The phone behind the €799 headline is the HONOR 400 Pro 5G. At its European launch in May 2025, it paired a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with a 200MP main camera, a dedicated telephoto lens, 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, IP68/IP69 protection, and a six-year Android OS and security-update commitment for the European model. That is an unusually ambitious spec sheet for the launch price—but €799 was the launch price, not a promise of what it costs today, and some headline numbers need context.
Why the HONOR 400 Pro stood out at €799
HONOR launched three phones in the 400 family in Europe: the 400 Lite at €299, the HONOR 400 5G at €499 for 256GB or €549 for 512GB, and the 400 Pro 5G at €799. The Pro’s price bought more than a larger storage option: compared with the standard 400, it steps up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, adds a telephoto camera, and supports 100W rather than 66W wired charging. The resulting combination is the real story. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was flagship-generation silicon when the phone launched; the large silicon-carbon battery, fast wired and wireless charging, high water-resistance ratings, and long support pledge also reach beyond what many buyers expect from a mid-range phone. But a strong list of components does not by itself establish camera quality, sustained gaming performance, software preference, or value at a later price.

Display and performance: premium claims, with limits
The 400 Pro has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 1280 × 2800 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. HONOR specifies peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits and HDR Vivid support. Treat 5,000 nits as a stated peak under limited conditions—not a brightness level the whole screen will sustain in ordinary use. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 should give the phone a much stronger starting point for demanding games and heavy apps than a typical mid-range Snapdragon 7-series chip. By 2026, however, it is previous-generation silicon. A processor name alone cannot tell you how well the phone sustains performance during long gaming sessions or when gaming, 5G, navigation, and camera use overlap; thermals and software tuning matter too. The 12GB RAM/512GB configuration appears in indexed specifications, but memory and storage can vary by market. There is no microSD slot listed, and third-party specification data identifies the USB-C port as USB 2.0—an important limitation for people who often move large files over a cable. Check the exact local model’s specifications before buying.
Four rear cameras on paper; different roles in practice
- Main: a 200MP, f/1.9 camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and optical image stabilization. The high resolution gives the camera plenty of data to process, but it does not guarantee better pictures. HDR, shutter speed, skin tones, moving subjects, night shots, and consistency matter at least as much.
- Telephoto: a 50MP camera with 3× optical zoom and optical stabilization. That dedicated lens is a useful advantage for portraits and distant subjects. Higher advertised zoom modes, including up to 50×, are digitally or computationally assisted; they are not equivalent to 50× optical zoom.
- Ultrawide and macro: a 12MP camera with a 112-degree field of view and autofocus, also used for macro photography. Its resolution is much lower than the main camera’s, so do not assume it will match the main lens for detail, low-light shots, or color.
- Front: indexed specifications list a 50MP selfie camera alongside a 2MP depth camera. Portrait cutouts, video stabilization, dynamic range, and low-light results are matters for sample images, not megapixels alone.
HONOR’s launch materials set out the camera hardware, but a buyer choosing between camera phones should look for comparable real-world samples, particularly across the main, telephoto, and ultrawide lenses. The launch specification overview.

AI editing is a feature set, not a guarantee
HONOR promotes tools including AI Image to Video, AI Eraser, AI Outpainting, Remove Passersby, and Remove Reflection. In practical terms, these cover different jobs: making a short video from a still image, removing or replacing unwanted parts of an image, extending a picture beyond its original frame, or trying to erase people and reflections. Image to Video was described as using Google Cloud technology.

Generative edits can invent details where information is missing, so results may look artificial or alter parts of an image beyond the intended edit. Cloud-based features may also depend on an internet connection, an account, or regional and language support. Availability and behavior can change with software updates. Battery and charging: standout numbers, conditional results
The European specification lists a 5,300mAh silicon-carbon battery. HONOR advertises 100W wired charging and says the phone can reach 51% in 15 minutes under its stated conditions. It also advertises 50W wireless charging and a 36% charge in 15 minutes. These are company claims under controlled conditions, not guaranteed results for every charger, cable, temperature, battery level, or use pattern. Battery capacity alone cannot establish how long the phone lasts between charges; screen brightness, gaming, 5G, camera use, apps, and software all affect endurance. Do not assume every box includes a 100W adapter. HONOR UK has presented a 100W GaN adapter as a promotional gift with limited availability, which is different from a universal in-box guarantee. Confirm the box contents, plug type, and bundle terms with the local seller before checkout. Wireless charging at the advertised rate also requires compatible equipment.

IP68/IP69 resistance is not waterproofing
HONOR specifies IP68 and IP69 protection. In broad terms, IP68 concerns dust ingress and immersion under defined test conditions; IP69 concerns high-pressure, high-temperature water jets under a defined test setup. Neither rating makes a phone invulnerable, covers every liquid or exposure, or guarantees that seals remain intact after damage or repair. Avoid deliberate underwater photography, saltwater or chlorinated water, and charging the phone while wet. Water resistance is not drop protection. The European 400 Pro launched with Android 15 and MagicOS 9.0. HONOR’s European messaging promises six years of Android OS and security updates. That is a meaningful support commitment, but “six years” does not automatically mean six major Android version upgrades, day-one releases, or identical security-patch timing in every country. Check the local policy for the exact model and distinguish the support period from the number of Android upgrades and the pace of rollouts. Regional variants may have different terms. MagicOS is more heavily customized than stock Android, so its interface and bundled apps are a matter of preference. AI features may change or arrive through updates. HONOR says Honor Connect supports iPhone and iPad migration with MagicOS 9.0 or later and iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or later; check app and device compatibility if switching from Apple. What €799 means now—and what to check before buying
€799 was the HONOR 400 Pro’s European launch price in May 2025. It should not be quoted as its current price without checking a specific country and seller. A later indexed HONOR UK offer showed a price from £499.99 with a promotional code; that is a dated, market-specific promotion, not a price that applies across Europe or remains guaranteed. Taxes, storage, bundles, stock, and delivery terms vary. Check HONOR UK’s buying page and your local HONOR store for live terms.
Before ordering, confirm the model number and seller country, the warranty, supported network bands, Google services, software-support wording, storage configuration, charger inclusion, and AI-feature availability. A grey import carrying the same phone name may not have the same battery, bands, warranty, update terms, or regional features. US availability should not be inferred from the European launch.
It is most compelling if you can buy the European model at a substantial discount and value fast charging, wireless charging, strong processing, a dedicated telephoto lens, a large battery, and a long support promise. Think twice if you want the newest processor, expandable storage, fast wired file transfers, a stock-like Android interface, or a phone chosen primarily on proven camera consistency. Against newer phones, compare current local prices and independent reviews rather than assuming the 2025 launch specification still makes it the best buy.
