The right fix depends on where your Logitech racing wheel stops working. If it will not power on or calibrate, check power and USB first. If Windows detects it but a game does not, focus on the game’s compatibility and controls. If steering works but pedals or force feedback do not, troubleshoot those features separately.
Use the checks below in order: confirm the model and platform, test the connection, then compare what Logitech G HUB, Windows, and the game can see. That narrows the cause without jumping straight to risky Registry changes or buying a replacement.
First, identify the wheel and platform
Logitech racing wheels that look similar are not necessarily interchangeable across consoles:
- G29: for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.
- G920: for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
- G923: sold in separate PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions. Check the exact version, not just the model number.
- G27: an older model that may need legacy Logitech Gaming Software rather than G HUB.
- G PRO Racing Wheel: also sold in platform-specific versions.
Check the label on the wheel or its packaging and set any platform selector to the correct position before connecting it. A G29 is not an Xbox wheel, and a G920 is not a PlayStation wheel. Logitech’s product information lists the G29 and G920 platform support; the G923 page covers its variants.

Start with power and a direct USB connection
- Disconnect the wheel’s USB cable from the computer or console.
- Check that the power adapter is firmly connected to the wheel base and a working wall outlet. Check the cable and connectors for visible damage.
- Reconnect the wheel’s power, then connect USB directly to the computer or console. On a desktop PC, try a rear motherboard USB port; on a laptop, use a built-in port.
- For the initial test, avoid a USB hub, dock, monitor port, or extension cable.
- Watch what the wheel does when connected. Many models perform a startup calibration movement, though exact behavior can vary. If there is no sign of power or calibration, keep investigating power and connection before changing game settings.
If possible, test another direct USB port and another compatible computer or console. A wheel that works on another device points toward the original device’s USB, driver, or software setup rather than a failed wheel.
Check whether G HUB detects the wheel
On a PC, open or install Logitech G HUB for supported modern wheels. Confirm that the wheel appears as a device, then turn the wheel, press buttons, and operate each pedal. If G HUB displays live input, the wheel is communicating with Logitech’s software.
If G HUB does not show the wheel:
- Reconnect it directly to another USB port and restart the PC.
- Close and reopen G HUB if it is stuck loading or showing no device.
- Check whether your particular model uses G HUB. The older G27 may require legacy Logitech Gaming Software.
- Reinstall or update the supported Logitech software, then reboot and test again.
If G HUB offers a firmware update for the wheel, follow its prompts. Logitech says its separate Firmware Update Tool is no longer maintained; do not treat that standalone utility as the default repair route.

Test the wheel in Windows, outside the game
Windows has a built-in controller test. Press Windows key + R, type joy.cpl, and press Enter. Select the Logitech wheel, choose Properties, and use the Test tab. Turn the wheel, press buttons, and operate the pedals. This shows whether Windows receives the inputs independently of a game.

Logitech’s connection troubleshooting guide also recommends validating the wheel in Windows’ controller panel.
If Windows sees the wheel but a game does not
A wheel can work in Windows and still fail in a particular title. The game may not support that model, may require manual axis binding, or may support steering without supporting the clutch or optional shifter. Check the game’s controller settings and Logitech’s G29, G920, and G923 compatibility list. Also check the game publisher’s own support information, especially after a game update.

Try this order:
- Connect the wheel and confirm it works in G HUB or
joy.cpl. - Start the game only after the wheel is connected and recognized.
- Open the game’s controls or input settings. Select the wheel if the game offers a device choice, then bind steering, throttle, brake, and buttons manually if needed.
- Check whether the game exposes a relevant Steam Input setting. Adjust it only for that title if needed; there is no universal Steam Input switch that fixes every wheel.
- Test a second compatible racing game. If the wheel works there, the original game’s support or profile is the likely issue.
Do not rely on old instructions to make Steam detect the wheel through a general controller-detection workflow. Logitech’s troubleshooting page notes that its former Steam detection step is no longer applicable. Steam’s own wheel troubleshooting guidance points users to Windows Game Controllers and the game’s recognition of the device.

If pedals, clutch, shifter, or buttons fail
If steering responds but one or more pedals do not, check that the pedal cable is firmly connected to the wheel base. Test each pedal in G HUB and joy.cpl before changing game settings.
- Pedals missing only in the game: check the game’s axis mode. Some titles expect separate throttle and brake axes; others may offer combined axes. Rebind each pedal manually.
- Pedal moves the wrong way or appears pressed at rest: inspect the axis response and game binding for inversion or an incorrect assignment. Calibrate only if Windows detects the wheel but the axes are wrong or unresponsive.
- Only the clutch or shifter is missing: confirm the game and platform support that input. Accessory support is not guaranteed just because steering works.
- One pedal is intermittent everywhere: inspect the connector and cable. If it still fails in G HUB and Windows on another compatible device, hardware trouble becomes more likely.
Do not assume a pedal set is defective just because a game does not show the clutch. Game and platform support can differ by input.

If steering works but force feedback does not
Steering input and force feedback are separate. A wheel that turns and registers in Windows may still feel light or have no road effects because the game has force feedback turned off, set to zero, or does not support the feature you expect.
- In the game’s controls or force-feedback menu, enable force feedback and check that its strength is above zero.
- Confirm that the game supports your wheel model and the type of feedback you want.
- Restart the game after connecting the wheel if force feedback stopped after reconnecting, quitting, or switching away from the game.
The G923 adds Logitech TRUEFORCE, but advanced TRUEFORCE effects depend on game support. Lack of TRUEFORCE effects does not by itself mean ordinary steering or all force feedback should fail. See Logitech’s G923 product information for the feature details.

Use Registry repair only for a matching calibration symptom
Registry editing is an advanced, symptom-specific step—not a fix for a wheel with no power or a game that does not support the device. Consider it only if Windows detects the controller but its axes are miscalibrated or the controller Properties test page is blank, and Logitech’s documented steps match your case.

Before changing anything, confirm the exact wheel model, close G HUB and games, create a Windows restore point or export the relevant Registry key, and follow Logitech’s model-specific instructions. Its documented location is:

When hardware failure is likely
Hardware or power failure becomes more likely when the adapter and USB connection are confirmed good, the wheel remains absent from both G HUB and joy.cpl on multiple known-good connections, or it will not calibrate on another compatible device. Stop using it and seek support if you notice a burning smell, unusual motor behavior, liquid exposure, impact damage, or a connector that disconnects when moved.
Before opening the wheel base or replacing the wheel, contact Logitech support and check warranty coverage. Logitech product pages list a two-year limited hardware warranty for the G29/G920 system and G923; coverage and terms may depend on region and purchase details.

If the wheel works in Windows or another game, replacing it is unlikely to solve a title-specific compatibility problem. If it fails detection across multiple known-good connections, pursue support or warranty before buying another wheel.
