Windows 10 build 19043.1200 was a Release Preview build for Windows 10 version 21H1, announced by Microsoft on August 18, 2021, and associated with KB5005101. It was a quality and reliability update—not a major feature release—and included fixes for issues involving HDR displays, docking stations, Bluetooth and USB audio, touch input, language input, OneDrive, storage, and enterprise management. Microsoft later documented KB5005101 as build 19043.1202 in a September 1, 2021 Preview release, so the two build numbers refer to different stages of the update’s release history.
What was Windows 10 build 19043.1200?
The number 19043 identifies Windows 10 version 21H1; .1200 identifies a particular operating-system build. Microsoft announced build 19043.1200 for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on August 18, 2021. The announcement associated it with KB5005101.
Release Preview is an Insider channel for previewing and validating updates before broader release. Thus, 19043.1200 was an official Microsoft build, but its initial announcement was not a notice that every Windows 10 user should install a normal production update. The package focused on quality, reliability, compatibility, and administration; it did not introduce a major redesign or a broad set of consumer-facing Windows features.
19043.1200 vs. 19043.1202
The build numbers differ because Microsoft documented the update at different points in its release history:

The September 1 KB5005101 support article lists builds 19041.1202, 19042.1202, and 19043.1202 for Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1 respectively. It describes the 21H1 release as a non-security Preview update. In short, 19043.1200 is the earlier Insider announcement; 19043.1202 is the later build number in Microsoft’s support documentation. Do not treat the numbers as interchangeable or assume 19043.1200 is the current package to seek out.
Fixes and improvements in the Release Preview build
Microsoft’s August announcement listed fixes across consumer hardware, Windows components, and enterprise workflows. The items below describe issues the build was intended to address; they are not a guarantee that every similar problem on every device would be resolved.
Displays, graphics, docking, and touch
- Addressed HDR monitor brightness resetting for standard dynamic range (SDR) content after a restart or remote reconnection.
- Fixed a black-screen issue affecting some external monitors connected through certain docking hardware after the PC resumed from hibernation.
- Addressed touchpad and touchscreen failures that could occur when more fingers were added during an active gesture.
- Fixed image-resizing problems that could cause flicker and leave line artifacts behind.
- Addressed problems minimizing applications that used unthemed windows.
Bluetooth and USB audio
- Fixed a rare Bluetooth headset issue in which voice calls worked but music playback using the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) did not.
- Addressed USB audio headset failures on laptops that supported USB audio offload when certain third-party audio drivers were installed.
Input methods and Office
- Fixed a Chinese IME issue that could prevent typing in the username field during Windows’ out-of-box experience.
- Addressed copy-and-paste failures involving text boxes in Office 365 applications while an input method editor (IME) was active.
- Fixed incorrect Japanese Furigana results after canceling a reconversion.
- Addressed the IME toolbar remaining visible after a RemoteApp session closed.
OneDrive and local accounts
- Fixed a problem in which OneDrive’s Always keep on this device setting could revert to Known folders only after Windows updates.
- Addressed a specific in-place-upgrade scenario in which duplicate built-in local accounts, such as Administrator or Guest, could appear if those accounts had previously been renamed. The Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in could also appear blank in this scenario.
Microsoft noted that removal of duplicate accounts was recorded as Directory-Services-SAM event ID 16986 in the System event log. This was a specific upgrade-related issue, not a general behavior affecting every Windows installation.
Storage, file migration, and server interoperability
- Fixed file migration between DFS paths on different volumes when using PowerShell’s
Move-Item. - Addressed
robocopyoperations using the backup option/Bin particular scenarios involving tiered Azure File Sync or Cloud Files data. This was a targeted fix, not a general overhaul of Robocopy. - Fixed transfer-validation failures involving sources running Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012.
- Addressed a system crash that could occur after the deduplication filter detected damage in a reparse point.
- Fixed stop error

