Microsoft released KB5121767 on July 18, 2026, to address a compatibility issue affecting a limited number of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 devices using certain Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) drivers. If your Dell PC shows an IPF warning in Device Manager and Windows Update offers KB5121767, install it and restart. This is not a fix every Dell owner needs to force onto their PC: Microsoft says unaffected devices need no special action.
Shutdown trouble can also have a separate cause: Dell Encryption v11.10 or earlier may interfere with shutdown and hibernation on Windows 11 24H2. That issue has a different fix.
What happened to some Dell PCs?
The July 2026 issue was a compatibility problem, not a general Windows 11 24H2 shutdown failure. Microsoft says an incompatibility between the Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface and certain Intel IPF drivers could affect system performance, power consumption, or behavior. Some affected devices were Dell PCs.

Other problems can produce similar signs.

Check whether your Dell PC may be affected
The most useful diagnostic clue in Dell’s guidance is a yellow warning icon beside the Intel IPF component. Check it alongside your update history and symptoms; having installed a listed KB, by itself, does not establish that your PC is affected.
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand System devices.
- Find Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant and check for a yellow warning icon.
Next, open Settings → Windows Update → Update history and look for KB5095093 or KB5101650. To see your Windows release and build, press Windows + R, enter winver, and press Enter.

There is no definitive model list here that proves every listed Dell model was hit. Windows version, update history, the IPF warning, and whether Windows Update offers the fix are more useful checks than the Dell name alone.
Install KB5121767 if it is offered for an affected PC
- Save your open work. If you are using a laptop, connect it to power.
- Open Settings → Windows Update and select Check for updates.
- If KB5121767 is offered, choose Download & install.
- Restart when prompted.
- Run
winveragain to check the installed build.
Dell’s guidance says the expected build is 26200.8894 or newer on one release branch, or 26100.8894 or newer on the other. Which number applies depends on the Windows release branch. You can compare the result with Dell’s KB5095093 and IPF warning guidance.

If Windows Update does not offer KB5121767, do not force-install it solely because the computer is a Dell, runs 24H2, or has had an unrelated shutdown problem. The update may already be installed, the device may not be affected, or update availability may be managed by an organization. Check winver and Update history first. On a work-managed PC, ask your IT administrator; business deployments may be controlled through Windows Update for Business, WSUS, Intune, or another management system.

A different cause: Dell Encryption and shutdown or hibernation
Dell documents a separate Windows 11 24H2 issue: Dell Encryption v11.10 and earlier can make shutdown or hibernation behave as though the PC is going to sleep. It is not the Intel IPF issue, and KB5121767 should not be treated as its fix.

If Dell Encryption is installed, check its version and update to v11.10.1 or later. Dell lists disabling Windows Fast Startup as a workaround if an update is not yet possible. To turn it off:
- Open Control Panel and switch to Icons view.
- Choose Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.
- Select Change settings that are currently unavailable and approve the User Account Control prompt if it appears.
- Clear Turn on fast startup, then save the change.
Fast Startup can affect boot time, so treat this as a workaround rather than a substitute for updating Dell Encryption. See Dell’s article on Dell Encryption and Windows 11 24H2 shutdown and hibernation.
If shutdown problems continue after the update
First confirm that KB5121767 appears in Update history and that winver shows the expected build or a newer one. Restart once more if the installation has just completed, then check whether the IPF warning remains in Device Manager.

If the warning or symptoms persist, install applicable BIOS, firmware, and driver updates from Dell’s official support tools or your PC’s support page. You can also temporarily disconnect a USB-C dock or other peripheral to check whether the behavior changes. These are diagnostic steps, not confirmed fixes for the IPF issue.
When contacting Dell Support, note the exact PC model, BIOS version, Windows build, installed KB numbers, and Device Manager status. If there is no IPF warning and Dell Encryption is not installed, investigate other causes such as drivers, firmware, power settings, Fast Startup, third-party security software, a dock, overheating, or battery faults. Microsoft has also investigated an unrelated issue reported around Patch Tuesday and said it was not caused by current or previous monthly Windows updates—a reminder that a problem appearing after an update is not proof the update caused it.
