Discord voice chat works on PS5, but Discord is not a standalone app you download from the PlayStation Store. It is integrated into the console’s Game Base. To join, update your PS5, connect the right Discord and PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts, then join from Game Base or transfer a voice chat from Discord. If you are already in a PlayStation Party, leave it first: PS5 does not support being in a Discord voice chat and a PlayStation Party at the same time.
Start with those checks before changing network settings. They resolve many cases where the Discord tab, console destination, or Join button seems to be missing. PlayStation’s setup guide and Discord’s PSN connection FAQ describe the current integration.
Check these prerequisites first
- You are using a PS5. PS4 supports linking accounts for presence and activity sharing, but not the same Discord voice-chat transfer to the console.
- Your PS5 has the latest system software available. Sony changes software versions over time, so use the update offered by your console rather than relying on an old version number.
- The Discord account is linked to the same PSN account you are signed into on the PS5.
- You can access the Discord server and voice channel from Discord itself. The PS5 integration cannot bypass server roles, private-channel permissions, or bans.
- Your account’s age, region, and parental-control settings permit the feature. Availability depends on where PlayStation and Discord services are available.
- You are not currently in a PlayStation Party.
If you already linked the accounts to display PlayStation activity, that connection may not be enough for voice transfer. Some users need to unlink and reconnect to refresh authorization, especially if they did not use the PS5 Discord voice beta.
Link Discord and PSN
You can start the connection on the PS5 or in Discord. Make sure you sign in with the account pair you actually use.

From the PS5
- Press the PS button to open the Control Center.
- Select Game Base, then the Discord tab.
- Select Link Account and follow the on-screen steps.
From Discord
- Open Discord on mobile, desktop, or the web.
- Open User Settings > Connections.
- Select Add, then choose the PlayStation logo.
- Sign in to the correct PSN account and confirm the connection.
If a connection looks active but voice transfer still fails, remove the PlayStation connection in Discord and unlink Discord on the PS5 under Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services > Discord. Restart the console, reconnect the accounts, and try again.

Join Discord voice chat directly on PS5
- Press the PS button.
- Open Game Base and select Discord.
- Choose the server, then the voice channel you want.
- Select Join.
A server with an active voice channel may display member avatars beside its name. Discord voice chat is separate from a game’s built-in voice chat, so check which voice-chat card is active if you can hear one group but not another.
Transfer a voice chat from Discord to PS5
From a phone
- Join the desired voice channel in the Discord mobile app.
- Open the channel’s audio controls; on mobile, swipe up to find them.
- Select Join on PlayStation, choose the associated PS5, and select Transfer Voice if prompted.
- On the console, select the notification or open the voice-chat card in the Control Center.
From desktop or browser
- Join the voice channel in Discord.
- Open the channel options and select Transfer Voice to PlayStation.
- Choose the intended PS5 and confirm.
The destination PS5 must be associated with the same PSN account linked to Discord. To let Discord wake the console, set it up for network wake: on PS5 go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network as applicable.

Fix the problem by symptom
The Discord tab is missing from Game Base
- Confirm the console is a PS5 and install any available system-software update.
- Check that the correct Discord account is linked to the PSN profile currently signed in on the console.
- Restart the PS5 and reopen Game Base.
- Sign out and back in to Discord on your phone or computer, then unlink and reconnect the accounts if needed.
- Review parental controls and account eligibility, then check PlayStation Network status and Discord’s service status.
Privacy settings are not a universal fix for a missing voice-chat tab. PlayStation’s setting at Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customize Your Privacy Settings governs who can see online status and current game; set visibility to Anyone if you want that presence and activity to appear in Discord.
“Join on PlayStation” is missing, or the PS5 is not listed
- Confirm you are in a voice channel, not a text channel, and that you can join that channel in Discord.
- In Discord, check User Settings > Connections for the PlayStation connection.
- Check that the console is online, the PS5 is signed into the linked PSN account, and the Discord client is current.
- If you want the console to wake from Rest Mode, confirm the network-wake settings above.
- Restart Discord and the PS5. If the destination still does not appear or transfer fails, unlink on both services and reconnect.
The server or channel does not appear
First try joining it in Discord on your phone or computer. If it is missing there too, you may not be a server member, or the channel may require a role or permission. Ask a server administrator to check access. If you can join in Discord but not on PS5, reopen the client and reconnect your accounts if necessary.

The transfer fails even though the accounts look linked
Update the PS5, close Discord, and refresh the authorization on both sides: unlink Discord at Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services on PS5, remove PlayStation under User Settings > Connections in Discord, restart the console, then link again. Verify you have not switched to a different PSN profile. Avoid repeating this during a confirmed service outage; check status first.

- Open the PS5 voice-chat card and check the chat’s volume and individual member volume; confirm you have not muted everyone.
- Check the headset is connected, not physically muted, and selected as the output device under Settings > Sound > Audio Output.
- If audio failed in Discord before transfer, troubleshoot the Discord app or headset there. If it stopped after transfer, check the PS5 audio route and voice-chat card.
Other people cannot hear you
- Check the headset or controller mute switch and the mute state shown on the PS5 voice-chat card.
- Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone, select the intended microphone, and check its input level.
- Reconnect the headset and confirm the game has not switched you to its separate in-game voice chat.
You cannot join while in a PlayStation Party
This is a limitation, not necessarily a fault. Leave the PlayStation Party from its voice-chat card, then open Game Base > Discord and join the Discord channel. Discord voice chat and PlayStation Party chat are separate systems, and PS5 does not let you participate in both at once.

A child account is blocked
Do not assume every child account is either allowed or blocked. Access depends on age, location, and the family manager’s communication and user-generated-content restrictions. Ask the family manager to review the relevant parental controls. PlayStation notes that child accounts may use voice transfer when the required settings permit it.
It worked before and suddenly stopped
Check PlayStation Network status and Discord’s service-status information before unlinking accounts or changing router settings. If services are operating normally, check for a recent console or Discord update, confirm the active PSN account, and refresh the account link. If other online voice features also fail, test the PS5 connection at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection, restart the console and router, and try a wired connection or another network if possible.
PlayStation’s general Party-chat troubleshooting lists TCP ports 80, 443, 3478, 3479, and 3480, and UDP ports 3478 and 3479. Those are Party-chat guidance, not a guaranteed fix for Discord voice transfer; do not start changing router port rules unless broader PlayStation connectivity troubleshooting points that way.

- It is not a standalone PS5 app; the integration is accessed through Game Base or a transfer from Discord.
- It does not combine Discord chat with a PlayStation Party or automatically join a game’s own voice chat.
- Discord voice-chat audio is not included in PS5 captures or broadcasts.
- PS4 does not support the same Discord voice transfer to console.
When to contact support
If the issue persists after updating and reconnecting accounts, contact Discord Support for Discord-link or transfer errors, or PlayStation Support for console, PSN, or audio problems. Include the exact error, whether the problem affects every server or just one channel, your PS5 software-update status, whether you relinked, and whether PlayStation Party chat works. A screenshot of the error can also help.
