If a Twitch banner is missing, first check where it should appear: Twitch has separate Profile Banner and Video Player Banner settings. A profile banner brands the channel page; a video-player banner is associated with the player when the channel is offline. Uploading one will not necessarily put it in the other location.
Identify which Twitch image is missing

Fix a profile banner that is not showing
- Sign in to Twitch and open your profile menu.
- Select Creator Dashboard, then go to Settings → Channel → Brand.
- Find Profile Banner, select Update, and choose your image.
- Save or confirm if Twitch presents another confirmation control.
- Open your public channel page in a separate or private window to check the result.
Twitch recommends a 1200 × 480 px profile banner. Its help documentation lists JPEG, PNG, and GIF formats; a localized account-settings article lists a 10 MB maximum for profile banners. Because file limits can vary by image field and documentation locale, do not assume that limit applies to every Twitch graphic. Check the specific field if Twitch rejects a file. The current setup instructions also note that the page scales with browser width. Keep logos and essential text toward the left and away from the extreme edges, then check both wide and narrow layouts. The image may be present but cropped, scaled down, or hard to distinguish from the page background.

Fix a video-player banner that is missing
The Video Player Banner is separate from the Profile Banner and relates to the offline player. In Creator Dashboard → Settings → Channel → Brand, make sure you updated the Video Player Banner field rather than Profile Banner. Twitch says animated video-player banners are not natively supported, so use a static image if you want the most predictable result.
- Confirm your channel is offline.
- Check that the image is saved in the Video Player Banner field.
- View the normal public Twitch channel page while logged out or in a private window.
- Check whether another offline-page element, such as a trailer or video, is what you are seeing.
- Only after checking the channel page, test an embed separately.
Do not assume an offline image will appear identically in every Twitch surface. The channel page can include trailers, videos, schedules, panels, and other elements, while embedded players are a separate test case. Older developer-forum reports describe offline-image problems in embeds, but they are historical reports, not proof of current universal behavior: offline image report and embed banner report.
Work through these checks in order
- Verify the exact field. Match the intended location to Profile Banner or Video Player Banner.
- Check the saved image. Reopen Brand settings and confirm the image is selected rather than reverted or absent.
- Try a standard export. Use a fresh 1200 × 480 JPEG or PNG for a profile banner, with a reasonable file size. If an upload fails, a smaller file or a newly exported copy can rule out a file-specific issue. These are practical checks, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
- Refresh the public view. Hard-refresh the page, then check in a private window or while logged out. An already-open tab may show an older state.
- Compare environments. Try a second browser, device, or network, and check desktop and mobile layouts.
- Check Twitch Status. If several Twitch assets or features are failing, check Twitch Status. A green status does not rule out an account-specific upload or display problem.
- Contact Twitch Support. If a valid file repeatedly fails across browsers and devices, or the saved image remains missing publicly after these checks, include the image type, file format and dimensions, the steps you tried, and screenshots of the dashboard and public page.
Why your banner looks different on desktop and mobile
Twitch scales the channel page with the viewer’s browser width, so the same source image may appear differently across desktop and mobile. A banner designed for another aspect ratio can look like it has disappeared if its important content falls outside the visible area. Start with Twitch’s recommended 1200 × 480 canvas, keep key artwork toward the left, and preview more than one viewport. There is no reason to assume a single crop will look identical everywhere.

A dashboard preview and a public channel page can temporarily disagree, and an open browser tab may retain an older image. Hard-refresh, check logged out or in a private window, and compare another browser or device. If the new image is not visible immediately, check again later; Twitch does not promise a universal update time in the cited setup documentation. A private-window test helps rule out some local cache and extension issues, but it cannot prove that every Twitch rendering path has updated.

When the issue may be on Twitch’s side
A local layout or cache issue is less likely if the upload repeatedly fails with a standard file, the saved image is missing across browsers, or several Twitch channel assets fail at once. Check Twitch Status for a broad incident, then contact Twitch Support if the issue persists. Remember that trailer eligibility is a separate matter: Twitch says Channel Trailers are currently available to Affiliates and Partners; that restriction does not automatically apply to Profile Banners.
Other image types have their own rules. For example, Twitch documents Info Panel image limits separately from banners. Do not apply panel or profile-picture file limits to a banner field without checking that field’s instructions.
