Elephone’s official P8 Mini disassembly video shows a plastic pry-tool opening of the phone’s non-removable rear cover, then highlights the camera assemblies, speaker module and thermal materials inside. The video was reported by GizChina on July 5, 2017, and is now archival coverage of a 2017 budget handset.

What this video is—and is not
Contemporary reports identify the footage as an Elephone-produced promotional disassembly, rather than an independent repairability teardown. The accompanying GizChina post is a short video-news article, not a model-specific service manual. It shows how the rear cover is accessed and presents selected internal features, but it does not document every removal step, screw location, adhesive type, replacement part or reassembly test.
That distinction matters: an orderly promotional layout and a pryable back do not prove that the P8 Mini is easy to repair.

What the disassembly shows
Rear-cover access
The opening begins with a plastic prying tool separating the rear cover. Contemporary coverage describes this initial access as relatively straightforward, but that is an observation about the filmed procedure, not a standardized repairability score. The cover is non-removable during normal use, and clips, cables, the cover itself or nearby components can still be damaged when force is applied.
Camera hardware
The exposed rear assembly is reported as a 13-megapixel camera paired with a 2-megapixel secondary camera. The front module is reported as 16 megapixels with an f/2.0 aperture. A contemporaneous review also lists a front flash and the same broad camera arrangement: Gizmochina’s 2017 P8 Mini review.
Seeing the modules confirms their physical placement, not their image quality. The footage cannot establish the sensor manufacturers, lens performance, image processing, low-light results, video quality or how much the secondary rear camera contributes to depth effects.

Speaker enclosure
The phone’s speaker is presented as a sealed module. That construction can help with acoustic and mechanical design, but it is not an ingress-protection certification. The available report specifically cautions that the P8 Mini should not be treated as waterproof, and no authoritative IP rating is established here.
Graphite and processor-area thermal material
Coverage highlights a flexible natural-graphite flake or conductive graphite layer over or around the battery, along with a silica-gel plate or similar thermal material around the processor shield area. Graphite sheets generally spread heat laterally across a surface; a pad or gel can improve contact between a heat-generating component and a shield or spreader.
These are passive heat-spreading measures, not active cooling. Their presence does not demonstrate lower sustained temperatures, longer battery life or faster performance. One contemporaneous report suggested that the provisions could help performance and battery usage, but that was an interpretation rather than a published measurement: Gizmochina’s report on the teardown.

P8 Mini hardware in period context
The teardown is easier to understand alongside the phone’s 2017 specification lists. The following figures come from contemporary coverage and should not be read as current software or support information.

The battery discrepancy is worth preserving rather than silently choosing one figure: Tech Advisor lists about 2,680mAh, while Gizmochina lists about 2,860mAh. Regional or hardware variants may account for conflicting listings, but the available teardown report provides no definitive capacity.
Launch and review reports placed the phone at historical prices of roughly $99.99 to $139.99, depending on promotion and retailer. Those 2017 figures are not current market values.

What the video tells you about repairability
- Demonstrated: visual access through the rear cover using a plastic pry tool.
- Suggested, but not measured: an apparently organized internal layout.
- Not demonstrated: battery removal, display separation, charging-port replacement, motherboard replacement, adhesive specifications or reassembly testing.
- Not established: official parts availability, a repairability score or water resistance after the phone is opened.
The non-removable battery is particularly important for second-hand buyers. A pryable cover makes inspection possible, but it does not make an aged lithium battery safe or simple to replace. Opening the handset can damage clips, flex cables, the battery or the rear cover, and contemporary reporting warns that it may affect warranty coverage; the legal effect depends on the country and seller terms.
Safety checklist before opening a P8 Mini
- Back up photos, messages and other data.
- Power the phone off completely; do not work on it while charging.
- Remove the SIM and microSD cards.
- Use a clean, dry, nonconductive work surface and keep track of every fastener.
- Prefer plastic opening picks or spudgers over metal blades.
- Do not flex, puncture, crush or pry directly against the battery.
- Avoid aggressive heating unless a verified model-specific repair procedure gives a safe temperature and method.
- Stop immediately if the battery is swollen, hot, leaking or visibly damaged.
- Assume any water-resistance protection is compromised after opening unless seals and adhesives are correctly restored; no IP rating is established for this model in the cited coverage.
- Use a qualified repairer for battery, board or display work if you lack experience with bonded mobile-phone assemblies.
What the teardown cannot prove
- It contains no independent thermal measurements or long-term reliability data.
- Graphite and silica-gel materials indicate an intended heat-management path, not a measured improvement in battery life or sustained performance.
- The camera modules reveal hardware placement, not sensor quality or photographic results.
- A sealed speaker module is not evidence of waterproofing.
- The video does not establish that replacement parts remain available or that the phone can be restored to its original condition after opening.
If the video is unavailable
Use the contemporaneous written descriptions at GizChina and Gizmochina as the archival record, and do not substitute a teardown of the larger Elephone P8, which is a different handset with different internals. The original report dates from July 2017, so Android 7.0, launch pricing and the filmed hardware should be understood as historical context rather than current product information.
