DCC’s question about Exertis is no longer whether the technology operation might be sold. The group has sold its healthcare division, completed the sale of its UK and Ireland Info Tech business to AURELIUS, begun separating other European operations and said it intends to agree a sale of the remaining specialist Technology business by the end of calendar 2026.
The business left in DCC’s portfolio is not the same broad European distribution operation discussed in November 2024. It is now described as predominantly North American, with a focus on professional AV, professional audio, enterprise infrastructure and consumer technologies. The buyer, transaction perimeter, brand arrangements and treatment of remaining European assets are still unresolved.
From strategic review to active disposal
When DCC announced its simplification plan on 12 November 2024, it said it would focus solely on energy. The plan called for DCC Healthcare to be prepared for sale and for the group to review strategic options for DCC Technology after an operational-improvement programme. DCC said the review would take place within 24 months and that surplus cash from disposals would be returned to shareholders.

That announcement created uncertainty around Exertis, the technology distribution business within DCC Technology. It did not, however, announce a buyer or confirm that all of Exertis would be sold. The distinction matters: a strategic review, a signed disposal agreement and a completed transaction are different stages.

By August 2026, the review had developed into a broader break-up and disposal process. Some businesses have changed hands, some have been placed into sale processes and DCC says work has begun to sell the remaining Technology operation.
DCC also changed its corporate name to DCC Energy plc after its July 2026 annual general meeting. That change reinforces the group’s intended identity, although the technology disposal itself had not necessarily completed at the time of the name change.
DCC’s original simplification announcement said energy accounted for 74% of group operating profit and delivered an 18.7% return on capital employed.
Why DCC chose energy
DCC’s stated rationale was that energy offered the group its strongest combination of scale, growth and returns. The company cited market-leading positions in 12 countries and service to approximately 10 million customers annually, alongside the 74% share of group operating profit and 18.7% return on capital employed.
Those figures explain management’s preference for a single-sector energy group, but they do not prove that the whole technology operation was failing. At the time of the November 2024 announcement, DCC Technology was reported to be trading broadly in line with expectations in the first half of fiscal 2025. Operating profit was up 1.1%, with organic profit growth of 1.4%.
The strategic argument was therefore about focus and capital allocation as much as immediate performance. DCC viewed technology distribution as non-core beside energy, while the technology business brought additional working-capital, supply-chain and operational complexity.
The disposals already completed
Healthcare
DCC completed the sale of its Healthcare division in September 2025 after receiving regulatory approvals. The company said it intended to return £800 million from the transaction to shareholders: £100 million through an on-market share buyback, £600 million through a tender offer and a further £100 million after receiving deferred consideration, expected approximately two years after completion.

The healthcare transaction demonstrated that the simplification plan was being executed rather than remaining a strategic statement. It also established the pattern DCC was seeking: dispose of non-energy operations and return surplus capital.
DCC’s completion announcement contains the company’s details of the sale and capital return.
UK and Ireland Info Tech
DCC agreed to sell its UK and Ireland Info Tech business to private-equity investor AURELIUS on 14 July 2025. The transaction completed in November 2025.
- Buyer: AURELIUS
- Business: DCC’s UK and Ireland Info Tech operation
- Enterprise value: approximately £100 million
- Revenue: approximately £2 billion
- Profit contribution: approximately 1% of DCC’s continuing profits in FY2025
This was not a sale of all Exertis, and it did not transfer the whole of DCC Technology to AURELIUS. The business was relatively small in profit terms but material to working-capital volatility and supply-chain financing. DCC linked the disposal to lower complexity and a less volatile working-capital profile.

What happened to Exertis France and Iberia?
DCC’s 2025 reporting said it had decided earlier in the year to exit or close the loss-making Exertis France consumer-products business and Exertis Iberia. In April 2025, DCC Technology signed an exclusivity agreement covering their proposed sale.
The businesses were treated as discontinued operations, but the official material available for this article does not provide a definitive completion announcement. It is therefore inaccurate to state categorically that the France and Iberia sale completed.

The careful description is that DCC put Exertis France’s consumer-products operation and Exertis Iberia into a sale process. That is materially different from confirming a completed disposal. The same caution applies to assumptions about every European operation carrying the Exertis name.

