Stardew Valley is the best all-round pick if you want a long, flexible adventure that mixes exploration, farming, relationships, crafting and quests. For a shorter puzzle journey, choose Monument Valley 2; for open-ended building and exploration, choose Minecraft. “Adventure” here includes games centered on discovery, story, puzzles, survival or player-directed progress—not just action games. Store availability, prices and age ratings vary by country and can change.

The list includes premium games, optional-purchase ecosystems and subscription-linked editions. A game’s presence in one store does not establish availability in every country or on both mobile platforms; check the linked listing for your device before buying. The ranking is editorial, based on adventure depth, mobile suitability, value and how distinctive each game is.

Quick comparison

Game Best for Adventure style Cost model Main trade-off
Stardew Valley Most players; long-term progression Cozy exploration and life simulation Premium; Play Pass inclusion may vary Farming is a major part of the experience; mobile multiplayer is not supported
Minecraft Freedom and open-ended play Sandbox exploration and building Premium; optional Marketplace and Realms Little guided story; touch controls can be less precise
Monument Valley 2 Short, polished puzzle sessions Optical-illusion puzzle adventure Premium Shorter and less replayable than the sandbox games
The Room: Old Sins Tactile mystery puzzles Object-based investigation Premium Linear and puzzle-heavy
Terraria 2D exploration and combat Action-adventure sandbox Premium Many systems and controls to learn
Machinarium Classic point-and-click fans Wordless puzzle adventure Premium Some puzzles can be opaque; small targets may be harder on phones
GRIS Atmosphere, art and music Exploration platformer Premium Less dialogue and traditional puzzle interaction
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition Survival challenge Exploration, crafting and resource management Premium Intentionally punishing, with limited onboarding
OXENFREE Story and supernatural mystery Dialogue-driven narrative adventure Mobile access can be subscription-linked Android and iOS listings cited here are for different installments
Alto’s Odyssey Relaxed, brief sessions Endless-runner-style exploration Check the current edition’s listing for ads and purchases Not a conventional story adventure

Offline and controller behavior can differ by feature, platform and edition. The table avoids treating a store listing for one platform as proof of identical support on another.

1. Stardew Valley: best all-round adventure

Verdict: Pick this if you want one mobile game with enough variety for both quick visits and a long-running save. You restore and develop a farm, but the adventure extends into nearby areas, caves, quests, fishing, crafting, festivals and relationships. The official site describes the farming, community, customization and cave elements.

The Android listing advertises more than 50 hours of content, autosave and multiple control options, and says the mobile game has no in-app purchases. It also states that multiplayer is not supported in the mobile version. These are Android-listing details, not a claim that every feature is identical on iOS. Check the Google Play listing and your local store for current price, device requirements and availability. Its reported regional price is not a worldwide price; the listing has also shown Play Pass inclusion, which may change.

  • Best for: Cozy exploration, progression and players who like setting their own pace.
  • Trade-off: It is as much farming and life simulation as a conventional story adventure.
  • Mobile note: The Android listing mentions autosave and control options; mobile multiplayer is absent.

2. Minecraft: best open-world adventure

Verdict: Choose Minecraft when you would rather decide what the adventure is than follow a fixed plot. Explore generated worlds, gather resources, build, craft and switch between Survival and Creative play. The Android listing describes solo and multiplayer play, offline play, Marketplace content and private Realms; those connected services are separate from simply playing the installed single-player game. See Google Play and the US App Store listing for platform-specific purchasing and requirements.

The base game is a premium purchase, while Marketplace content and Realms offer optional additional spending. An Android store snapshot showed $6.99, but prices vary by storefront and location. Touch controls work, though precision building and combat can be less comfortable than with a controller. Multiplayer depends on the service, account and setup involved; do not assume that offline play includes online features.

  • Best for: Creative players, explorers and groups who want a sandbox.
  • Trade-off: It offers less guided narrative than the story-focused picks.

