Toca Cars was reported as a free Windows Phone Store release on June 8, 2015. That confirms the old announcement was real; it does not confirm that a working Windows Phone download is available today. Toca Boca still lists the game in its current catalog, but its current pages do not establish Windows Phone support.
What was Toca Cars?
Toca Cars was a children’s driving and creativity game, not a conventional racing game. Rather than chasing scores or progressing through a set of races, players could drive around a cartoon-like world, explore roads and off-road areas, and make up their own activities. Contemporary coverage described it as aimed at children ages 3–9; that was the game’s marketing description, not a current age-rating record.
The appeal was open-ended play: children could experiment with vehicles and scenery without a required route, winner, or failure condition. That makes the editor and the ability to roam more central than any race objective.

- Drive on roads or go off-road, explore, and use ramps and jumps.
- Play as either of two drivers.
- Arrange objects in an editor to shape a custom environment, including jumps, race setups, trees, animals, houses, and stoplights.
- Crash vehicles and use the game’s “Crash’n’Restore” feature to restore them.
Reports at launch also described a child-oriented interface and said the game had no in-app purchases. Those are claims about the 2015 release, not guarantees about any later edition, current commercial terms, privacy practices, or parental controls.

Was the Windows Phone version free?
Yes, according to contemporary release coverage: the Windows Phone version was reported as free when it appeared in June 2015. The same Italian report put the Android and iOS versions at about €3 at the time. That figure is historical and tied to the report’s market; it is not a current price or a global price comparison.
The release date, price and feature details were reported by technology publications, including Tom’s Hardware Italy, with contemporaneous coverage also from NPowerUser and MSPoweruser. This supports the historical release claim, but it is not a preserved Microsoft Store listing.

Can you still download Toca Cars for Windows Phone?
The available evidence does not verify a working Windows Phone Store download today. Toca Boca’s current Toca Boca Jr page and app catalog still list Toca Cars, which confirms that the title remains in the company’s catalog. Those pages do not establish that a Windows Phone package can still be obtained, that it supports a particular Windows Phone version or Lumia model, or that an old installation will still run.

If you want to check what Toca Boca officially offers now, start with its app catalog and follow the platform-specific listing for your device. Availability, platform support, and purchase conditions can vary by region and platform; Toca Boca’s terms of service provide the relevant current caveats. A current Toca Boca Jr title may suit someone looking for child-focused play, but it is not proof that the original Windows Phone version is obtainable or an exact substitute for its driving sandbox.