Management, reliability, and security-related components
- Improved tracking of Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) activation failures.
- Fixed a WinRM threading issue that could cause the service to stop under high load.
- Addressed a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider-host crash related to Desired State Configuration and a separate problem writing to the WMI repository after low memory.
- Fixed
ShellHWDetectionfailing to start on Privileged Access Workstation devices, which could interfere with BitLocker management. - Addressed Code Integrity policies incorrectly handling case-sensitive Package Family Name rules.
- Fixed an issue involving Windows Defender Exploit Protection that could prevent some Microsoft Office applications from working on systems with certain processors.
- Expanded the LSA Lookup Cache to improve lookup performance in high-volume scenarios.
- Fixed a VBScript-related memory leak involving nested classes and removed queries to OneSettings APIs associated with the obsolete Storage Health feature.
Although some fixes involved security-related components, Microsoft described the later KB5005101 release as a non-security Preview update. That label should not be confused with a claim that every individual fix was unrelated to security.
What mattered most to IT administrators?
Two additions were especially relevant to managed devices. Microsoft announced more than 1,400 new mobile-device-management policies, including ADMX-backed policies for areas such as application compatibility, event forwarding, servicing, and Task Scheduler. Microsoft said the Microsoft Endpoint Manager Settings Catalog would support configuring them beginning in September 2021.
The build also added a Target Product Version policy. Administrators could use it to specify the Windows product to which devices should migrate or remain—for example, Windows 10 or Windows 11. This was an administrative control, not a new feature for ordinary users. The WMI, WinRM, BitLocker-management, Code Integrity, DFS, Robocopy, and account-migration fixes likewise mattered most in managed or specialized environments. Organizations should validate policy and storage changes in a pilot group before wider deployment.

Known issue Microsoft listed
For this Release Preview build, Microsoft listed a case in which the Windows Update settings page could hang after an optional update had downloaded. Its suggested workaround was simple: close the Windows Update page and reopen it. This was the issue Microsoft documented at that stage, not proof that no other driver, app, or device-specific problems existed.
How to check your Windows build
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
winverand press Enter. - Check the Windows version and OS build shown in the dialog.
You can also open Settings → System → About and look under Windows specifications for the version and OS build. Labels and layout can vary by Windows installation.
- Version 21H1, build 19043.1200: matches the historical Release Preview build.
- Version 21H1, build 19043.1202: matches the later KB5005101 Preview build documented by Microsoft.
- A higher 19043 build: indicates later servicing on Windows 10 21H1; the relevant fixes may already be included in subsequent updates.
- Build 19041 or 19042: indicates Windows 10 version 2004 or 20H2, not 21H1, despite the shared servicing base.
- Build 19044 or 19045: indicates a later Windows 10 feature version; consult that version’s own update history.
Microsoft’s Windows 10 update history explains the shared core and system files used by several Windows 10 versions, while listing version-specific builds and updates separately.
Should you install build 19043.1200?
No one should seek out this exact old preview build as a current general-purpose update. Its value was in testing the fixes and management changes before broader servicing, and Microsoft later documented the related KB5005101 preview as 19043.1202. Many Windows 10 21H1 devices that continued receiving updates would have moved to higher builds.
- Insiders and testers at the time: It could be useful for validating fixes for affected devices or applications.
- Everyday users: There is little reason to hunt for a historical preview package instead of using the supported update path available for the device.
- IT teams: Test relevant policy, backup, file-migration, BitLocker, and remote-management workflows on noncritical pilot devices before production rollout.
Microsoft’s original installation route was through the Windows Insider Program’s Release Preview Channel and Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates. Those steps describe how the build was offered during its testing period; they do not mean the exact historical build remains available as a normal download today. Avoid unofficial third-party KB or ISO mirrors. If an update installation fails, restart, disconnect unnecessary USB devices, check available disk space, use the Windows Update troubleshooter if present, and review View update history for the exact error. Record the error code before attempting more invasive repairs.

Do not uninstall a preview update merely because it was a preview. Consider removal only if a reproducible issue began immediately after installation and ordinary troubleshooting has not resolved it. Before making changes, record the build, update history, error messages, and affected hardware or software.
