The Waze warnings described as “about to” arrive were officially announced on March 5, 2024—not as a confirmed new 2026 launch. They include earlier alerts for curves, speed bumps and toll booths, warnings before mapped speed-limit reductions, more detailed roundabout guidance, and alerts about certain stopped emergency vehicles. Waze said rollout timing and coverage would vary; the emergency-vehicle feature was announced for the U.S., Canada, Mexico and France. An announcement is not proof that every feature is active for every driver today.
Waze’s announcement is useful, but the date matters. The company outlined the core road-warning features in a March 5, 2024 post. A January 2026 article later described users seeing some of them as an imminent rollout, while noting there was no fresh official announcement. The available information does not establish a separate August 2026 launch of this same feature package.
Here is what Waze said the features do—and what drivers should not assume they do.

Earlier warnings for curves, speed bumps and toll booths
Waze said it would provide earlier warnings about sharp curves, speed bumps and toll booths. More lead time can help you prepare for a change in the road, but these alerts depend on mapped information. They are not a guarantee that every feature is recorded or that an alert will always arrive in time.

Alerts before a speed limit drops
The announced feature warns when the speed limit is about to decrease along your route. That is different from reading every roadside sign in real time. A mapped limit may be missing or outdated, and the alert does not account for every temporary restriction, such as a construction or school-zone limit. Follow the posted signs and local rules.
More detailed roundabout directions
Waze said its roundabout guidance would offer more detail about when to enter, which lane to choose and where to exit. It can help when a roundabout is unfamiliar, but it relies on a correctly mapped layout and an active route. Road markings and signs remain the authority if they differ from the app.
Alerts for stopped emergency vehicles
The specific feature in Waze’s announcement concerns emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, stopped along your route. Waze said it was available on Android and iOS in the United States, Canada, Mexico and France, with more countries planned. The information comes through Waze for City partners, so local municipal participation and data availability matter.

More visibility into usual routes and alternatives
Waze also said it would make information about frequently used routes easier to see, including live traffic, delays and comparisons with alternative routes. That is a way to compare options, not a guarantee that Waze will always choose your preferred route or that the feature is a new AI-powered personalization system.
What the 2024 rollout announcement said
The table below records the rollout plans Waze stated in March 2024. These are historical launch statements, not a current availability guarantee for every account, country or device.

Waze’s announcement does not provide a verified app version requirement or a definitive present-day regional checklist for these features. Availability may depend on country, platform, map coverage, partner data and staged account rollouts.
Not every Waze alert works the same way
“Waze warning” can refer to several different kinds of information, with different sources and freshness:

- Mapped road features: Curves, speed bumps, toll booths, roundabouts and speed-limit information depend on the underlying map data.
- Community reports: Incidents such as crashes, objects, closures or police presence may be reported or confirmed by users. Reports can become stale or be missing.
- Partner-supplied alerts: The announced stopped-emergency-vehicle information relies on Waze for City partners.
- Camera information: In July 2024, Google announced additional Waze camera-alert categories, including cameras associated with speeding, red-light violations, wrong-lane use, bus or carpool lanes, seatbelt enforcement and phone use while driving. These alerts draw on community contributions and public-authority information. See Google’s announcement about Waze and Maps updates.
These systems are not all live detection by the Waze app. A mapped hazard can be wrong or out of date; a community report can arrive late; and a partner alert depends on available local data. A warning may also appear on one route but not another.

- Update Waze from your phone’s app store.
- Before setting off, start a route and look for the relevant warning or guidance on a road where it would apply.
- If an alert appears on screen but you cannot hear it, check Waze’s current alert and sound settings, your phone’s notification and location permissions, and the selected audio output.
- If a feature is absent, do not assume the app is broken. It may not be available for your region, route, map data, platform or account.
Menu labels can change, and there is no verified universal settings path for these specific features. Check settings while parked, not while driving. The January 2026 Techlicious article also suggested updating the app and checking settings, but did not establish a required version or a current feature-by-feature availability list.
What can go wrong—and how to use the alerts
Waze’s community, map and partner data can be valuable, but it is not authoritative or infallible. A speed limit may have changed; a roundabout may have been rebuilt; a toll arrangement may differ from the map; or an emergency vehicle may be present without partner data. An alert might be late, muted or less detailed on a car display than on the phone.
Use Waze as an aid to awareness, not as a substitute for driving judgment. Keep your attention on the road, obey signs and signals, adjust to weather and traffic, and follow instructions from emergency responders. More alerts can also mean more distraction, so set sound and notification preferences before you begin driving.
For context, Google announced further Waze changes in 2024, including Conversational Reporting and school-zone mapping work. Those are separate from the March road-warning package. Waze’s strength is its community-driven road information; Google Maps and Apple Maps offer different navigation ecosystems and integrations, but the evidence here does not establish a current feature-by-feature comparison.
