The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus both use USB-C. Choose USB-A to USB-C if you still charge from the original Samsung adapter, an older car charger, USB-A laptop port, or USB-A power bank. Choose USB-C to USB-C for a modern USB-C wall charger, laptop, hub, or power bank.
Neither phone needs a proprietary cable. A well-made cable from Samsung, Anker, Belkin, or another reputable brand is sufficient. The S9 generation supports wired fast charging compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0; a 60W, 100W, or 240W cable will not make it charge like a newer 25W or 45W Galaxy. The charger, phone, cable, and negotiated protocol determine the result.

Micro-USB and USB-C-to-Lightning cables are not direct replacements. Samsung identifies the S9 and S9 Plus as USB 3.1 Type-C phones, but the cable and connected equipment still control practical data speed. A cable may charge perfectly while only providing USB 2.0 transfers.

Belkin BoostCharge USB-A to USB-C 15W, 3.3 ft — best budget replacement
This short, mainstream cable is a good desk, car, or travel replacement. Belkin lists compatibility with Galaxy S25 and earlier generations, which includes the S9 family, and the official US page showed $7.99 during research. Its 15W labeling should not be read as a promise that every S9 setup will charge at exactly 15W.

The 6.6-foot version is more convenient beside a bed or sofa than a 3-foot lead without the bulk of a 10-foot cable. Belkin listed the black model at $9.99 and advertises up to 300,000 bends and 20,000 plugs for this family; those are manufacturer figures. It remains a USB-A solution, so it does not plug directly into a USB-C-only charger.

A two-pack is practical for separate rooms, a car, or a spare bag. Anker lists S9/S9+ compatibility and QC charging for this family. Confirm the exact US length, variant, warranty, and current price before ordering because listings can change.

Choose this arrangement when your chargers still have USB-A sockets but you want two conventional, nylon-jacketed spares. Belkin USB-C to USB-A CAB001 series, up to 9.8 ft — best maximum reach
Belkin offers 3.3-, 6.6-, and 9.8-foot versions. The 9.8-foot black model was listed at $19.99 and suits an outlet far from a bed or desk. Long cables add bulk and can experience more voltage drop, particularly when thin or poorly made, so buy this length only when you need it.

This is the straightforward choice for a USB-C charger or power bank. Belkin specifically identifies Galaxy S9 compatibility, but also states that the cable meets USB 2.0 specifications. It is suitable for charging and ordinary synchronization, not the best choice for maximum-speed transfers or demanding USB-C peripherals.

Anker 60W USB-C-to-USB-C nylon or braided cable — best future-proof choice
A reputable 60W USB-C cable can consolidate charging for newer phones, tablets, and some accessories. It does not increase the S9/S9 Plus charging ceiling. Check the exact model’s length, data rate, e-marker requirements, warranty, and whether it supports USB 2.0 or USB 3.x before buying.

Samsung replacement USB Type-C cable — best first-party option
Samsung branding is appealing if you want first-party support, but S9-era cables are frequently sold through third-party marketplace listings. Use only a current Samsung-controlled listing with a clear model number, seller, warranty, and connector arrangement. Do not assume an “OEM” marketplace description is an official Samsung product.

How to choose beyond the connector
Charging protocol and current
The S9 series supports fast wired charging compatible with Quick Charge 2.0. A reputable 3A cable is adequate for this phone when paired with a compatible adapter. Higher current and wattage ratings mainly benefit newer phones and laptops. The cable cannot overcome a low-power computer port, an incompatible USB-C PD charger, heat, or a damaged port.

Data speed
Buy a charging-first cable when you only need power. Choose a cable explicitly marked USB 2.0 for normal synchronization, or USB 3.x when you need faster file transfers or peripherals. Do not infer speed from the USB-C plug or a 100W label. Belkin’s F2CU074, for example, is USB 2.0 despite being USB-C-to-C.
Length and construction
- 3 ft / 1 m: desks, cars, travel and power banks.
- 6 ft / 2 m: the best general home default.
- 9–10 ft / 3 m: only when the outlet is genuinely distant.
Soft silicone is flexible; braided jackets resist surface abrasion but may be stiffer. Look for reinforced strain relief, a well-molded plug, a stated model number, a real warranty and, where claimed, USB-IF certification. A slim plug can help with rugged phone cases. Never force a connector that does not seat fully.
Troubleshooting
Fast charging does not appear
- Confirm that the adapter supports Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging or QC 2.0.
- Try another outlet, cable and charger; computer ports and basic car ports may be slow.
- Fully insert the plug and check that the case is not obstructing it.
- Check the phone’s fast-cable-charging setting if your software version exposes one.
- Let an overheated phone cool, and inspect the USB-C port for lint.

It charges but will not transfer files
The cable may be power-only, USB 2.0, damaged, or connected through a faulty hub. Unlock the phone, open the USB notification and select the file-transfer option when offered; wording varies by Android and Samsung software version. Try a known data-rated cable and a direct computer port.
The plug is loose or the cable gets hot
Power the phone off and gently remove pocket lint with a nonmetallic tool—never use metal pins or liquid. A loose connection can indicate a worn port or out-of-tolerance plug. Stop using any cable or connector that becomes excessively hot, smells, discolors, melts, or charges intermittently; replace the cable and inspect the charger and phone.
Bottom line
For most S9 and S9 Plus owners with older accessories, buy the Anker Upcycled-Braided USB-A-to-USB-C or the less expensive Belkin BoostCharge 15W. Choose the 6.6-foot Belkin for extra reach, a two-pack for multiple locations, and USB-C-to-C only when your charger actually has a USB-C port. Spend extra on verified construction and the right data specification—not a 240W number the S9 cannot exploit.
