Windows 11 Insider Build 26100.2448 was a Release Preview build for Windows 11 version 24H2, announced on November 14, 2024. It was an incremental update—not a new Windows edition or a major feature release—with improvements to Start, File Explorer, accessibility, touchscreen controls, Task Manager, Dynamic Lighting, Windows Search, and system reliability.
Important: this is now a historical build. Microsoft later documented the associated KB5046740 preview update as OS Build 26100.2454 on November 21, 2024. Do not seek out Build 26100.2448 as a current Windows 11 installation in 2026.

Microsoft’s Insider announcement called the release Build 26100.2448 and identified it as KB5046740. The later Microsoft Support entry used the same KB number but listed OS Build 26100.2454. That is why contemporary coverage may show both numbers; they should not automatically be treated as two unrelated feature releases.
What changed for everyday users?
Start-menu jump lists
Right-clicking a pinned app in Start can show that app’s supported jump-list actions. Depending on the application, this can provide quick access to recent files, common tasks, or specific destinations without first opening the app.

This was part of Microsoft’s gradual rollout, and jump lists also depend on application support. Two PCs on the same build could therefore behave differently.
Share files with Android through File Explorer
Windows added the ability to share content to an Android device from File Explorer or the desktop context menu. The feature relies on Phone Link: it is not a generic Bluetooth-sharing system or unrestricted Android file transfer.
To use it, Phone Link must be installed and configured, and device, account, permission, and connectivity support may affect availability.
Disable touchscreen edge gestures
On touchscreen PCs, a new control lets users disable left- or right-edge screen gestures. The setting is located at:
Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touch
This can prevent accidental swipes and reduce conflicts with full-screen applications or desktop workflows. It only applies to devices with touchscreen support.

Task Manager gets small but useful refinements
Task Manager added dark-mode and text-scaling support for the Disconnect and Logoff dialogs. Its Performance section also began showing disk-type information, making it easier to distinguish storage such as SSDs and hard disks when investigating performance.
Dynamic Lighting controls become clearer
For compatible RGB devices, Dynamic Lighting now shows a placeholder when no supported hardware is connected and disables brightness and effects controls when there is nothing to control. Microsoft also added more direction choices for the Wave effect and a Forward direction for Gradient.
These changes did not make every RGB keyboard, mouse, or accessory compatible. Hardware must support Windows Dynamic Lighting. Vendor applications may still offer device-specific effects, profiles, or controls that Windows does not provide. Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting documentation explains the hardware standard.
Accessibility, speech, and input changes
Narrator scan-mode commands
Narrator gained two scan-mode commands:
- N: skip past links to the text following a link.
- L: jump to lists.
To try them, turn on Narrator with Windows key + Ctrl + Enter, enable scan mode with Caps Lock + Spacebar, then use N or L while navigating supported pages or documents.
Speech and language resources
Microsoft improved speech-to-text and text-to-speech experiences involving Narrator, Voice Access, Live Captions, Live Translation, and voice typing. Some users could be asked to update language files through the Microsoft Store.

Those language resources are separate from the core operating-system installation. A language-file prompt does not necessarily indicate that Windows Update failed.

Chinese and Japanese IME behavior
When the relevant Chinese or Japanese input method toolbar is active, it hides while an application is in full-screen mode. This reduces visual clutter in games, presentations, media players, and other full-screen software. The change does not apply universally to every keyboard layout.
Personalization wording and administrator shortcut
“Tailored Experiences” becomes “Personalized offers”
Microsoft renamed Tailored Experiences to Personalized offers in the out-of-box experience. Related controls are associated with the Recommendations and offers area under:
Settings → Privacy & security
The wording concerns using device-related information to improve Windows or provide personalized recommendations. It should not be interpreted as a single switch that disables all Microsoft personalization, advertising, telemetry, or diagnostic data collection.
Launch jump-list items with elevation
Holding Shift + Ctrl while clicking a jump-list item opens that item with administrator privileges when the application and action support elevation. User Account Control is not bypassed; Windows may still display a UAC prompt.

