Yes, many Xbox Series X|S games support Dolby Atmos or Microsoft Spatial Sound—but there is no single, official, continuously updated list of every compatible title. Dolby’s own Xbox page currently names nine games that support both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. A 2023 technical roundup adds more titles, while an enthusiast-maintained database tracks more than 100 reported games. Treat those sources as different evidence levels, not as one definitive certification list.
Information checked against the cited sources on August 18, 2026.
Games Dolby explicitly lists
Dolby’s Xbox page identifies these games for Xbox Series X|S with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos:
| Game | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Halo Infinite | Officially listed by Dolby |
| F1 2021 | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Psychonauts 2 | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Microsoft Flight Simulator | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Ori and the Will of the Wisps | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Gears 5 | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Borderlands 3 | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Immortals Fenyx Rising | Officially listed by Dolby |
| Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 | Officially listed by Dolby |
See Dolby’s Xbox listing. Because it is a combined Vision-and-Atmos showcase, it should not be mistaken for a complete Atmos-only catalogue.

Community-tested titles
Pure Xbox describes an enthusiast spreadsheet containing more than 100 reported Atmos-compatible titles, built from testing across more than 2,000 Xbox games. Examples it highlights include Metaphor: ReFantazio, Star Wars Outlaws, NHL 25, Off The Grid and Throne and Liberty.
Use the Pure Xbox guide and its linked working spreadsheet as a research index. It covers Xbox One and Series consoles, is not Dolby certification, and may use a broader definition of Microsoft Spatial Sound. Check the live link because entries and URLs can change.

What “Atmos support” actually means
Native spatial audio
A genuinely spatial mix uses a 3D channel bed and/or positional audio objects, including elevation cues. Microsoft’s Spatial Sound documentation explains that Xbox can render this content to Dolby Atmos for home theater or Dolby Atmos for Headphones.
The Xbox output setting is not proof of a native mix
You can select Dolby Atmos output for a game that was authored in stereo, 5.1 or 7.1. The console, headset software, receiver or soundbar may encode, virtualize or upmix that signal. A receiver displaying “Atmos” therefore does not prove that the game contains native Atmos objects.
Dolby Vision is different
Vision is HDR video; Atmos is audio. A title can support either, both, or neither. Dolby’s nine-game list is specifically a both-formats list.
How to enable Atmos on Xbox Series X|S
Home theater (soundbar or AVR)
- Connect the Xbox to an Atmos-capable AVR or soundbar by HDMI, or use a TV’s compatible eARC return path.
- Press the Xbox button and open Profile & system → Settings → General → Volume & audio output.
- Under HDMI audio, select Dolby Atmos for home theater.
- Install Dolby Access if prompted.
- Confirm that the AVR/soundbar, TV, cables and firmware pass the intended audio and video modes.
Series X|S has no optical-audio setting; Microsoft documents optical output only for older Xbox hardware.

Headphones
- Install Dolby Access from the Microsoft Store.
- Connect any compatible wired or Xbox-supported wireless headset.
- Go to Settings → General → Volume & audio output.
- Under headset audio, choose Dolby Atmos for Headphones and complete the trial or activation.
Atmos for Headphones is software-rendered, so you do not need special “Atmos drivers.” A license may be required after the trial. Windows Sonic is a built-in alternative; DTS Headphone:X is another paid option.
Equipment and connection choices
- Headphones: Compatibility, comfort and low latency matter more than an Atmos logo. The Xbox performs the spatial rendering.
- Soundbar: Choose Dolby Atmos decoding, HDMI input or eARC, and a low-latency/game mode. Rear or upward-firing speakers affect how convincing height sounds.
- AV receiver: Look for Atmos decoding, eARC, enough channels for layouts such as 5.1.2, and HDMI 2.1 passthrough if you use 4K/120Hz or VRR.
- Routing: Xbox → AVR/soundbar → TV often avoids TV pass-through limits. Xbox → TV → eARC can work, but behavior depends on the exact models and firmware.
Troubleshooting
The receiver says Atmos for every game
That indicator may describe the selected Xbox output or the receiver’s processing, not the game’s authored mix. Compare a known spatial title, inspect whether the input is Dolby MAT/object-based rather than a receiver listening mode, and treat the result as an enthusiast check—not certification.
No height-channel activity
- The game may not be native Atmos.
- Xbox may be set to stereo or uncompressed 5.1 instead of Atmos.
- The AVR/soundbar input or speaker layout may be wrong.
- TV eARC/pass-through, HDMI bandwidth or outdated firmware may limit the signal.
- The game may have its own stereo/headset mode selected.
Audio delay
Pure Xbox notes latency concerns in community testing. Try, in order: Xbox → AVR/soundbar → TV; Xbox → TV → eARC; disabling unnecessary TV processing; game/low-latency modes; firmware updates; and a comparison with uncompressed 5.1 or stereo. Keep whichever path gives acceptable sync—there is no universal best wiring.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe Store tag looks wrong
Store metadata is a clue, not conclusive proof. Cross-check developer documentation, Dolby’s list, current technical coverage, the community database and independent output testing. Backward-compatible Xbox One games can work with spatial output, but support is title-, patch- and edition-specific; do not assume every Series console release is identical.

How to judge an unlisted game
- Check the developer or publisher’s audio notes and the exact Xbox edition.
- Look for Dolby’s listing or reputable technical verification, noting its publication date.
- Search the current community spreadsheet and read its evidence notes.
- Test with Atmos enabled, then compare uncompressed 5.1/stereo for height cues, positioning and latency.
- Label the result honestly: officially listed, first-party confirmed, independently documented, community-tested, Store-tag-only, or merely virtualized.
Keep the game and console updated; an audio implementation can change after a patch. Series S supports the same Atmos platform feature as Series X, although individual game editions and performance modes can differ.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dolby Atmos free on Xbox?
Home-theater Atmos output does not use the separate headphone license. Dolby Atmos for Headphones normally includes a trial and may require a paid license afterward; check the current Dolby Access listing for pricing.
Do I need an Atmos headset or ceiling speakers?
No. Headphone Atmos is software-rendered and works with compatible ordinary headphones. Speakers require an Atmos-decoding soundbar or AVR; ceiling speakers are optional, though physical height channels can improve the effect.
Does every game sound better with Atmos enabled?
Not necessarily. Native spatial mixes can improve positioning, but virtualization, receiver processing or added latency may make uncompressed 5.1, stereo or another spatial mode preferable.

Does Dolby Vision support mean a game supports Atmos?
No. Dolby Vision is HDR video and Dolby Atmos is audio. They are separate capabilities.
Should I leave Atmos enabled for games not on a list?
You can, because Xbox will render or virtualize the game’s available audio, but do not call that native Atmos support. Compare modes for clarity, positioning and lip-sync.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with Dolby’s nine explicitly named both-format games, use the dated TechRadar list and Pure Xbox database as progressively broader evidence, and never treat an Atmos receiver badge or Store tag as proof of a native mix. Configure Dolby Access and HDMI correctly, then verify the result by listening for positioning and checking latency on your own equipment.