3. Monument Valley 2: best short puzzle adventure

Verdict: This is the strongest choice here for a compact, low-pressure journey built around visual puzzles. Guide Ro and her child through structures that shift according to perspective, manipulating architecture to open a path. The US App Store listing describes it as a standalone adventure; the Google Play listing is the Android store reference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a premium puzzle adventure, not an action game. Its elegant presentation and touch-friendly interactions are the draw; its relatively short, less replayable structure is the compromise beside games built for long-term progression. Check the local store for current price and compatibility.

  • Best for: Short sessions, visual design and puzzles that do not demand fast reactions.
  • Trade-off: Choose another entry if you want a large world or extensive replay value.

4. The Room: Old Sins: best tactile mystery puzzle

Verdict: Choose this if you want to inspect strange objects closely and solve a mystery through hands-on puzzle solving. Its central setting is an elaborate dollhouse filled with mechanisms to manipulate and clues to investigate. The US App Store listing describes its puzzle-game structure and mystery.

  • HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone

This is a premium, linear experience with little action or character interaction: the pleasure comes from examining an object, working out how it moves and discovering what that reveals. Touch input is a natural fit for turning and manipulating objects. The cited listing is for iOS; check your regional store for current platform availability, price and requirements before purchase.

  • Best for: Escape-room fans and patient puzzle solvers.
  • Trade-off: It is not a broad exploration game, and its path is largely set by the puzzles.

5. Terraria: best 2D exploration adventure

Verdict: Terraria is for players who want to dig into a world and make their own goals, with combat and equipment progression alongside building and crafting. Explore underground, gather materials, construct a base and work toward increasingly challenging encounters. The US App Store listing is a current iOS store reference; check the live listing for your device and region before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compared with Minecraft’s three-dimensional sandbox, Terraria presents exploration as a dense 2D action-adventure. Its systems and on-screen buttons can overwhelm newcomers, and mobile controls may take time to learn. The available source here does not establish current controller support or identical Android and iOS requirements, so check each platform’s listing rather than assuming parity.

  • Best for: Players who enjoy exploration with combat, crafting and clear equipment progression.
  • Trade-off: The opening is less guided than a narrative adventure, and the interface can feel busy.

6. Machinarium: best classic point-and-click adventure

Verdict: Choose Machinarium for a hand-drawn, wordless journey where progress comes from noticing details and solving environmental puzzles. You guide a small robot through a crafted world, using visual clues rather than dialogue-heavy exposition. The US App Store listing identifies it as a premium puzzle adventure.

Its visual storytelling suits players who prefer observation to combat, but some puzzles can be difficult to read without hints. On a phone, small interactive details may be easier to miss than on a tablet. The cited source confirms an iOS listing; verify current Android availability and price in your own store before choosing it as a cross-platform purchase.

  • Best for: Fans of traditional adventure puzzles and distinctive hand-drawn settings.
  • Trade-off: It can be opaque if you prefer explicit directions or frequent dialogue.

7. GRIS: best atmospheric exploration platformer

Verdict: GRIS is the pick for a visually led journey that emphasizes mood, music and gradual discovery. Exploration and platforming are joined by abilities that let you reach new areas; the story is largely nonverbal. Its US App Store listing describes that exploration-platforming structure.

  • Smooth Performance: Handles your favorite apps, games, and multitasking without slowing down, with plenty of space for all your photos and videos.

  • All-Day Battery: Stay powered all day with our 5,000mAh battery, and recharge in a flash with our 66W quick charge technology that tops you up from 0 to 100% in just 20 minutes.

Think of it as an exploration platformer rather than a point-and-click adventure. It offers less dialogue and puzzle complexity than the genre’s more traditional entries, and the feel of platforming can vary with screen size and touch controls. The cited listing is for iOS; confirm availability and device requirements in the store for your platform.

