The best visual feedback tool depends on what is being reviewed. BugHerd, Marker.io, Usersnap, Pastel, MarkUp.io and Atarim are aimed at comments on live or staging websites. Figma keeps feedback inside design files and prototypes. Filestage and Ziflow add formal proofing and approval stages, while Frame.io is built around time-coded video review. Adobe Acrobat and Foxit remain document-specific PDF markup tools.

Choose by review workflow, not by feature count
Start with the asset and the handoff you need. A website bug report, a Figma comment and a legal PDF approval are all “feedback,” but they require different anchors and records.

7. Figma — collaboration inside design files and prototypes
Figma is the natural choice when the source of truth is a UI/UX design file or prototype. Comments stay on the design canvas and collaborators can discuss a proposed state before it is deployed. Foxit is also listed as a PDF markup option. Compare its current annotation, sharing, commenting and approval capabilities with the PDF edition your organization already licenses. It should not be evaluated as a replacement for element-level website QA.

GoVisually is listed among tools for visual or video proofing. It is worth considering when a review spans creative assets and needs a shared annotation space. Validate present support for your file formats, review stages, versioning and approval records.

15. Markup Hero — general visual annotation
Markup Hero appears in the additional visual-annotation coverage. It can be relevant for quick screenshots and image markups, but the available material does not establish its current project governance, guest access or integrations. Treat it as a candidate to verify rather than a universal recommendation. Wipster is another product named in the same coverage for visual/video proofing; include it in a shortlist only after checking its current scope, codecs, storage and version workflow.
How to match a tool to a real review
For a live or staging website
- Decide whether the reviewer must click the exact element or can comment on a captured page.
- Require the report to retain the URL, viewport and browser/device context when a developer will reproduce the issue.
- Give clients a guest link or widget only if the product and plan allow it; test the link in a private browser window.
- Route accepted comments to an assignee or task board, then close the loop by resolving the original pin.
BugHerd, Marker.io, Usersnap, Pastel, MarkUp.io and Atarim belong in this branch. A design-file tool alone will not reveal a CSS regression that exists only after deployment.
For a design file or prototype
Keep the source file authoritative and use canvas comments for rationale, component questions and visual alternatives. Figma is the clearest fit in this set. Capture a separate browser review when typography, responsive behavior, loading states or third-party widgets could change in production.
For structured creative proofing
Use Filestage or Ziflow when a project needs named stages such as “internal review,” “client review” and “approved,” with versions and an audit trail. This is different from an informal comment canvas: the value is governance and sign-off.
For video
Choose a time-coded workflow such as Frame.io, or a proofing product that explicitly supports frame-level review. Confirm codecs and storage before uploading a production master; a tool that accepts a preview file may not accept your delivery format.
For PDFs and documents
Adobe Acrobat and Foxit are purpose-built for page-level markup. Establish whether comments, redactions and approvals must remain in the PDF itself or be exported to another system.

Can clients leave design feedback without creating an account?
Sometimes, but it is product- and plan-specific. Pastel’s feature page describes unlimited guests, while the broader comparison material says guest access should be checked for each product. Test the exact share link, comment submission and notification path as an unauthenticated user before sending it to a client. If sign-in is required, explain that requirement in the invitation and provide one named owner for account recovery.
What makes a website report actionable?
- Exact location: a pin on the element or a clearly marked screenshot.
- Reproduction: URL, steps, expected result and observed result.

Troubleshooting common review failures
The pin is in the wrong place
Check whether the page shifted after fonts, images or responsive CSS loaded. Wait for a stable selector or network idle, then recapture at the reviewer’s viewport. For a live-site tool, include the URL and viewport in the report.

A client cannot comment

Comments do not reach the work queue

A video or PDF will not upload

Store the reviewed version, the approval identity, the date, the exact page or frame, and any conditions such as device, viewport or file format. This prevents a later approval from being applied to a different artifact.
When is an API screenshot preferable to a browser extension?
Use an API when captures must run on a schedule, in bulk, from CI or through an AI agent, or when every image needs the same viewport and cleanup rules. Use an extension when a human needs to mark up an ad-hoc page immediately.
