.4435?
For someone already testing Beta Channel builds, this release was worth considering if they needed to exercise jump-list elevation or Dynamic Lighting, or were investigating one of its specifically listed fixes. It was also relevant to IT teams testing Windows Hello for Business, Performance Monitor, or the described virtual-switch configuration.
It was a poor fit for a production or mission-critical PC, a user who needs predictable peripheral and application compatibility, or anyone seeking a stable Windows feature update. Preview builds can introduce new problems, and the presence of a fix in a changelog does not guarantee it addresses every similar symptom.

Before installing any Insider preview, back up important data and keep a recovery route available. Do not rely on a preview build as the only operating system for essential work. If a build causes trouble, available recovery or rollback choices depend on the device state and rollback window; some recovery methods may remove apps or data. Since 22635.4435 is a historical 2024 build, most non-Insiders have no practical reason to seek out this specific flight now.
