When Apple Intelligence was announced on July 1, 2024, reporting said Apple was still adapting it for visionOS and that Vision Pro would probably miss the first rollout. That delay mattered because Vision Pro’s unfamiliar eye-, hand-, voice- and spatial interface had more to gain from a genuinely capable assistant than Apple’s traditional screens did.
Apple eventually added Apple Intelligence in visionOS 2.4 on March 31, 2025. Apple now lists Vision Pro as compatible with the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI planned for visionOS 27 this fall, although features remain subject to language, region, software version and service availability.
What the 2024 headline actually meant
Inverse published Why the Vision Pro Needs Apple Intelligence the Most on July 1, 2024, during Apple’s initial Apple Intelligence announcement. “This fall” meant the fall 2024 release window for iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia—not the current 2026 schedule. Contemporary reporting said Apple was working out how to tailor Apple Intelligence to visionOS and that support was unlikely in the first launch window. It did not establish a permanent exclusion.
The initial Apple Intelligence rollout targeted selected iPhones, iPads and Macs, with writing assistance, notification and message summaries, image-generation tools and a new direction for Siri. Apple warned that hardware, language and regional availability would differ by feature.

Why Vision Pro had an unusually strong case for AI
A powerful interface with a steep learning curve
Vision Pro replaces familiar touchscreens and desktop pointers with eye tracking, hand gestures, voice input, floating windows and spatial placement. Those controls can feel natural once learned, but a new owner still has to discover where commands live and how applications behave. A more capable assistant could let users describe an outcome instead of hunting through menus.
- “Open the document I was editing yesterday.”
- “Move this window beside Safari.”
- “Make the text in this window larger.”
- “Start a FaceTime call with Alex.”
- “Find photos from our trip and arrange them as a spatial album.”
These are useful examples of what a spatial assistant could do, not a list of commands Apple has promised. Direct eye-and-hand manipulation can still be faster for simple actions.
Spatial computing needs orchestration
The headset’s value comes from coordinating windows, apps, environments, media and real-world context. An assistant that understands those relationships could become an orchestration layer rather than just a question-answering chatbot. It might explain an unfamiliar control, restore a previous workspace or help an accessibility user operate menus without precise gestures.
More context creates more opportunity—and more responsibility
Vision Pro combines voice, hand and eye input with the spatial arrangement of windows and objects. That could enable more useful contextual help than a conventional screen device, but it does not mean Apple or third-party apps can freely inspect everything a wearer sees. Apple’s privacy documentation says eye input is not shared with apps or websites. Read the Apple Vision Pro Privacy Overview for the documented boundaries.

The distinctive opportunity is spatial creation
Ordinary text generation would make Vision Pro more convenient, but AI-assisted spatial creation could make it more distinctive. Plausible applications include generating a 3D object, arranging spatial photographs, creating an interactive lesson, placing translated labels in the user’s field of view or building a more natural virtual workspace. These remain product opportunities unless Apple specifically announces them.
What happened after the delayed launch
| Time | What was known | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| July 1, 2024 | Reporting said visionOS support was unlikely in the initial fall 2024 Apple Intelligence rollout. | A reported launch-window expectation, not a permanent policy. |
| March 31, 2025 | Apple brought Apple Intelligence to Vision Pro with visionOS 2.4. | The original exclusion ended, but the Vision Pro implementation was version- and feature-specific. |
| June 8, 2026 | Apple announced the next generation of Apple Intelligence and a broader Siri AI overhaul for visionOS 27. | Apple lists Vision Pro as supported for the fall 2026 release; Apple had not given a specific public release date in the cited announcement. |
Apple’s Vision Pro newsroom archive records the visionOS 2.4 arrival. The first implementation is documented in Apple’s Get started with Apple Intelligence on Apple Vision Pro guide.
What Vision Pro actually received in visionOS 2.4
The support guide lists Apple Intelligence settings, Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji and ChatGPT integration. Availability depends on the installed visionOS release, supported language and region. “Apple Intelligence supported” therefore does not mean every Apple feature is present or enabled for every wearer.
Writing Tools
Writing Tools can help rewrite, proofread and summarize supported text. On a headset, that can be useful when composing messages or notes in a floating window, but it remains conventional text assistance rather than a spatial-native capability.

