“Vivo Y55” names several different phones. The 2022 Vivo Y55 4G has a 6.44-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 680, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage and 44W charging, but no 5G. The separate Vivo Y55 5G uses Dimensity 700, a larger LCD display and slower 18W charging. A much older 2016 China-only Y55 has entirely different hardware. Identify the exact model before comparing prices or network support.
In 2026, either 2022 model makes sense only at a clear discount, with the regional model number, bands, warranty and software-support situation verified.

The 2016 specification is listed by vivo China. The 2022 launch dates are listed as May 4, 2022 for the 4G model and January 2022 for the 5G model by Gadgets 360 and Gadgets 360.
A listing that says only “Vivo Y55” is incomplete. Look for 4G or 5G, chipset, RAM/storage, model number and sales region. A Snapdragon 680 or AMOLED screen identifies the 4G version; Dimensity 700 and an LCD identify the 5G version.

What the differences mean in daily use
AMOLED versus LCD
The 4G Y55’s AMOLED panel should be the more appealing choice for contrast and black levels. The 5G model gives you a slightly larger screen but uses LCD technology. Neither official specification page establishes refresh rate, peak brightness, color accuracy or outdoor readability, so those qualities require hands-on testing.
Snapdragon 680 versus Dimensity 700
Snapdragon 680 positions the 4G phone as an everyday-use device rather than a performance-focused gaming model. Dimensity 700 adds a 5G-capable platform. Chipset names alone do not prove frame rates, sustained performance, heat behavior or multitasking results; no independent benchmark data is established here.

Camera hardware
Both 2022 phones advertise a 50MP primary rear camera, but the 4G model has a 16MP selfie camera while the 5G model has 8MP. The 4G camera app lists Night, Portrait, Video, Double Exposure, Live Photo, 50MP, Panorama, Slow Motion, Time-Lapse, Pro and Documents modes (vivo). The UAE 5G page describes bokeh and macro functions (vivo UAE). The two 2MP cameras should not be assumed to be an ultrawide or telephoto system. Resolution does not establish image quality, stabilization, autofocus behavior or low-light performance.
Battery and charging
Both 2022 variants use a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery. The 4G phone’s 44W charging is substantially faster on paper than the 5G phone’s 18W. The UAE Y55 5G page claims up to 20 hours of online video, 18 hours of Instagram use and 10 hours of gaming in vivo laboratory tests; these are vendor claims, not independent battery results.

Do not assume a specification shown in one country applies everywhere. The Nepal page confirms an 8GB/128GB Y55 4G with Snapdragon 680, AMOLED, 5,000mAh battery and 44W charging, while listing LTE bands that differ from the shorter global list (vivo Nepal).
- RAM and storage combinations can vary, especially on the Y55 5G.
- LTE and 5G bands must match the phone’s region and your carrier.
- NFC is regional; the global Y55 page says it is supported only in Russia.
- Colors, box contents and included accessories differ. The global page says a headset is included only in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa; do not assume a headset, case, charger or film.
- Advertised storage is not fully usable because Android and preinstalled software occupy space.
- “6GB + 2GB Extended RAM” on the UAE 5G page uses storage as a software supplement; it is not equivalent to 8GB of physical RAM.
Software and longevity in 2026
The 2022 phones launched with Funtouch OS 12, while the 2016 China model lists Android 6.0 (global Y55; EU Y55 5G; China Y55). Do not assume a particular Android upgrade or security-patch date without checking the exact regional model. Because the 4G and 5G phones launched in 2022, remaining support and app compatibility should be treated as purchase risks.
Network compatibility, including the United States
The 4G Y55 cannot provide 5G. The 5G model’s supported bands vary by market, and vivo notes that actual service depends on local carrier infrastructure, availability and software (UAE specifications; Nepal specifications).
Before importing either phone, confirm:
- The exact model number and region.
- LTE and 5G bands required by your carrier.
- VoLTE support and carrier certification.
- Warranty, repair coverage and return rights in your country.
- Charger plug and included accessories.
There is no universal claim that either Y55 works fully on a particular U.S. carrier. Use the carrier’s compatibility database for the exact model.

Choose the Y55 4G when
- You can buy it at a substantial discount.
- AMOLED quality and 44W charging matter more than 5G.
- The regional version provides the desired 8GB/128GB configuration and microSD slot.
- Your carrier has compatible 4G bands and the seller offers a clear warranty and return policy.
Choose the Y55 5G when
- 5G is essential and the regional bands are suitable.
- You prefer the Dimensity 700 platform or a larger 6.58-inch display.
- You accept LCD technology, slower 18W charging and region-dependent RAM.
Approach it cautiously when
- The listing does not identify 4G or 5G.
- The price is close to a newer 2026 phone.
- You need guaranteed U.S. compatibility or long-term software support.
- The phone is imported without local warranty or repair coverage.
- A seller combines Snapdragon 680 with “5G” or shows AMOLED specifications for a supposed Y55 5G.
Is the Vivo Y55 still worth buying?
Only when the deal is clearly below newer phones and the exact regional model checks out. The Y55 4G is the more attractive hardware package for AMOLED, 44W charging and the listed 8GB RAM. The Y55 5G is the choice for 5G connectivity, but it gives up AMOLED, charging speed and—on some regional pages—memory capacity. At near-new-phone pricing, a newer officially sold model is generally safer because it is more likely to have current software support, warranty coverage and resale value. Compare current models and prices through the appropriate regional store, such as vivo India’s store, rather than relying on old launch listings.
