TP-Link Japan announced two Wi-Fi 7 networking products on January 15, 2026: the tri-band Deco BE68 mesh system and the dual-band Archer GE400 gaming router. Japanese sales were scheduled to begin on January 29, 2026.
They target different homes. The Deco BE68 is designed for whole-home coverage, 6GHz connectivity, multi-gigabit networking and mesh expansion. The Archer GE400 is a conventional central router focused on gaming controls, two 2.5Gbps Ethernet links and a lower launch price. The prices below are Japanese tax-included suggested prices, not confirmed US or global pricing.

Deco BE68: a higher-end Wi-Fi 7 mesh platform
The Deco BE68 is the more technically expansive of the two products. Its BE14000 designation comes from the aggregate advertised wireless link rates across three radios: up to 8,647Mbps on 6GHz, 4,324Mbps on 5GHz and 688Mbps on 2.4GHz.

Its tri-band design gives compatible Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices access to the 6GHz band, which can offer more available spectrum and shorter-range high-throughput connections. The 6GHz band is not a universal performance upgrade, however. Range through walls is generally more limited than 5GHz, and usable channel widths depend on local regulation, interference and client support.
Ports and backhaul
The BE68 has one 10Gbps WAN/LAN port, one 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN port and one 1Gbps WAN/LAN port, plus a USB 3.0 port. This makes it a better fit than the GE400 for homes with multi-gigabit internet, a 10Gbps-capable NAS, a workstation with a fast network interface or a high-speed wired backbone.
Each node can use Ethernet backhaul, wireless backhaul or a combination of wired and wireless backhaul. For a multi-node installation, wired backhaul is generally the more consistent option because it avoids using wireless capacity to connect the nodes. A wireless node still needs to be placed where it has a strong connection to the primary node; putting it inside the dead zone usually produces a larger but slower network.

TP-Link claims coverage of up to 752 square metres and support for up to 200 connected devices, depending on the pack, building layout and network conditions. Those are manufacturer claims rather than guarantees for every home. Walls, floors, interference, node placement and the capabilities of client devices can materially change the result. The Deco BE68 product page lists the coverage, capacity and feature details.

Wi-Fi 7 features
The BE68 supports Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4K-QAM, Multi-RU and channels up to 320MHz where supported.
- MLO: Compatible devices can use multiple links or bands in ways intended to improve throughput, reliability or latency. It does not mean every device automatically receives the sum of all advertised radio rates.
- 320MHz channels: Wider channels can increase capacity, but they require compatible clients, suitable spectrum and regulatory approval. They may be unavailable or impractical in some locations.
- 4K-QAM: Higher-order modulation can raise link rates under strong signal conditions. The benefit falls with distance, interference or incompatible hardware.
- Multi-RU: More efficient resource-unit allocation can help a Wi-Fi network serve multiple clients.
For Japanese users, TP-Link also lists IPv6 IPoE compatibility including v6 Plus, Virtual Connect and DS-Lite. These are Japanese ISP technologies and should not be assumed to apply to broadband services in other countries.
Archer GE400: a focused gaming router
The Archer GE400 is a standalone dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router. It is rated at up to 5,765Mbps on 5GHz and 688Mbps on 2.4GHz, giving it the BE6500 class designation. Unlike the BE68, it has no 6GHz radio.

Its wired layout includes a 2.5Gbps WAN port, a 2.5Gbps LAN port, three 1Gbps LAN ports and one USB 3.0 port. That is enough for a 2.5Gbps broadband connection and several wired clients, but it does not offer the BE68’s 10Gbps Ethernet interface.

