Yes, screenshots can support a marketplace-policy appeal, but they are strongest as part of a dated evidence record rather than as stand-alone proof. Capture the complete policy and enforcement context—marketplace, page title, full URL, listing or account identifier, the exact visible rule, and a UTC timestamp. Keep an untouched original, record why it matters, and submit only the file types and records that the marketplace accepts.
The workflow below covers Etsy, eBay, Google Play, and Amazon, including their stated appeal rules and the limits of screenshot evidence.
What a credible compliance screenshot must show
A useful image lets a reviewer identify what was displayed, where it appeared, and when you saw it. Crop only derivative copies; preserve the original with all context visible.
- Marketplace and page title: Keep the site name and the browser tab or page heading.
- Full URL: Include the address bar in at least one capture, or record the exact URL in your evidence log.
- Listing, app, shop, or account identifier: Capture the identifier that connects the page to your enforcement notice.
- Policy language or status: Show the relevant rule, warning, rejection, removal, suspension, or “no issues” status—not just your product image.
- UTC time: Add the capture time to the log. If the page displays its own update date or policy version, preserve that too.
- Unmodified original: Save the first export unchanged; make highlighted or redacted copies for explanation and submission.
Do not imply that an image proves everything about a listing. A screenshot can establish what a page displayed at a particular time. It may not prove how an item was made, what happened in your account after the capture, or that the platform will reinstate a listing.

Capture evidence before a removal or appeal
1. Snapshot the governing policy
Open the policy page that applies to the listing or app. Capture the heading, the relevant paragraph, the full URL, and any “last updated” or version information. Policies and console labels change, so save a page-date note even when the site does not display a formal version number.
For Etsy, the seller remains responsible for compliance with shop and item policies, as Etsy states in its help guidance: “It is your responsibility to make sure your shop and its items are in compliance with Etsy’s policies.” Etsy’s policy guidance is therefore useful context for a contemporaneous record.
2. Capture the listing or app as published
Record the title, description, images, category, attributes, price, and identifier. For an app, capture the store listing and the functionality represented by each screenshot. If you edit a listing, take a new capture and link it to the edit record; do not overwrite the earlier file.
3. Capture the enforcement state
Save the removal notice, warning, account restriction, or policy-console status. Include the message ID, case number, or support-ticket URL when visible. A policy page without the enforcement context is difficult for a reviewer to connect to your case.

4. Gather non-screenshot corroboration
Link each image to the records that explain it: invoices, creation notes, raw-material receipts, workspace photographs, source or partner communications, packaging records, app build records, or a support ticket. These records often answer questions a static page cannot.
DIY browser capture: a repeatable procedure
- Prepare a clean session. Sign in to the correct seller or developer account, close unrelated tabs, and verify the listing or app identifier. Avoid changing the page while collecting evidence.
- Open the policy and the enforcement page. Keep the address bar available for at least one capture. If a page loads content after scrolling, scroll through it once so lazy-loaded text and images appear.
- Capture the complete page. In Chromium-based browsers, open the command menu with
Ctrl+Shift+P(Windows/Linux) orCommand+Shift+P(macOS), choose Capture full size screenshot, and save the PNG. Browser labels vary; use the equivalent full-page command in another browser. - Capture focused details. Take separate images of the policy paragraph, listing identifier, and enforcement status when the full-page image makes text too small. Keep the full-page original as the context file.
- Record UTC immediately. Write the timestamp, URL, account or listing ID, browser/device, and a one-sentence purpose in your evidence log before moving to the next page.
- Export without editing. Preserve the original PNG, JPEG, PDF, or browser export. Create an annotated copy with arrows or highlights and label it as a derivative.
- Repeat after material changes. A title edit, image replacement, policy update, or new warning gets a new capture and a new log entry.
For a long policy, a PDF print can supplement screenshots, but do not substitute a PDF for the image that shows the live URL and account context. Keep both when an appeal form accepts them.
Preserve integrity, privacy, and chain of custody
Keep originals immutable
Store originals in write-protected or versioned storage. If your process supports it, calculate a cryptographic hash and save the hash beside the file. Retain export metadata and the application used to create the file. A later annotation should never replace the first export.
Redact only derivatives
Buyer names, addresses, order numbers, and messages may be personal data. Preserve an access-controlled original where lawful, then redact a submission copy. Note what was redacted and why; do not blur the URL, policy text, listing ID, or timestamp needed to authenticate the evidence.

Use a contemporaneous evidence log
Give every file a stable name such as 2026-09-29T14-32Z_etsy_listing-123_policy-original.png. Your log should contain:
- File name, format, size, and hash (if used).
- UTC capture time and local time zone.
- Marketplace, account/shop/app, listing ID, and full URL.
- Policy title, visible version or update date, and the exact issue addressed.
- What the image shows and which invoice, edit, build, creation record, or ticket it supports.
- Whether the file is an untouched original or an annotated/redacted derivative.
- Storage location, access restrictions, and any transfer to an appeal form.

Etsy listing or account action
Start with a concise index: the removed listing ID, the rule, and the files that address it. Stay within the 12-file limit for eligible listing appeals and ensure every upload exceeds 120 KB. A finished-item image alone may not satisfy a creativity-standard question; pair it with process evidence where relevant. Confirm whether your case is a listing appeal or an account appeal, and check the applicable 180-day or six-month window on the live Etsy page.
eBay intellectual-property or selling-policy issue
Show that the media and descriptions were created by you or used with permission. Include the original asset record, license or approval if applicable, and the listing URL. Because the cited guidance does not state a universal upload limit or deadline, follow the requirements in the individual notice rather than assuming Etsy-style limits.
Google Play rejection, removal, or suspension

Keep source invoices, certificates, and correspondence in your controlled archive. The screenshot establishes the workflow state; the document carries the compliance detail.
What weakens screenshot evidence
- Context-free crops: A cropped product image does not identify the policy, URL, listing, or time.
- Edited originals: Marking up the only copy makes it harder to establish what was originally displayed.
- Stale policy pages: A capture without its update date may not match the rule in force when the listing was edited.
- Unexplained file names: Reviewers cannot connect “image7.png” to a listing or ticket without a log.
- Privacy leaks: Unredacted buyer data can create a separate problem; redact a derivative and restrict the original.
