NASA selected Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot, and Andrey Fedyaev for SpaceX Crew-12. NASA announced the assignments on December 22, 2025, and the international crew later launched to the International Space Station on February 13, 2026.
The Crew-12 lineup

The crew represented three space agencies: NASA, ESA, and Roscosmos. NASA described Crew-12 as a long-duration science expedition to the ISS.
NASA Communications announced the assignments at 3:20 p.m. EST on December 22, 2025. The original plan called for launch no earlier than February 15, 2026. The mission ultimately launched earlier, at 5:15 a.m. EST on February 13, 2026.

Meet the Crew-12 crew
Jessica Meir — commander
NASA astronaut Jessica Meir returned to the ISS for her second spaceflight. She previously spent 205 days in orbit during Expeditions 61 and 62.

Meir also completed three all-woman spacewalks with Christina Koch, spending a combined 21 hours and 44 minutes outside the station. Before Crew-12, she served in NASA leadership and commercial-crew-related roles.
Jack Hathaway — pilot
Jack Hathaway was selected as part of NASA’s 2021 astronaut candidate class, making Crew-12 his first spaceflight. He is a U.S. Navy commander and test pilot.
At the time of NASA’s assignment announcement, Hathaway had more than 2,500 flight hours in 30 aircraft, more than 500 carrier-arrested landings, and 39 combat missions.

Sophie Adenot — mission specialist
Sophie Adenot joined Crew-12 as an ESA astronaut and first-time spaceflier. She is an engineer, helicopter pilot, and experimental test pilot.
NASA said Adenot had logged more than 3,000 hours flying 22 different helicopters before her assignment.
Andrey Fedyaev — mission specialist
Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev returned to the ISS for his second long-duration stay. He previously flew on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission in 2023 and spent 186 days in orbit as an Expedition 69 flight engineer.

Launch, spacecraft, and ISS arrival
Crew-12 launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 and Dragon spacecraft named Freedom from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
NASA’s launch coverage said Dragon was scheduled to dock autonomously with the space-facing port of the ISS Harmony module at approximately 3:15 p.m. EST on February 14, 2026.
Freedom had previously flown NASA’s Crew-4 and Crew-9 missions, along with the private Axiom-2 and Axiom-3 missions, according to NASA’s Crew-12 mission overview.

What Crew-12 was expected to do at the station
Crew-12’s work combined scientific research, technology demonstrations, and routine station maintenance. NASA’s prelaunch material described the mission as an approximately eight-month expedition, although that estimate should not be treated as an exact final mission duration without a later official update.
The research portfolio included:
- Studying pneumonia-causing bacteria and possible improvements to cardiovascular treatments.
- Testing on-demand generation of intravenous fluids for future space missions.
- Developing automated systems to monitor plant health.
- Examining interactions between plants and nitrogen-fixing microbes.
- Investigating how physical characteristics may affect blood flow during spaceflight.
These investigations supported both near-term health and life-support research and NASA’s longer-term plans for human missions to the Moon and Mars. Like other ISS expeditions, the work also aimed to produce benefits on Earth.

How Crew-12 fit into ISS operations
Crew-12 joined the Expedition 74 crew already aboard the station. NASA said its arrival restored the ISS to its standard seven-person complement after SpaceX Crew-11 departed on January 14, 2026.

The mission was the 12th SpaceX crew-rotation mission to the ISS under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. NASA also identifies it as the program’s 13th SpaceX Dragon flight carrying people when the Demo-2 test flight is included. Those figures use different counting methods and are not contradictory.
Why the international crew mattered
Crew-12 brought together two NASA astronauts, an ESA astronaut, and a Roscosmos cosmonaut. That composition reflects the ISS partnership framework, in which international agencies contribute crew members, expertise, and research while commercial spacecraft provide transportation under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
The lineup also combined experienced station fliers with first-time astronauts. Meir and Fedyaev had previous long-duration spaceflight experience, while Hathaway and Adenot were making their first spaceflights.

Bottom line
NASA’s Crew-12 assignment consisted of commander Jessica Meir, pilot Jack Hathaway, and mission specialists Sophie Adenot and Andrey Fedyaev. Although NASA announced the lineup in December 2025 with a February 15 launch target, the crew launched aboard Dragon Freedom on February 13, 2026, to conduct ISS research and station operations as part of Expedition 74.