The shortcut applies to jump-list items, not every taskbar click or shortcut.
Security and reliability improvements
Windows Search IFilters run in LPACs
Windows Search began running IFilters in Less Privileged App Containers, or LPACs. These containers deny permissions by default and restrict access to resources required by the process.
The purpose is security hardening: if a search-filter process is compromised, its access and potential impact should be more limited. This is not a guarantee that every Search vulnerability is eliminated, nor is it an end-user performance feature.
Important fixes included in the update
Servicing, PowerShell, and Windows Update
- DISM’s
StartComponentCleanuptask could stop at 71% with error6842. Get-WindowsCapabilityin PowerShell could fail until the PC was restarted.- Windows Update could return error
0x800f0905.
Display and multi-monitor behavior
- Windows could move application windows into a monitor corner after sleep on multi-monitor systems.
- Mica effects could render incorrectly with slideshow backgrounds.
- Some secondary displays could experience lag or screen tearing when a window was full-screen.
File Explorer and the taskbar
- Excessive spacing in File Explorer’s left navigation pane was corrected.
- The search box could be cut off when the window was small.
- The See more menu could expand upward and extend off-screen.
- Clipboard history could appear empty even when enabled and populated. Open it with Windows key + V.
- With automatic taskbar hiding enabled, the search box could appear as an icon instead of a search box.
Graphics, media, gaming, and development
- GDI+ image properties could not always be retrieved.
- GDI+ image scaling could be incorrect when re-encoding images.
- RAW images could display in the wrong orientation.
- An application could stop responding while exporting chart objects to PDF or XLSX.
- A mouse could become unlocked from a game window after opening and closing Xbox Game Bar on a multi-monitor system.
- Windows Subsystem for Linux could stop working or fail to start.
- Task Manager’s Users page could stop responding during keyboard use.
Why some users did not see every feature
Microsoft divided the release notes into gradual-rollout and normal-rollout changes. Gradual rollout means the build number alone does not guarantee that a feature is enabled.

Availability could also depend on touchscreen hardware, compatible RGB peripherals, Phone Link configuration, Android-device support, Chinese or Japanese IMEs, language resources, Narrator context, WSL configuration, or application behavior. Windows 11 24H2 being installed is not sufficient to make every item visible.

How to identify the build
Use the following steps on a Windows 11 PC:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
winverand press Enter. - Check the Windows version and OS build shown in the dialog.
You can also open Settings → System → About and inspect Windows specifications. To check the update record, open Settings → Windows Update → Update history and search for KB5046740.
“Windows 11 24H2” alone does not identify this particular update. Compare both the OS build and KB number.
Should you install Build 26100.2448?
In November 2024: Release Preview was Microsoft’s least experimental Insider channel, but it was still preview software. It suited enthusiasts, testers, and organizations validating upcoming Windows changes—not systems where maximum stability was essential.
In 2026: do not install or hunt for this superseded 2024 build merely because it contains these changes. Use the current supported Windows 11 servicing channel instead. The only sensible reasons to reference 26100.2448 now are historical research, troubleshooting an old Insider environment, or compatibility testing that specifically requires that build.
If an old Insider installation has problems, restart first, review Settings → Windows Update → Update history, and report reproducible issues through Feedback Hub. Back up important data before applying preview software or changing Insider channels. If Windows becomes unusable, use the recovery or rollback options that are available on that installation; the original announcement did not define a universal rollback procedure.
What Build 26100.2448 was—and was not
This was a Windows 11 24H2 Release Preview update focused on polish: better jump-list access, Android sharing through Phone Link, touchscreen controls, clearer Dynamic Lighting behavior, Narrator navigation, search hardening, and a broad set of fixes.
It was not Windows 11 25H2, a new major edition, or an AI-focused feature showcase. The official notes do not establish that it introduced Copilot, Recall, or another headline AI capability. Its significance is practical rather than transformational.