Gaming features
TP-Link positions the GE400 around Game Boost traffic optimization, a Game Panel dashboard and GPN, or Gamer Private Network. The router also has customizable RGB lighting and a racing-inspired chassis. It supports EasyMesh, so it can participate in a compatible EasyMesh network if coverage later becomes a problem.
These features are management tools, not proof that every game will have a lower ping. Actual gaming latency depends on the game server, ISP routing, broadband congestion, Wi-Fi conditions and whether the gaming device uses Ethernet. TP-Link’s descriptions of Game Boost and GPN should not be treated as independently measured performance results. The Archer GE400 product page contains the product’s listed features.
HomeShield security and parental-control features are also listed, but feature availability and any optional paid tier can vary by region and change over time. WPA3 support likewise does not guarantee that every older client will work in WPA3-only mode; mixed WPA2/WPA3 operation may be necessary.
Which TP-Link model fits your home?
Choose the Deco BE68 when coverage is the main problem
- You need reliable service across several rooms or floors.
- Your home has dead zones or difficult construction materials.
- You can connect mesh nodes with Ethernet backhaul.
- You have several high-bandwidth users, such as people streaming, gaming, working remotely and transferring large files at the same time.
- You need a 10Gbps Ethernet port for broadband, local networking, a NAS or a workstation.
- You want to expand a Deco system with additional compatible Deco nodes.
The BE68 is the broader platform: it adds a 6GHz radio, more aggregate wireless capacity, a 10Gbps interface and a purpose-built multi-node ecosystem. Its two-pack price is also aimed at larger homes rather than buyers seeking the least expensive Wi-Fi 7 upgrade.

Choose the Archer GE400 when one router is enough
- A centrally placed router can cover the home adequately.
- You prioritize gaming controls and a gaming-oriented dashboard.
- Two 2.5Gbps wired links meet your networking requirements.
- You prefer a conventional router instead of deploying multiple mesh nodes.
- RGB lighting and gaming styling matter to you.
- You want the option of EasyMesh expansion without starting with a full Deco system.
The GE400 is the more focused and less expensive Japanese launch option. It is not automatically faster for gaming simply because it is marketed as a gaming router. A wired connection from the gaming device, sensible traffic management and a good ISP route can matter more than branding or peak Wi-Fi specifications.

The “14Gbps” BE14000 and “6.5Gbps” BE6500 figures are aggregate maximum PHY-layer link rates derived from Wi-Fi specifications. They are not expected internet throughput and should not be read as single-device download speeds.
Real performance depends on the client’s Wi-Fi generation and antenna configuration, channel width, distance, walls, interference, the number of active devices, backhaul configuration, ISP speed and the capabilities of Ethernet switches and network adapters. A Wi-Fi 7 router also cannot make a Wi-Fi 5 phone or a 1Gbps internet plan operate at Wi-Fi 7 speeds.

A buyer needs an appropriately capable modem or optical network terminal, suitable cabling, a 10Gbps switch or client NIC where necessary, and a broadband plan above 1Gbps. The port is future-proofing; it is not a broadband-speed upgrade by itself.

Availability, firmware and regional cautions
This was a Japan-market announcement. TP-Link Japan listed Japanese sales from January 29, 2026, with suggested tax-included prices of ¥39,380 for a one-pack BE68, ¥71,280 for a two-pack and ¥29,480 for the GE400. Both products were listed with three-year Japanese warranties.
TP-Link also has US support pages for both products, including pages identifying V1.60 downloads. Those support pages establish that US-region support material exists, but they do not by themselves establish a US launch date, US retail price, identical hardware, identical firmware or identical warranty terms. Buyers outside Japan should check the TP-Link site and retailer for their own country.
Firmware should be downloaded from the official TP-Link site for the device’s purchase region and hardware revision. Do not cross-flash firmware from another market. TP-Link Japan’s BE68 V1 support page lists firmware V1.3.0 Build 20260508, published June 2, 2026, with a fix for an internet-disconnection issue occurring every 24 hours in a particular environment. That is a reminder to check regional release notes when troubleshooting rather than assuming all revisions share the same software.

Bottom line
The Deco BE68 is the stronger choice for whole-home coverage, 6GHz Wi-Fi, wired mesh backhaul, multi-gigabit local networking and future expansion. The Archer GE400 makes more sense for a gamer who needs one central router, gaming-management features and 2.5Gbps connectivity but does not need a tri-band mesh system.
Neither product’s headline Wi-Fi rate guarantees real-world throughput or lower gaming latency. Choose based on your home’s layout, client devices, wired infrastructure and broadband speed—not solely on the BE14000 or BE6500 label.
