On a keyboard, enter Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. The mouse is normally not part of the Konami Code; whether the sequence does anything depends on the game, website or app you are using.
The standard keyboard sequence
The familiar sequence is:
↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A
In key names, press Up Arrow, Up Arrow, Down Arrow, Down Arrow, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, B, A, in that order. Konami’s official anniversary page gives this ten-input command as ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA (Konami).
The arrow keys stand in for the directional pad, and the B and A keys stand in for the buttons with those labels. They are not chosen by their position on a keyboard, so the basic PC version is still B followed by A.
Does the mouse do anything?
Usually, no. The standard code consists of directional and button inputs; it does not include moving the mouse, left-clicking or right-clicking. “Mouse and keyboard” usually just means that you are using a computer.

A particular game or site could define its own mouse actions, or an accessibility tool or remapping utility could translate mouse input into another control. Those are custom arrangements, not a universal mouse version of the code. For example, one browser implementation listens for keyboard events rather than requiring mouse input (JavaScript example).
Where the code works—and what it does
The Konami Code is not a Windows, macOS or browser command. It only works where a developer has programmed software to recognize it. Depending on the game or page, it might activate power-ups, extra lives, a hidden mode, a visual gag or a message—or do nothing.

Konami credits the code’s first appearance to the NES version of Gradius, released on April 25, 1986. In that game, it gave the player’s ship a powerful set of upgrades (Konami’s anniversary page). The sequence later became especially well known through Contra, where a related version is remembered for granting extra lives. Effects vary by title and release; the code does not have one fixed reward.

How to enter it on a computer
- Open the game or page that is supposed to recognize it. Look for a title screen, main menu, character-selection screen or other likely input point; the right location depends on the implementation.
- Give that window or page keyboard focus. Click the game area or page if needed, but avoid leaving the cursor in a text field where the arrow keys may control the text instead.
- Enter the ten inputs in order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. Use arrow keys unless the software’s instructions say otherwise.
- Press a confirmation key only if the game asks for one. Some implementations expect Start, Enter or another input after B, A. That is an optional, game-specific continuation, not part of the core ten-input sequence.

An emulator may map its B and A buttons to keys other than the physical B and A keys. Check its input settings rather than assuming which keyboard keys correspond to those buttons. Similarly, WASD is not automatically a substitute for the arrow keys: use it only if the particular software documents that mapping.

Why the code may not work
- The software does not support it. The sequence must be deliberately implemented; trying it in an unrelated game, app or browser will not trigger a universal feature.
- You entered it on the wrong screen. Try the title screen or main menu if you do not know where the game listens for the input.
- The window does not have keyboard focus. A text box or another open window may receive the keys instead.
- The order or inputs differ. Check that you used arrow keys and finished with B, A. A game may define different controls for its own version.
- The game expects quicker input or a confirmation. There is no universal timing limit. Example web implementations use different reset timeouts, including 500 milliseconds and one second, showing that timing is set by each implementation (example with a timeout; example with a one-second reset).
- A mapping or overlay tool intercepts the keys. Check emulator bindings and, if appropriate, temporarily disable remapping, macro or overlay software.
- Your edition handles it differently. Ports, remasters and platform releases can have different controls or effects. Check documentation for the exact game version.
If the sequence still produces no response, that alone does not indicate a keyboard problem: the feature may simply be absent from that software.
