Superhuman Hearing is Turtle Beach’s gaming-audio enhancement mode, designed to make relatively quiet cues—such as footsteps, reloads and movement—more noticeable. It changes how the headset renders the game’s sound; it does not create sounds the game never produced, provide hearing protection or guarantee a competitive advantage. How you activate it and whether you can adjust its intensity depend on the exact headset and platform version.
What Superhuman Hearing does
Turtle Beach markets Superhuman Hearing for games where small audio cues can matter, especially competitive shooters and battle royale games. The intended cues include enemy footsteps, weapon reloads, player movement and distant environmental sounds. If a quiet sound is present in the game mix, the mode may make it stand out more against other audio.
That is not the same as hearing through walls or detecting an enemy the game has not made audible. The result depends on the game’s audio mix, headset model, platform, connection mode, listening level and your own hearing. It changes the balance and character of the sound, so it will not necessarily make every game sound better.
Is it just an equalizer?
The practical answer is that Superhuman Hearing is a Turtle Beach-specific audio-processing mode or preset that emphasizes sounds the company considers useful during gameplay. Turtle Beach describes it as more targeted than a conventional EQ that boosts broad frequency bands. The exact processing, frequency ranges and behavior across headset generations are proprietary and are not fully specified in the public product information. It is best understood as a cue-emphasis mode—not a universal footsteps detector.

It also should not be confused with ordinary volume amplification. Turning up the whole headset raises loud sounds as well as quiet ones; Superhuman Hearing is intended to alter which parts of the mix stand out. Turtle Beach’s older Stealth 600 Gen 2 Xbox guide, for example, describes the mode separately from its selectable EQ presets.
Superhuman Hearing vs. other audio features

Some of these features may be used together, depending on the model and setup, but they solve different problems. Turtle Beach’s Stealth 600 Gen 2 guide discusses Superhuman Hearing and Windows Sonic separately. Do not assume that selecting one enables or replaces the other.
How to turn it on
There is no universal Turtle Beach button shortcut. Controls differ across generations, platform versions and app configurations; the manual for your exact model is the reliable reference. These examples are specific to the models named:

- Stealth 600 Gen 2, Xbox and PlayStation versions: With the headset on, quickly press the Power button once during play to toggle Superhuman Hearing on; press it again to turn the mode off. The separate Mode button cycles EQ presets. See the Xbox guide or PlayStation guide.
- Stealth 500: The quick-start guide identifies a multifunction control for Superhuman Hearing and describes a one-second press to toggle it. Check the button layout for your Xbox or PlayStation version in the Stealth 500 guide.
- Stealth 700 Gen 2: On at least some versions, the Mode button activates or deactivates the feature by default. The control can be remapped through the Audio Hub mobile app; consult the model-specific remapping instructions.
- Newer headsets: Button mappings and app controls vary. Check the product manual and the Turtle Beach Swarm II app. On supported models, the app also provides Advanced Superhuman Hearing intensity settings.
A voice prompt, beep, app indicator, changed button response or audible tonal shift may help you tell whether the feature is active, but there is no single indicator guaranteed across all models. If you are unsure, compare the same game sound with the mode on and off.
Adjusting newer models in Swarm II
For a newer headset that supports Swarm II, connect or pair it as directed for your model, open the app on PC, iOS or Android, and check the headset’s settings for controls, firmware and Superhuman Hearing. Supported Advanced Superhuman Hearing models offer three intensity levels; the exact controls vary. For instance, Turtle Beach lists intensity adjustment through Swarm II for the Stealth 700 Gen 3 and Stealth Pro II. Some newer headsets also let you assign the feature or its volume to a physical control.
Do not assume all features are available over Bluetooth. Turtle Beach warns that some advanced audio functions may not work in Bluetooth mode. A legacy headset may instead use Turtle Beach Audio Hub, so check its manual rather than installing an app based only on the headset brand.

Should you use it for footsteps?
It is worth trying in competitive FPS, battle royale or stealth games where the default mix makes footsteps, reloads or movement difficult to pick out. It may also suit a headset whose normal sound is bass-heavy or congested. But it cannot repair weak or inconsistent footstep audio in a particular game, fix incorrect console or PC output settings, compensate for a poor fit, or teach you to interpret directional cues.

Compare a short, repeatable section of gameplay with the mode on and off at a comfortable, safe volume. Listen for whether the cue you care about becomes easier to notice—and whether other sounds become unpleasant or less natural.
When to turn it off
Switch it off, reduce the intensity if your model allows that, or choose a different EQ when the sound becomes sharp, thin or fatiguing. Music, explosions and ambience may sound less natural, and a strong competitive mix may already make the cues clear enough. For story games, music listening or general immersion, a more balanced sound may be preferable.

Advanced models with intensity controls offer a middle ground: try a lower level before giving up on the feature. On some older products, Superhuman Hearing is a separate selection from the ordinary EQ presets rather than an effect that stacks with them; check the manual for your headset.

Turtle Beach lists the feature on multiple headset generations and on some controllers, but there is no safe assumption that every product bearing the brand supports it or behaves the same way. Current official examples include:

- Stealth 600 Gen 3: lists built-in Superhuman Hearing and Swarm II customization.
- Stealth 700 Gen 3: lists Advanced Superhuman Hearing with three intensity levels in Swarm II.
- Stealth Pro and Stealth Pro II: list Advanced Superhuman Hearing; the Pro II product page specifies three intensity levels.
Turtle Beach also lists Superhuman Hearing as a sound setting on the Recon and React-R controllers. A controller setting is not the same as a headset feature, so check what the control does with your headphones and platform.
These are examples, not a permanent compatibility list. Before relying on the feature—or buying a product for it—verify the exact Xbox, PlayStation or PC version, supported connection method, control assignment, and whether intensity adjustment is included. Platform versions can differ.
Troubleshooting: no control or no audible change
- Identify the exact model and platform version. Do not apply Gen 2 button instructions to a Gen 3 headset just because the product names are similar.
- Check the connection. Confirm the headset is connected through a mode that supports the feature; do not assume Bluetooth offers every advanced function.
- Check the control mapping. A button may be reassigned in Swarm II or the legacy Audio Hub.
- Check software and firmware. Use the app specified for that product and install available headset or transmitter updates if the control is missing.
- Confirm audio is reaching the headset. Verify the console or PC output selection, then compare the same game cue with the mode on and off.
- Check other processing. EQ, spatial-audio and platform enhancements can change what you hear, so test with a consistent setup.
- Restart and re-pair if needed. If the setting remains missing, consult the exact model’s support page or manual rather than a guide for a similarly named headset.
Does it protect your hearing?
No. Superhuman Hearing is an audio-processing feature, not hearing protection. Keep listening levels comfortable and take breaks; do not turn the volume up to compensate if a cue is still difficult to hear.
