There is no legitimate universal way to remove a Samsung account from a Galaxy phone or tablet without authenticating it. The supported solution is to recover or reset the Samsung-account password, then use the normal removal controls. A factory reset is not a substitute: it erases local data, but a Recovery-menu reset can trigger Google Device Protection (FRP), which is a separate lock.
This guide covers legitimate account recovery, Samsung’s authorized support route, and safe preparation for resale or repair. It does not provide bypass, cracking, flashing, or unauthorized-access instructions.
Identify which account or lock you are seeing
“Samsung account lock” is often used for several different systems. Match the message on the screen to the correct solution before resetting anything.

A Samsung account is used for Samsung services such as Galaxy Store, Samsung Cloud-related features, Samsung Pass and Find My Mobile/SmartThings Find. Google Device Protection belongs to Google and remains separate.

Remove the Samsung account when the phone is accessible
Samsung’s current common path is Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts → Samsung account → Remove account. On some phones, tap the Samsung-account profile at the top of Settings first. Samsung notes that labels and screens vary by model, carrier, country and One UI/Android version (Samsung’s account-removal guide; Samsung Canada instructions).
- Open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung-account name or open Accounts and backup.
- Choose Manage accounts, then Samsung account.
- Tap Remove account.
- Confirm and choose Sign out if that wording appears.
- Enter the Samsung-account password and tap OK, Done or the equivalent confirmation button.
Removing the account from the device signs it out locally and stops new synchronization. Depending on the service and sync state, synced contacts, notes, files or other Samsung data may disappear from the phone while remaining in the online account. This action does not necessarily unregister the device from your Samsung account, and it does not delete the online account itself (Samsung account-removal guidance).
Forgot the Samsung-account password? Recover it first
If the password prompt blocks sign-out, use Samsung’s official account sign-in and recovery process rather than resetting the phone. You may need access to the registered email address or phone number and must complete any identity or two-step verification Samsung presents. After the password is changed, return to the removal steps above.

- Use Samsung’s account-recovery option to reset the password.
- Complete email, phone or two-step verification checks.
- Sign in on the phone if requested, then repeat Remove account.
Changing a password can sign the account out on other devices. Samsung’s recovery screens and verification requirements can change, so follow the current prompts on Samsung’s account site or contact Samsung Support. If you no longer control the registered email address, recover that email account through its provider first.
Can a fingerprint or face scan replace the password?
Some Galaxy models and Samsung Pass configurations offer biometric verification during an account action. If an on-screen fingerprint or face option appears, you can try it. It is not a universal password bypass: availability depends on the model, One UI version, an existing Samsung Pass setup, a still-valid account session and whether Samsung is demanding fresh password authentication. Older devices document biometric options in some account flows (Galaxy user manual example).
Samsung account versus Google FRP
Removing a Samsung account does not remove Google Device Protection. Google protection can activate when a Google account is on the phone and a screen lock is configured. After an unauthorized factory reset through the Recovery menu, setup may require the Google account previously used on the device (Samsung’s Google Device Protection explanation).

For a planned sale or return, remove every Google account from the phone before resetting. When the device is accessible, use a reset from Settings rather than the Recovery menu; this is Samsung’s preferred way to avoid creating an FRP verification problem for the next owner.

If the phone is stuck at Google verification
- Enter the Google email address and password that were on the phone before the reset.
- If several accounts are possible, check each account’s device list through Google’s device-management tools.
- If you recently changed the Google password, wait before retrying. Samsung warns that a 24-hour security cooldown may apply in some cases.
- If you cannot recover the account, take the device and valid proof of purchase to an authorized Samsung Service Center. Samsung may require ownership evidence and does not promise to unlock every device.
Do not repeatedly reset the phone or follow “FRP bypass” videos, APKs or flashing guides. Those methods attempt to defeat an anti-theft control and can expose credentials, install malware or leave the device unusable.
Prepare a Galaxy device for sale, return or repair
- Back up photos, messages, contacts, files, authenticator data and app data.
- Remove the Samsung account using the authenticated Settings flow.
- Remove every Google account, plus work, school, Exchange and other accounts.
- Remove eSIM profiles and the physical SIM.
- Decrypt and remove a microSD card if you need its contents. Samsung warns an encrypted card may become unreadable after a reset.
- With the phone unlocked, run the factory reset from Settings, not Recovery.
- Let the device restart to the initial setup screen and verify that it does not request the previous owner’s account.
- Unregister the device from relevant Samsung and Google account dashboards.
Account removal is different from permanent Samsung-account deletion. Deleting the online account can affect purchase history, subscriptions, uploaded content and profile information; use Samsung’s account-management guidance before choosing that option (Samsung account management).
Broken, offline or non-booting devices
If the phone remains linked to you, back up whatever is still accessible and use Samsung’s supported remote-device tools where available to secure or erase it. Remote erasure protects data; it does not guarantee that Samsung or Google account protections disappear.
For a device sent to repair, Samsung’s carry-in preparation guide recommends removing the Google account where possible and using remote erase when a normal reset cannot be completed (Samsung carry-in service guide). Contact Samsung Repair Services for service-center options. Repair eligibility and cost depend on diagnosis, warranty status and repair type.

Work or school phones
Enterprise management, Knox enrollment or an organization’s Google account may remain after consumer account recovery. The former employer or school administrator must remove the management record.

Second-hand phones
The previous owner must remove both Samsung and Google accounts before handing over the device. A marketplace receipt may not meet Samsung’s ownership-verification requirements. If the seller cannot release the phone, request a refund through the marketplace.
Lost, stolen, financed or blacklisted devices
Do not try to remove or bypass protections on a device that is lost, stolen, carrier-blacklisted or subject to financing. Contact the rightful owner, carrier, lender or authorities as appropriate. A factory reset does not clear a carrier blacklist, financing obligation, theft report or enterprise enrollment.

- Changing a Google password and immediately retrying it at the FRP screen.
- Ignoring work, school or Exchange accounts.

- Paying for software that promises guaranteed Samsung-account or FRP removal without proof of ownership.
If credentials cannot be recovered, start with Samsung Support and its authorized service locator. Legitimate service may require a receipt and device-identifying information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remove a Samsung account without knowing the password?
Not through Samsung’s normal supported flow. Recover or reset the Samsung-account password first; some devices may offer biometric verification, but it is not guaranteed.
Does a factory reset remove the Samsung account?
A reset erases local data but does not necessarily delete the online Samsung account. A Recovery-menu reset can also trigger Google Device Protection.
Is a Samsung account the same as Google FRP?
No. Samsung-account sign-out and Google Device Protection are separate systems with different credentials.

Can I use my phone PIN instead?
The screen-lock PIN is not normally a substitute for the Samsung-account password. Use a biometric option only if the phone explicitly offers it.

Recover each account through its respective provider. If the phone is FRP-locked and recovery fails, contact an authorized Samsung service center with proof of purchase.
Can Samsung unlock a phone without a receipt?
Do not assume so. Samsung may require valid proof of purchase and can decline service when ownership is unclear.
Will removing the Samsung account delete cloud data?
Removing it from the phone can remove synced copies locally, while data may remain online. Permanently deleting the Samsung account has broader consequences.
What if the phone is managed by a company or school?
The organization’s administrator must release enterprise or Knox management; consumer account recovery may not remove it.
