The best visual PDF template editor depends on what the finished document must do. Choose Acrobat for applications, intake forms, agreements, or established business documents that need field behavior, calculations, signatures, or conversion from an existing office document. How to make a fillable PDF from a template
- Choose the source document. Start with a blank PDF, an existing PDF, or—in Acrobat—a Word file or scan. For a submission-driven workflow, decide whether you need a PDF populated from an online form instead of a standalone fillable document.
- Lay out the page. Use a design canvas such as Canva when brand styling and page composition lead. For a form-first document, keep labels close to their fields and leave enough space for real answers.
- Add actual form controls. In Acrobat or PDFescape, place the appropriate text, checkbox, radio, dropdown, date, or other supported field. Do not rely on a drawn box or underline to collect input.
