Windows 10 Build 18329 was a genuine Microsoft Insider Preview build released to the Fast ring on February 1, 2019, during the 19H1 development cycle. It added Top apps to Search Home and experimental support for launching classic desktop apps in Windows Mixed Reality. It was a prerelease test flight, not a stable Windows release, and it is not a suitable or supported installation for a modern PC.
What Windows 10 Build 18329 was
Microsoft announced Build 18329 as a Windows 10 Insider Preview for PCs in the Fast ring. Its full build identifier was in the 10.0.18329 family. “18329” is a build number, not a Windows 10 edition or feature-version name. The build was intended for testing unfinished changes and sending feedback, rather than as a long-term operating system. Microsoft’s February 1, 2019 announcement identifies the flight as part of 19H1.
How the names fit together
- Windows 10 is the operating-system family.
- 19H1 was the development-cycle label for the 2019 feature release.
- Build 18329 was one particular prerelease Insider flight within that cycle.
- Version 1903 was the later public Windows 10 feature release associated with 19H1—not another name for Build 18329.
Microsoft’s lifecycle listing gives May 21, 2019, as the start date for Windows 10 version 1903 and December 8, 2020, as its end date for the listed Home and Pro lifecycle entry. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 Home and Pro lifecycle listing.
Release date and availability
Microsoft announced the build on February 1, 2019, for Windows Insiders using the Fast ring. Access depended on Insider enrollment and ring configuration; it was not a general public Windows release. Its original rollout also excluded some combinations of edition and language. Microsoft named exclusions involving Home, Home N, Pro, and Pro N editions and languages including Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Serbian Latin, Thai, Ukrainian, Canadian French, Japanese, Korean, and Dutch. Availability depended on the particular edition-language combination, not language alone. The announcement contains the original list and qualifications.

What Build 18329 added
Top apps in Search Home
Search Home gained a Top apps section intended to make frequently used applications easier to launch without first typing a query. Microsoft said the feature was being rolled out server-side. As a result, installing the flight did not guarantee that every Insider would see it immediately. This was a change to the Search interface, not a new application-launching system.
Classic desktop apps in Windows Mixed Reality
The build let users launch traditional Win32 desktop applications from the Windows Mixed Reality environment, alongside Store apps. Microsoft gave Spotify, Paint.NET, and Visual Studio Code as examples. The applications were not rewritten as immersive software; they could be opened from the Mixed Reality shell, and Microsoft described the feature as still in development.

Fixes Microsoft listed for the flight
Microsoft described the following as fixes in Build 18329. They were claims about this particular flight, not a guarantee that every underlying issue was permanently resolved.
- Application performance: corrected an operating-system suspension behavior that could cause long launch times for many Win32 applications.
- Accessibility: addressed Narrator and screen-reader problems on Windows Insider settings pages.
- Graphics and video: fixed Desktop Window Manager crashes involving Office or video playback on systems with Multiplane Overlay Support, video turning black after device rotation, and green-screen crashes involving an Xbox controller.
- USB and input: addressed USB mice, keyboards, and other devices failing after updates.
- Regional settings: fixed
intl.cplhanging while copying settings. - Networking and display: addressed Microsoft Edge being unable to access local IP addresses and failure to extend a display to a Miracast-connected second screen.
- Notepad: fixed the Find dialog unexpectedly reusing a previous search query.
- Remote display configurations: addressed black screens involving Remote Desktop, DisplayLink, or Miracast with some AMD or Nvidia driver configurations.
Known issues that made it risky for everyday use
Microsoft’s announcement documented a broad set of unresolved problems. The practical consequence column describes why each mattered; it does not imply that every system encountered the issue.

| Reset this PC with “Keep my files” could require an extra reboot when Reserved Storage was enabled. | Reset could take an additional restart. |
| Some Realtek SD-card readers could fail. | SD-card access could be unavailable. |
| Narrator verbosity settings could be missing or empty, and two Narrator voices could speak after an upgrade. | Screen-reader settings or spoken output could be confusing or impaired. |
| Windows Sandbox could open to a black screen for some users. | The sandbox environment might not be usable. |
| Taskbar icons could be blank or fail to load. | Taskbar shortcuts could be difficult to identify. |
| Malwarebytes Premium real-time protection options might fail to enable. | A security product’s real-time protection could be unavailable. |
| Unzipping files could produce errors. | Archive extraction could fail. |
| The brightness slider might not work. | Display brightness might not be adjustable through that control. |
| The Color filters page could crash Settings. | Changing those accessibility settings could be blocked by a Settings crash. |
These issues are especially relevant to systems used for gaming, accessibility, graphics, remote display, or security-sensitive work. The full list is in Microsoft’s release announcement.
Can you install Build 18329 today?
Microsoft distributed it to eligible Fast-ring Insiders in 2019. That historical distribution does not make it a current supported installation image or mean Windows Update will offer it now. An archived ISO or a third-party download claiming to contain the build is not, by itself, proof of authenticity. Avoid unofficial images, activation services, and bundled driver downloads.

As of 2026, Windows 10’s general support ended on October 14, 2025. That date applies to ordinary Windows 10 support; certain LTSC editions and Extended Security Updates arrangements have separate eligibility and terms. Build 18329 was already an obsolete prerelease flight, rather than a supported Windows 10 release. Microsoft’s current guidance discusses the end of support and transition options at Windows 10 support has ended.
When a historical installation might make sense
A controlled installation may be useful for reproducing a 19H1-era bug, studying Windows Insider history, or testing software behavior from that period. Use a disposable machine or isolated virtual machine where practical; driver, activation, Store, update, and network behavior may differ from the original test environment. Keep it away from sensitive networks and confidential work.

- Systems that depend on Creative X-Fi audio, accessibility features, Miracast, DisplayLink, or unusual graphics configurations.
How to check whether a PC is running Build 18329
You do not need to install or upgrade anything just to identify the current build. Use one of these methods:
- Press Windows key + R, type
winver, and press Enter. Check the version dialog for the build number. - Or open Settings > System > About and look under Windows specifications for OS build.
- From Command Prompt, run
systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name" /C:"OS Version". - From PowerShell, run
Get-ComputerInfo | Select-Object WindowsProductName, WindowsVersion, OsBuildNumber.
The expected identifier is 18329, generally shown as part of the 10.0.18329 build family. The exact fields displayed can vary with Windows edition and shell version.
What to do if a PC is still on this build
- Back up personal files and record the installed edition and activation state before changing the system.
- Check Windows 11 compatibility using Microsoft’s current guidance and compatibility tools. If eligible, move to a supported Windows release rather than keeping an obsolete Insider flight.
- If Windows 11 is not an option, check whether the installed Windows 10 edition and device qualify for a current Extended Security Updates program. ESU terms vary, and Build 18329 is not the normal ESU target; eligible Windows 10 configurations generally need version 22H2.
- For a lab machine, isolate it from sensitive networks and avoid using it for confidential work.
- If an upgrade fails, use Microsoft installation or recovery media, or restore a known-good system image or virtual-machine snapshot. Before a clean install, confirm that backups, license, and activation requirements are addressed.
If the hardware cannot run a supported operating system, replacing the machine is safer than relying on unsupported installation workarounds. Windows 10 LTSC releases have separate support lifecycles, so their status should be checked for the specific edition rather than inferred from ordinary Home or Pro support dates. Microsoft explains Windows 10 end-of-support distinctions.
