Google began rolling out the June 2024 Pixel update on June 11, but some Verizon and T-Mobile customers were still waiting days later. That delay matched Google’s stated phased rollout, which varied by carrier and device; it was not evidence that every phone on either network was defective or that either carrier had blocked the update. The rollout later reached Verizon users and, by June 24, T-Mobile and Google Fi customers as well.
What was delayed—and when
The news concerned the June 2024 Pixel update, released alongside Android 14 QPR3—not a current Pixel rollout. It combined the monthly Android security and system update with the June Pixel Feature Drop, though some features could also depend on device, region, language, carrier, or separate app updates.
Google announced the update on June 11 and said delivery would happen in phases. Its notice specifically cautioned that software for some U.S. carriers would start the following week. The global build listed for the supported devices was AP2A.240605.024. Some Verizon users began receiving that build as reports of the delay emerged on June 19. T-Mobile reports were initially sparse; by June 24, coverage reported rollout to T-Mobile customers, including Google Fi subscribers. Google did not publicly confirm the precise internal reason for the staggered carrier timing. Google’s update announcement and its Feature Drop notice describe the rollout caveats.
Google Fi warrants a distinction: the initial reporting did not establish that Fi customers were delayed, despite Fi’s use of T-Mobile’s network. Later reporting said the update was rolling out to both T-Mobile and Google Fi. Network use does not, by itself, establish identical software-distribution timing.

Which Pixels were included?
Google’s global-build list covered the Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a. Being on the list meant the device was in scope, not that every model or carrier would receive the update on the same day.
What the update brought
The system-update changelog included fixes and improvements for battery and charging stability, Bluetooth LE Audio, astrophotography and camera stability, display and graphics stability, device setup, network connections, navigation-bar behavior, home- and lock-screen transitions, and general system and interface performance. The Feature Drop also added or expanded Pixel capabilities, including Gemini Nano as a developer option on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a. Feature availability varied, so installing the system update did not guarantee that every announced feature would appear on every Pixel. Some app-based capabilities can arrive separately through Google Play rather than in the carrier-delivered system update.
Why a released update may not appear immediately
Google distributes Pixel updates in phases, with timing that can depend on both carrier and device. That makes a gap between the announcement and an individual phone’s update prompt normal. The evidence supports saying that some Verizon and T-Mobile customers waited longer; it does not establish that either carrier blocked the update for all its Pixel users or explain the exact cause of the delay.
How to check a Pixel for an update
- Connect to Wi-Fi and charge the phone. Google recommends at least 75% battery before installing an update.
- Open Settings → System → Software updates (on some versions, the option is labeled System update).
- Follow the prompts if an update is offered. To check the installed Android version, build, and security-update status, open Settings → About phone → Android version.
Google’s update instructions explain the check and installation process. If the update is not offered during a phased rollout, restart the phone and check again later. Confirm that the phone is running supported, unmodified software and has enough free storage. A factory reset is not a sensible first response to a delayed OTA. Google notes that updates can take weeks to reach all devices; seek carrier or Google support if the device remains outside the rollout window or displays a specific installation error. Should you install the update manually?
For most people, waiting for the normal over-the-air update is the simplest, lowest-risk choice. An advanced user who needs the update sooner can consult Google’s official full OTA image repository. Google says full OTA packages can update or restore original firmware and generally avoid the data wipe and bootloader-unlock requirements associated with factory-image flashing. That does not make manual installation risk-free.

Before proceeding, verify the exact Pixel model and package, back up important data, and use Google’s repository and documentation. Do not confuse a full OTA package with a factory image. If the phone is rooted, modified, carrier-locked, or running a nonstandard build—or you are unsure how to recover from a failed installation—wait for the regular OTA or get qualified help instead. Sideloading software also does not SIM-unlock a phone or guarantee compatibility with another carrier; Google explains those are separate matters in its carrier and SIM-unlock guidance.

The June 2024 delay was a temporary, carrier- and device-dependent rollout issue reported by some Verizon and T-Mobile Pixel owners. Verizon distribution began for some users around June 19, and T-Mobile and Google Fi availability was reported by June 24. If you are reading this as a historical report, the event is over; if your phone is missing a different update, check its current rollout details rather than treating this 2024 episode as evidence of a present-day carrier problem.