  • Best for: Players who value atmosphere, visual storytelling and music.
  • Trade-off: Not the right choice if you want extensive dialogue or complex puzzle systems.

8. Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition: best survival adventure

Verdict: Pick Don’t Starve if you want exploration to feel risky. You must manage hunger, sanity, weather and threats while gathering resources and crafting what might keep you alive. The Google Play listing frames the mobile edition around survival, crafting and danger.

This is not a cozy adventure despite its stylized look: failure and experimentation are part of its challenge, and the onboarding is not especially gentle. Managing inventory and controls on a small screen can also be less convenient. The cited source is an Android listing; confirm the current edition, platform availability and requirements locally before buying.

  • Best for: Players who enjoy learning systems through trial, error and resource planning.
  • Trade-off: Its pressure and punishment make it a poor fit for relaxed play.

9. OXENFREE: best narrative mystery

Verdict: OXENFREE suits players who want a supernatural mystery carried by conversation, relationships and exploration. A radio mechanic is part of its identity, while branching dialogue gives conversations weight. The US App Store listing is for the original OXENFREE; the cited Google Play listing is for OXENFREE II: Lost Signals, a different installment.

Do not treat those store links as evidence that the same game is available on both platforms or that access works the same way. Netflix has distributed mobile editions of OXENFREE titles in some markets and periods; eligibility, subscription requirements and the current catalog can vary. Check the exact title, publisher and access terms in your regional store before installing. Mechanically, this is more about dialogue and atmosphere than elaborate puzzles or varied action.

  • Best for: Story-first players who want an eerie mystery and character dynamics.
  • Trade-off: It offers less mechanical variety than the exploration and survival games.

10. Alto’s Odyssey: best relaxed exploration

Verdict: Alto’s Odyssey is a good fit for brief, flowing sessions when a story or complicated interface is not what you want. Its simple controls send you through changing landscapes, with objectives and collectibles providing direction. The Google Play listing and US App Store listing are the places to check the current edition and terms for your platform.

Structurally, it is closer to an endless runner than a conventional narrative adventure, so it belongs here for its sense of journey and exploration rather than story depth. Confirm whether the edition you install includes ads, optional purchases or a premium unlock; monetization can differ by platform and edition.

  • Best for: Relaxed play, commutes and players who prefer simple controls.
  • Trade-off: It does not offer the guided plot or extensive progression of the longer games.

How to choose the right adventure game

For the most content and flexible progression

Start with Stardew Valley if you enjoy deciding how to spend each session and do not mind that farming and relationships occupy much of the game. Choose Minecraft instead if building, survival and multiplayer freedom matter more than a structured story.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a short or touch-first puzzle

Monument Valley 2 is the better fit for elegant optical puzzles and a compact journey. The Room: Old Sins is for players who want to inspect and manipulate objects as part of a mystery; Machinarium leans toward classic visual adventure puzzles.

For atmosphere or story

GRIS emphasizes visual mood and platforming, while OXENFREE centers on dialogue and supernatural mystery. Check OXENFREE’s exact installment and access terms before choosing it.

For challenge or a calm break

Don’t Starve is the high-pressure survival option; Alto’s Odyssey is the low-complexity, short-session alternative. They sit at opposite ends of the list’s difficulty and structure.

Before you install or buy

  • Open the store listing for your device and country; availability, price, age rating and system requirements can differ.
  • Check whether you are buying a one-time premium game, entering a game with optional purchases, or relying on a subscription.
  • If offline play matters, distinguish the installed single-player core from multiplayer, cloud, account-validation or subscription features. Do not assume those connected features work without a connection.
  • For a controller, verify support for both the device and the individual game. A controller is more useful for movement and combat than for touch-first object puzzles.
  • For children, consult the local store’s age rating and content descriptors rather than relying on a general label such as “family-friendly.” Minecraft’s online play and optional purchases, and OXENFREE’s supernatural themes, merit particular attention.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