Image Playground and Genmoji
These tools add generative images and custom emoji to compatible workflows. They may be more enjoyable in a large virtual workspace, yet they do not by themselves solve window management, comfort or the scarcity of compelling spatial applications.
ChatGPT integration
Apple’s guide includes ChatGPT use through Apple Intelligence. The connection can require user consent, an account or external service availability, and it may involve cloud processing. Readers who require exclusively on-device processing should treat it as an optional integration rather than a core Vision Pro capability.
What should not be assumed
Apple’s other AI branding does not automatically map to visionOS. For example, Visual Intelligence available on some Apple devices should not be assumed to be available on Vision Pro unless Apple documents it for the user’s version and region. A Tom’s Guide review of the M5-era headset also noted uneven availability of Apple’s AI capabilities.
What visionOS 27 and Siri AI could change
In its June 8, 2026 announcements, Apple said the next Apple Intelligence generation would arrive this fall across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. Apple presents Siri AI as a deeper assistant overhaul, not merely another writing or image feature, and its compatibility list includes Apple Vision Pro.

The practical test is whether Siri can reliably understand spatial context and carry out multi-step actions: finding the right document, rearranging a workspace, changing display settings or moving information between apps. Apple has not, in the cited announcements, published a complete list of Vision Pro-specific commands, so those examples remain expectations rather than guarantees.
Availability is not universal. Apple says features vary by language and region and specifically says Siri AI and other new features are unavailable in China while regulatory requirements are addressed. A user may therefore receive visionOS 27 without receiving every advertised AI capability.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does AI fix Vision Pro’s central problems?
| AI can help with | AI cannot fix |
|---|---|
| Finding apps, files and settings | The headset’s high purchase cost |
| Hands-free and accessibility-oriented control | Weight, facial pressure and the battery tether |
| Complex, multi-window workflows | Social awkwardness and isolation |
| Personalized explanations and organization | A limited supply of spatial-native apps and content |
| Creating or arranging some media | The need for developers to build a durable ecosystem |
This is why “AI will save Vision Pro” is too strong. AI can reduce the learning curve and improve discoverability—the headset’s clearest software weakness—but it cannot make long sessions comfortable, lower the price or create demand for applications that do not exist.

Important trade-offs and failure modes
On-device processing is not the whole system
Apple Intelligence uses a mix of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. Cloud-backed actions can depend on a reliable connection, Apple’s servers, supported languages and service availability. A command that works at home may fail offline or during an outage.
Voice is convenient, but not always socially usable
Speaking commands helps when hands and eyes are occupied, yet it can be awkward in an office, on public transport or around family. Natural language is also not automatically faster than a familiar gesture for a one-step task.
Generated spatial content needs verification
A wrong sentence is inconvenient; an incorrect spatial object can have the wrong scale, depth or placement and disrupt orientation. Treat generated images, summaries and objects as drafts, not authoritative results.
Common reasons a feature appears to be missing
- The Vision Pro is not running the required visionOS version.
- The device language or country is unsupported.
- The feature is limited to a later visionOS release, such as visionOS 27.
- ChatGPT requires consent, an account or service availability.
- A cloud-dependent request has no reliable internet connection.
- Apple’s compatibility label is being mistaken for a promise that every feature works everywhere.
Should you buy or revisit Vision Pro for Apple Intelligence?
Existing owners
Owners who find window discovery, text entry or hands-free control frustrating have a clear reason to install supported updates and test Apple Intelligence. The improvement is most valuable when it shortens repeated workflows, not when it merely produces entertaining demos. Check the exact feature list for your language and region before expecting Siri AI.
Prospective buyers
Do not purchase Vision Pro solely on the promise of future Siri features. Buy it for the combination of immersive video, high-quality displays, spatial media and Apple ecosystem integration; treat Apple Intelligence as a usability enhancement. If your main goal is AI-assisted writing, summaries or image creation, a compatible iPhone, iPad or Mac is generally a more practical purchase with broader software support and easier social use.
Alternatives by priority
- Premium spatial work and media: Vision Pro, from Apple’s official product page.
- Lower-cost VR and gaming: Meta Quest, whose range is listed at meta.com/quest.
- Practical Apple Intelligence: an eligible iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Broader conversational AI: optional ChatGPT access at chatgpt.com, subject to its own account, plan and regional requirements.
The bottom line
Vision Pro was an unusually strong candidate for Apple Intelligence because a smart assistant could compensate for the friction of a new spatial interface. Apple did not deliver it in the fall 2024 launch window, but it added Apple Intelligence in visionOS 2.4 on March 31, 2025, and now lists Vision Pro for the fall 2026 visionOS 27 generation.
The decisive question is not whether Vision Pro has “Apple AI.” It is whether Siri AI becomes a reliable spatial assistant rather than a familiar collection of writing, image and chatbot tools inside an expensive headset. Until Apple documents the command set and regional availability, AI makes Vision Pro more usable and more differentiated—but not automatically affordable, comfortable or mainstream.
