The vivo Y28s 5G is a real budget 5G smartphone launched in India in July 2024. It combines MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 chipset with a 6.56-inch 90Hz LCD, a 50MP rear main camera, a 5000mAh battery and Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14. However, its exact camera setup, memory options, colours and price depend on the market.
In India, launch coverage reported a starting price of ₹13,999. Vivo’s official India shop later listed the 6GB+128GB variant at an MRP of ₹19,999, with the selected listing shown as unavailable when checked. Those figures should not be treated as the same thing: the former is a reported launch price, while the latter is an official MRP signal rather than a confirmed current street price.

The vivo Y28s 5G was introduced in India alongside the lower-tier vivo Y28e 5G in July 2024. Indian launch reporting put the Y28s 5G’s starting price at ₹13,999.

Dimensity 6300 performance: what to expect
The Dimensity 6300 is a 6nm, eight-core platform with two performance cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and six efficiency cores reaching 2.0GHz. In practical terms, it places the Y28s 5G in the everyday-use budget and entry-midrange segment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIt should be suitable for messaging, social media, streaming, navigation, web browsing and ordinary multitasking. Casual and moderate gaming are reasonable expectations, but the phone should not be bought for flagship-level graphics or consistently high frame rates in demanding games.
The global specification lists eMMC 5.1 storage. That can be slower for app loading, installations and file transfers than phones using UFS storage. Because storage technology can be regional, verify it for the exact Indian or local SKU rather than assuming every Y28s 5G model uses the same storage standard.

- Slim and Lightweight Design: Slim profile with durable TPU material provides everyday protection without adding bulk
- Shockproof and Scratch Resistant: Flexible TPU construction absorbs shocks and protects your device from drops, impacts, and scratches
- Precise Cutouts and Easy Access: Designed with accurate cutouts for effortless access to all ports, buttons, and cameras

- Camera Lens Protection and Good Grip: Raised edges protect camera lenses from scratches while soft texture ensures a secure comfortable grip
50MP Sony AI camera: the important qualification
Vivo’s Indian marketing calls the phone’s main camera a 50MP Sony AI camera. That wording should be understood as a combination of a 50MP rear camera and vivo’s software or image-processing features; it does not establish that every camera component uses a 50MP Sony sensor.
The camera configuration is also not universal:
- Vivo’s India shop listing specifies 50MP + 0.08MP on the rear.
- Vivo’s global specification page lists 50MP + 2MP.
- The front-facing camera is listed as 8MP.
These differences indicate regional or SKU-level variation. The 50MP headline refers primarily to the rear main camera, not to the complete camera system. There is no basis here for promising particular low-light results, stabilization, video quality or photography performance without independent testing.

Display: smooth refresh rate, but only HD+ resolution
The Y28s 5G has a 6.56-inch LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. Scrolling and compatible animations should appear smoother than on a conventional 60Hz display, while vivo advertises brightness of up to 840 nits. The brightness figure is an official specification claim and should not be confused with an independently measured sustained full-screen result.
The trade-off is the panel technology and resolution. This is an LCD, not an AMOLED display, and its 1612 × 720 resolution is HD+ class rather than Full HD+. Buyers who value deep blacks, higher contrast, always-on display features or sharper text may prefer an AMOLED competitor.
Battery and charging
The phone has a 5000mAh typical-capacity battery, a common size for affordable 5G phones. Actual battery life will vary with screen brightness, refresh-rate settings, signal strength, gaming, streaming and 5G use.

- 【HIGH‑CLARITY VISUAL EFFECT】High definition display with true‑to‑life color; stable screen brightness; smooth visual output for daily operation
- 【MODEL‑SPECIFIC COMPATIBILITY】 Exact size matching for target phone models; seamless installation interface; precise replacement for damaged mobile screens
- 【STABLE TOUCH PERFORMANCE】 Sensitive touch response; anti‑wear touch panel; durable outer layer against daily scratches and impacts
- 【COMPREHENSIVE FAULT RESOLUTION】Ideal spare part to fix common screen problems such as display blur, unresponsive touch and cracked panel
- 【QUALITY‑CHECKED SPARE PART】 Strict pre‑shipment testing; shockproof packaging; reliable replacement component for mobile phone screen maintenance
Charging is limited to 15W. That is a clear compromise compared with budget competitors offering 33W, 45W or faster charging. Vivo also promotes battery-health and endurance statements, including a four-year battery-health claim. These are manufacturer claims, not independent battery-life or longevity test results.

The global specification lists Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14. Vivo also advertises a “48-month smooth experience” and, in some marketing, up to 16GB RAM through memory expansion. The latter includes extended or software RAM and should not be read as 16GB of physical RAM; the actual physical configurations are lower.
No specific Android-version or security-update commitment is stated in the reviewed official material. The 48-month smooth-experience phrase is marketing language, not a guaranteed software-support period.
IP64 protection means resistance to dust and water splashes. It is not waterproofing and does not make the phone suitable for immersion, swimming or heavy water exposure.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Dimensity 6300 performance for everyday use.
- 5G support, subject to local-band compatibility.
- 90Hz display refresh rate.
- 5000mAh battery.
- IP64 dust and splash resistance.
- microSD expansion support on the global listing.
Cons
- HD+ LCD rather than AMOLED or Full HD+.
- Relatively slow 15W charging.
- Basic rear-camera system with regional variation.
- eMMC 5.1 storage listed globally, which may be slower than UFS.
- No clearly documented long-term Android or security-update guarantee in the reviewed material.
- Value is much weaker at ₹19,999 MRP than at the reported ₹13,999 launch price.
Should you buy the vivo Y28s 5G?
At or near its reported ₹13,999 launch price, the Y28s 5G makes sense for buyers seeking an inexpensive 5G phone from a mainstream brand, especially if they value a 90Hz screen, a large battery, splash resistance and expandable storage.
At or near the official ₹19,999 MRP, the decision is more difficult. The HD+ LCD, 15W charging and possible eMMC storage become significant compromises against newer phones that may offer AMOLED or Full HD+ displays, faster charging and UFS storage. Heavy gamers, photography-focused buyers and users seeking a clearly defined update policy should be cautious.
The most important checks are the actual selling price, RAM and storage variant, storage technology, local camera configuration, supported 5G bands, software-support policy and charger contents. A discounted Y28s 5G can be a sensible basic 5G handset; at its listed MRP, it should be compared carefully with newer alternatives before purchase.