What remains of DCC Technology?
DCC’s May 2026 results presentation describes the remaining Technology business as a specialist operation providing intelligent technology solutions across:
- Professional AV
- Professional audio
- Enterprise infrastructure
- Consumer technologies
It is described as predominantly North American, with a smaller European presence. DCC presents it as a global leader in the sales, marketing and distribution of specialist professional AV, professional audio and related products and services.
This geographic and operational shift is central to understanding what a future sale might involve. “Exertis” should not be treated as an unchanged, unified global distributor. The portfolio has already been narrowed through the UK and Ireland Info Tech sale, the France and Iberia process and other restructuring decisions.
DCC’s language also creates an important distinction between the remaining specialist Technology business and individual units such as Info Tech, Pro Tech, Exertis France and Exertis Iberia. A final transaction may not include every business or brand that has historically been associated with Exertis.
Is DCC selling Exertis?
The most accurate answer is that DCC is pursuing a sale of the remaining DCC Technology business, whose operations include Exertis-related specialist technology activities.

It would be misleading to say that DCC has already sold Exertis outright. AURELIUS bought the UK and Ireland Info Tech business, not the entire Exertis operation. DCC has also not confirmed that the France and Iberia process completed, nor has it announced a buyer for the remaining Technology business.
DCC said in its May 2026 results materials that proprietary work had begun on selling the remaining specialist Technology operation, with an intention to reach agreement by the end of calendar 2026. Reaching an agreement is not the same as completing the transaction. Regulatory approvals, separation work and other conditions could still affect the timetable.

The consequences will depend on the final perimeter and buyer, but several groups have a direct interest.
Technology vendors
Manufacturers and software or infrastructure suppliers will want clarity on vendor-authorisation agreements, sales coverage, credit arrangements and the continuity of channel programmes. A buyer may preserve the existing model, consolidate overlapping operations or change the regional responsibilities attached to particular brands.
Resellers and integrators
Partners are likely to focus on account ownership, stock availability, credit terms, rebates, technical support and the continuity of specialist AV and audio distribution. A fragmented transaction could produce different owners or operating models across regions.
Employees
Employees will face questions about management retention, employment transfers, systems, offices and the separation of shared corporate functions. Those issues are especially relevant where the remaining operation still relies on DCC-wide infrastructure.

Customers may see little immediate change if contracts, distribution agreements and service teams remain in place. The larger risk is transition disruption if a buyer reorganises logistics, sales coverage or product support.

Potential buyers
A buyer would reasonably assess North American geographic concentration, exposure to professional AV and audio, vendor contracts, inventory and working-capital needs, customer concentration, margins by business line, technology systems, separation costs and management retention. These are transaction questions rather than confirmed weaknesses in DCC’s remaining business.
The strategic trade-off for DCC
For DCC, a successful disposal would create a simpler, energy-focused group, reduce operational complexity and potentially release more capital for shareholder returns or energy investment. Selling the technology operation could also reduce exposure to distribution businesses with substantial inventory and financing requirements.
The costs and risks are equally clear. DCC would lose diversification and any future upside from technology-sector growth. The sale could involve separation costs, disruption to vendors and employees, and the risk that a fragmented remaining portfolio attracts less value than a fully integrated operation. DCC would also become more dependent on the performance of energy markets, weather, regulation and the economics of the energy transition.

The questions still unanswered
The strategic direction is now clear, but the transaction remains open on several points:
- Who will acquire the remaining Technology business?
- Which subsidiaries, brands and geographies will be included?
- Will North American and European operations be sold together?
- Will the Exertis name remain in use, and under what ownership?
- Will further closures or carve-outs be required?
- How will vendor contracts, channel programmes and customer relationships transfer?
- Can DCC reach an agreement by the end of 2026, and when would any transaction actually close?
Until DCC publishes the scope and terms of a transaction, claims that Exertis is disappearing, that all regional businesses have been sold or that one buyer will acquire the entire historic operation go beyond the evidence.
What the 2024 story looks like now
The November 2024 question—what happens to Exertis?—has evolved into a more specific one. DCC is building an energy-only company and has already removed healthcare and UK and Ireland Info Tech from the group. It has also narrowed or put parts of the European technology portfolio into sale processes.

The remaining business is an increasingly North American specialist technology operation, rather than the broad European distribution group readers knew from the original announcement. DCC’s stated endgame is to sell it. The important unresolved issues are the buyer, the assets included, the future of the Exertis brand and whether the business can be separated without disrupting its vendors, partners, employees and customers.
